This is the official thread for all things related to the upcoming raysfire Mario Kart World GeoGuessr stream!

This includes info on how to submit properly, and will also contain information on the format, such as rules, # of submissions, and more. The first few posts will be reserved to link necessary info and give an example of a submission so you know how to properly submit, but general discussion, questions, etc, will all allowed after the thread is unlocked.

#

HOW TO SUBMIT

In order to submit an image to the GeoGuessr event, you'll need to do so through this Google Form URL: https://forms.gle/L8UDAAEfb67ixuXa6

Each submission will require three images of varying levels of zoom, and a final image of your location on the World Map. For an example on this, look at the following post to see exactly what I'm looking for before you submit your hint images. I plan to capture these all on stream while I'm looking for them, so I'm looking for them to be submitted in a specific format.

If you upload memes and/or other things that aren't relevant to the challenge in this form, then your participation in other chat events will be potentially removed, so please don't abuse the form by making a bunch of joke submissions.

RULES

These are subject to change, but the current plan for how this event will run is as follows:

I'll start with the hardest version of each hint (max zoom), give myself 5 minutes to find the spot within that time, and if I'm unable to, I'll move onto the medium zoom hint. I'll spend another 5 minutes on that before moving to the lowest zoom / easiest hint, and then spending a final 5 minutes there before running out of time.

If I'm able to identify a spot with the most zoomed in view, I'll get 3 points, if I get it during the medium zoom, I'll get 2 points, and if I get it with the low zoom, I'll get 1 point. If I fail to find it at all, I'll get no points.

This scoring system is subject to change, but likely won't be too different from what I'm typing here. I'll likely have a stream goal for how many points I need to get before the stream ends, or a point goal I'm shooting for in X number of submissions or time.

FAQ

  • You are welcome to submit up to three different locations. If you submit more than that, I'll be using the three most recent submissions you make, so consider that when choosing your locations.

  • Submissiosn will be selected in a random order on stream to prevent any sort of bias towards early/late entries, but we'll make sure that only the three most recent submissions from someone are included when shuffling them for selection.

  • If you're curious on whether or not a submission will be allowed, you're welcome to ask, but I'll try to clarify specifically the types of submissions I'm looking for in the following post where I break down the image format I'm looking for, as well as the types of hints I'm looking for in your photos. I don't expect there'll be any issues here, but if there's any ambiguity I can try to clarify any specific points I'm looking for.

#

SUBMISSION FORMAT

In order to make this easy for me to capture on stream, I'm expecting all images to come from the Nintendo Switch 2 Capture Tool (or at the very least, match the resolution of those images). This means that every image needs to be 16:9 aspect ratio, and 1920x1080 resolution.

This is because I plan designating a specific part of my layout to displaying the hints as I look at them, so keeping the image sizes consistent helps to make it easy to swap between hints and submissions with very little issue.

As for what I'm looking for in each hint, the way I'm looking for hints to be done is in the Mario Kart World Screenshot mode using various zoom settings (L and R on the controller) with the HUD disabled (+ button) and no filters/frames added.

For the first shot, I'd like you to use the maximum zoom possible in the screenshot tool, for the second shot there's not a default middle option, but if you just pick somewhere between minimum and maximum zoom, that'd be fine, and for the final shot, I'd like you to zoom out entirely.

It's okay if the final image gives away the spot entirely, that's kind of the point; assuming I get to this stage I'd only be getting a single point anyways, and even then there's still a chance I might not know where it is. This is just so I don't get too caught up in any particular submission for too long.

Ideally I'd like the perspective to be the same for all three images, so the only change from shot to shot would be how zoomed in you are and no changes to angles, directions, etc.

However, with that in mind, you do not have to zoom in on the character you're playing as. This means that if you want to adjust the pan/angle/etc BEFORE taking the three hint shots, you're welcome to do so.

Once you have all three shots, I'd also ask that you open the World Map outside of screenshot mode, and take a final picture to show where your character is on the map so once I lock in a spot I can see how close I am to the actual location.

The thread will be unlocked in a second. Feel free to discuss the event, talk about your ideas for hints, etc, but please check the pinned messages in this thread for a link on where to submit and examples on the format I'm looking for. I don't expect to read this thread personally in an effort to not spoil anyone's submissions, but if you'd like to be extra careful when discussing your locations, I'd use spoiler tags to make sure.

I just found out that if you move 90 degrees with the right stick, move with the left stick away from the character, then adjust back with right stick, you can effectively zoom out more than you can normally

As a quick update, there have been 33 submissions so far, and due to swapping the schedule around to start this tomorrow, you still have til 6pm US central tomorrow to get an entry (or additional entries) in if you haven't already!

glad creek
#

Where is he getting 33 from?

#

Unless he's counting the easy, normal and hard images as it's own submission

crimson topaz
#

he got 33 submissions because there have been 33 submissions

fierce jackal
# glad creek Where is he getting 33 from?

In case you missed it, you have to use the Google form rays linked in his explanation in order to submit. Posting here in discord is not an actual submission, you'd have to do it there if I understand correctly

upper linden
#

Yeah, you need to submit through the Google form link. Just posting in Discord won't count, though I'm fine with you posting images here if you wanna discuss/share with people

glad creek
#

Oh, I'm stupid. Thanks for the clarification.

If anyone is confused, check the pinned messages in this thread for info on how to submit, I tried to run through it all in the first few posts there

can i ask a dumb question LOL

#

how do you get the images from your switch to your phone?

#

do you HAVE to have the switch app?

verbal pagoda

No app needed

glad creek

Oh, I didn't know about that

#

I should do that because the NS App kinda sucks

Just want someone to check out this image real quick. Would this be acceptable for stream? I took a picture of my screen while in handheld mode because taking a picture of the tv was AWFUL lol

huge untapped potential in ||the forest|| we should be looking into this

#

ive only submitted one so i will be getting one more

#

this is my go in ||the forest|| once again like my first one i feel its too difficult

#

this is my final submission, its the easiest one but its difficulty comes from actually getting here, unless rays just wins by figuring out where i am, in which case it will be a change of pace in difficulty

True, true. The ones I sent in are kinda hard, but all the way zoomed out has some nice landmarks

the idea was to misdirect w ||the chain|| a bit but i couldn't find a great angle for the medium zoom that didn't give the track away at least

@crisp peak I think all yours are perfect difficulty imo

The ||wiggler|| hard -> medium jump is kind of big but I really like the progression of everything else

i actually agree but i specifically wanted that one to be a funny reveal lol

||unidentified yellow blob -> friend :D||

my goal was for them to be attainable on medium (if you know the tracks) but not hard

crisp peak
#

ok hearing he got 62 of these definitely vindicates my decision to make mine a little easier lol

silent wren
#

this up until the 3rd hint should probably be fairly tricky

glad creek
#

I like how a lot of the submissions yesterday were pictures of dirt for the first hint, and my first hint was enough for him to find my location in less than 3 minutes. 💀
