#Locking Character Slots
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Like I said in all other similar posts like these, most players donât actively play or master all five classes. Alts are usually used for storage or testing builds by the majority of the community.
On top of that, the devs regularly release free updates and seasonal content without charging extra, which is pretty uncommon nowadays. Buying a support pack is more about showing appreciation than unlocking the âfullâ game, youâre still going to get access to all future seasons and content without spending anything more.
Dude, we bought the game and it's early access. What are you talking about free updates? Why do we have to pay extra to play every class. It is a bad look.
Theyâve added maps, new characters, and weapons, with more planned for the Roadmap.
Many games require paying for characters or weapons.
I usually play all characters to level 20 in a season, so I understand your frustration.
However, most people use the additional slots as mules or storage, which defeats the purpose of constraining storage.
Yeah I don't agree with this second point either. It's a box price for an early access game. All the updates we are getting aren't free updates. They're the features that will take the game from early access to full release.
But I agree with your first point
I bought the god tier pack. I enjoy the game, but I don't agree with the way they went about it. Just give more cosmetics or something.
Free updates meaning additional content.
They will add more stuff to support packs eventually.
Early access means the game isn't finished. I don't consider more content free. We bought into it.
I think the deathmach they open manually is a nice touch. That's the only "extra" thing we get for free
But to call the devs greedy is wild
It's just not the best business model.
I don't understand why they chose to go that route.
I honestly think the devs were trying to keep the storage issues balanced by limiting the number of slots.
Iâd guess 85% of people arenât even playing 2 classes.
You donât think the current price for EA is reasonable? Adding additional content , maps, character classes every 3 months..
I think they should add a way to unlock the final slot through ingame progression. Maybe at the end of a season u get a char slot.
I have to agree it's not a good look that u can't create all characters with the base game
I think we misunderstand each other.
Chris already mentioned they were trying to change to another box model in the future.
We are literally paying to play a beta. No it's not free content updates. It's expected content updates
In a sense we are paying to help them develop their game.
Yes we are
While not a perfect model, Iâd prefer this over the Pay to win/free to play model, a season pass/subscription model, or the âcorporate doesnât get the vision-the game never gets releasedâ.
Oh yeah I agree. Box price is by far best. But lets also not kid ourselves. Early access is already very grey-zone. It's shipping of an unfinished product. We pay the price expecting the product to get finished one day. So I don't consider any updates during EA to be free nor generous.
The game is fully playable as it is.. You have got access to all the core content maps, characters, updates, without needing to pay anything extra beyond the initial buy-in. The only real restriction is the number of character slots, and while yeah, it would be nice to have one of each class by default, thatâs more of a bonus than a necessity.
Yeah agreed on this
I just don't consider any content updates during EA to be free. It's literally just them finishing the game so it can be ready for a full release. I think EA is a cancer to the entire industry. But notorious are one of few to do it the proper way at least.
Early Access is a catch-22. Several studios got shut down last week that the public has never seen anything more than a trailer.
20+ years ago, you could post shareware, and people would just pay to unlock the game or for additional levels.
AWS/Steam server costs for live service make that not feasible unfortunately.
And agreed, Notorious is doing it better than most by far.
I just came here to say one thing. I wish I could level up and play all the characters in this game, that I paid for.
What is stopping you? You can level up and play all the characters.
You just cant have them all unlocked at once..
If we are "testing" the game for release, then why wouldn't they let us have slots to level every character to max level?
I know they need money, but greedy tactics like these backfire on companies all the time.
Path of Exile is free to play and doesn't lock character slots. They do limit stash space, but it's a free game, so I am willing to buy stash space.
This game is limiting character slots and stash space, and it's pay to play.
Lesser things have gotten games review bombed into oblivion.
There is literally not anything stopping you from testing all characters. Also it takes like 1 whole day to level up from 1-20.
90% of the players barely play 3 characters decently, let alone all of them. If you think this game is P2P , oh boy..
My Steam Review:
"Game has excellent potential, but it's lacking in a few key areas. Game is extremely fun and challenging, but I can't recommend it at the full price of $50.
-
The game desperately needs better balancing. Right now Rogues constantly back-stab and reset, widdling players down (very frustrating as a warrior). Priests and Wizards can 2 shot. Warrior needs buffs all around, especially to mobility.
-
The game needs some type of skill or gear based match making (no entry over certain gear ilvl and/or character level into certain maps).
-
For some strange reason the developers have decided that charging for the 5th character slot (there are currently 5 characters) in a PAY to play, early access game is a good idea.
I got the game on sale for $15. For that price It's an excellent purchase for anyone. The main reason I am not recommending it, is because they've locked the 5th character slot, and stash space behind a $25 paywall; Giving this early access title a total full price of $50. I would give it a thumbs up if it weren't for this.
With all that said, most of the negative reviews don't revolve around the pricing, as mine does. Most of the negative reviews seem to be about matchmaking.
