But fuse in TOTK will repair weapons and shields partially and increase their dmg/block and durability
And add on effects depending on what is fused
And even change the weapons class
Like a stick is seen as a club but if you fuse a specific item it can become an axe or a pickaxe
There's also a joke going around of a "bonk wall"

It's really good. If you played original sin 2, you'll be amazed how much qol was added. But it is much harder due to dnd's limited spell slots and healing rules. Still nothing more satisfying than using a fireball on a group.

No. Same with original sin 2. I'd suggest starting with a custom character and being prepared to restart often when you realise you're characters aren't cutting it or a mechanic doesn't work the way you thought or you have awful rng. Really easy to get screwed over by bad rng.
