I find the new Controls ( especially the Take A Photo Snapshot and Take A Video ) so frustrating and the new Control System confusing in general .

The funnest part is taking a Photo of a living moment in the metaverse which used to be a simple click of a nice button or T . Likewise the same for R to take a video or a simple click . Now all the Hotkeys are changed and you have to press Alt and if you can't remember the new Hotkeys or they match a system setting ( like ALT R a very common Nvidia shortcut by default ) then you are unable to use it them at all .

The hiding of controls is bizarre .

The UI of Spatial was 10/10 about 3 generations ago and about 8/10 the last time . The current one is a 3/10 at best . It is confusing , clunky , visually off and it completely buries and hides Spatial's Killer App - the ability to take quick pictures and videos of organic moments ' in real time ' . By creating this not nice looking UI you have also removed the Killer App and made it very confusing to navigate .

Love Spatial
Loved The Old UI ( WAS Best In The World , and now it has rendered Spatial almost unusable to the average person and disrupted the feeling 👎 )

The UI update really makes space for developpers to integrate their own UI and I found it so nice but I agree we lost a bit in visibility and so it may be a bit less clear/obvious to use now

Thank you for the feedback! (And apologies for the long delay in responding)
Our goal was, like @lone cloak stated, to allow creators more flexibility in adding in their own UI to their own experiences.

I'll definitely share your feedback with our design team!

@royal marlin Personally, if you want my long feedback (from an unexperienced UX guy ^^) of what I don't like and how I would see the menu:

  1. The "+" icon and the "3 Dots" icons are too similar, you have to hover to understand the difference

  2. The people button is a "set active" button but I would have expected it is a "toggle" button

  3. The controls menu still show a qwerty image and don't handle our poor azerty users 🙂 (like the tutorial on the first connection which is crucial)

  4. Translations? Yes I know...

  5. font size for space name is too big and/or the panel is too small

  6. main menu bar does not blur its background compared to other menu

  7. Inside the main panel (3 dots menu), there is no categories or groups for buttons/menu sharing the same theme:

  • "People" belongs to the main menu bar
  • "Reactions" belongs to the main menu bar
  • "Camera" belongs to "controls" menu and the control menu is not up to date with the 3 camera options
  • Category 1: "Communication"
  • (des)activate microphone + don't use a crossed out icon but green/red color to keep visibility on the icon
  • (des)activate video + don't use a crossed out icon but green/red color to keep visibility on the icon
  • Category 2: "Tools"
  • Share screen
  • remove the sub menu of the "filming tools" and place the three options here
  • Category 3: "Settings"
  • "video"
  • "audio"
  • "VR"
  • "controls"
  • misc
  • Category 4: no name, just a footer with "help" and "leave"

But we already building spaces using all the free space for the UI you made and that's nice !

And a question, did you use a custom shader to blur the background of your menu? Could we have your menu component to avoid faking the same theme on our side? 🙂

Hi! no, I didn't search and I'm now implementing a custom UI with its own style 😉
