#need help with a budget build (will likely catch a bit)

Hey man, how’s it going?
Fpv Google’s v2 and I ordered the controller 2 but hasn’t shipped yet. I also have radio master pocket lets
Im trying to find a way to make it not a hassle on anyone. I found this but im not sure if it’ll run with the DJI fpv goggles v2.
DarwinFPV has always been committed to designing cost-effective fpv drone. We humbly accept feedback from pilots, solve the problems that pilots are most concerned about, and bring better products to everyone who uses it. Adhering to these beliefs, DarwinFPV brings BabyApe Ⅱ. BabyApe Ⅱ is a 3.5-inch small freestyle fpv
If there’s a better build for my setup which I’m sure there probably is, I’d love to hear it though.
are you planning on just using the Air Unit for the Goggles, and controller?
I will see if you can fit an Air Unit on that quad, I'm pretty sure you can
I could. But isn’t the run a link wasp compatible with fpv v2 I think it comes with elrs transmitter as well.
I’m really trying to keep the whole build under 400-450 if possible. Like I said I’m new so it’ll probably get crashed a bit.
Thank you
do you care if its under/over 250grams
if you live in the US, 250g means you need remote ID
I do live in the US and I have no idea what remote ID is. So preferably under.
If you can link me a guide on how to set up REMOTE ID wiring then it doesn’t matter
most people won't use remote ID since it's stupid
I'm sure if your build was like... 3 grams over no one will care
I'll look for a sub250g build
@spiral hull I'd recommend going through https://rotorbuilds.com/ for inspiration
I have a build list for a 5" quad available here https://www.vitroidfpv.com/builds/5inch-beginner, you can just ignore the analog hardware there
but if you want to stay sub250g, it's better to build/get something around 3-3.5" in size
I'll take a look man but Ill be honest, I dont know much of what I'm looking at. I am kinda confused on why I can find analog drones for $150, but when you click to add the air unit it jumps up with over a $200 price increase. Ive found multiple air units for like $150 so youd think the price would only go up by $150.
what stack would I need for dji?
any FC with at least one free UART will work with a DJI VTX
So I could do something like this, then just buy 03 air unit?
i think id only need 4 motors tho
ok I'll look again lol. Anything you'd recommend? And just out of curiosity, would the 03 be over kill with the fpv v2 goggles? They cant get the full 4k or w/e so couldnt a wasp or vista be a better/cheaper option?
Its on you list of premiums. so would this be ok?
no DJI goggles can actually get the 4k video, that's just recorded on the O3 unit itself
the list is a bit old for my liking, I'm currently working on getting it up to date. The frames there are still ok for analog, but for an O3 I'd get a frame that's specifically made with it in mind
like the GEPRC Mark5, iFlight Nazgul V3/Evoque, SpeedyBee Master 5 V2, AxisFlying Manta, etc...
alright cool ill look into those. So I should get the o3 instead of the RunCam Link Phoenix HD FPV? I was trying to save $100 but if its not worth it ill run with the o3
up to you to decide. Look at some reviews and footage comparisons
I did, they all look great compared to what im used to running. 😄
this is what I have in my carts. Would this be everything Id need to build it? Or am I missing something other than battery/props?
I think there's even an O3 specific version of the Mark5 which would be even better, I'd look into that
you'd also need a receiver for your Pocket
since I wouldn't recommend usign the DJI Radio
any recommendation on that? And thats the pro frame. Says its made to support caddx, air unit, and runcam
New Generation freestyle MARK5 frame. The MARK5 Frame is now officially released in three versions, which are the standard version, the pro version, and the pro upgrade kits version. The frame is compatible with DJI AIR UNIT, CADDX VISTA, and Analog VTX.
I looked but dont see another frame besides the standard in mark5
sweet thanks ill pick that up. Doing some googling on receivers now.
trying to get it all from the same site
i picked 1800kv motors, is that ok? and thats the only ELRS 2.4GHz receiver on their list.
none yet. Ive always used DJI drones before diving into fpv.
looks like i can run 3s-6s with that stax
Ill probablt get something like 1300-1500mah 6s batteries
freestyle
i use my dji mini 2 for crispy photos. Im just building this for something to have fun with
any recommendations on the c rating? And yeah Ive been playing around in a sim. its super fun even on a PC lol. Cant wait til I can record my kids on the 4wheeler and dirt bikes while doing fancy turns etc.
im wondering if these are any good
or is 130c too much?
Oh, and any idea if that receiver I listed earlier will work with my build?
1300mAh is a lot for freestyle
which batteries would you recommend? 1000mah?
lol alright
I just realized something. If im running the runcam instead of the o3 unit, would I still use the frame designed to be used with the o3 unit? Im not positive that theyre the same mounts.
yo @regal carbon you there? I need advice on a new stack so I can get all my parts from pyrodrone
heres what I got so far. since im getting caddx instead of air unit, I opted for a different frame. But Pyro doesnt carry the Stax you recommended
obviously Ill need and ELRS receiver as well, but Im not sure which one to grab.
Cap
So first of all buy a sim @spiral hull
That will make you not crash
this msg
Make sure you have at least 20 hours, you should be able to stay in the air then
Yeah ive put in another 4 hours already on liftoff today. taking a break for now to try and finish my build. I guess I can just buy the xilo and another random item from getfpv to hit the free shipping lol.
Pyro should have the Skystars and Diatone hardware
Also might aswell buy a iflight nazgul5 v3 O3 6s HD
Unless you really wanna make a drone yourself
Well I save around $200 building it myself and since I have DJI V2 goggles, it cant take full advantage of the O3 unit so I dont want to spend another $100 on o3 system when I can get the caddx for cheaper. Also, I plan to use my pocket ELRS instead of DJI controller 2. I thought about buying a BNF many times I can assure you. But this way is much cheaper, plus since I'm building it, I'll learn how to repair it as well.
thanks boss.
Yeah ik, 1 you can record better and 2 I didn’t know if you wanted to struggle with building or buy a bnf
Thats true, but I still dont think it justifies the additional cost. Maybe after I get confident enough that I wont wreck the drone I will, but as of now, I just want something budget that I wont get upset about if I total it. And as far as building goes, I have ADHD. Im a certified welder, P&T, certified for hydraulics, precision alignments, work on gear boxes/motors, have a small engine repair shop, build computers from scratch, etc. My point to all that is, learning new skills (like learning to build drones) is something that will really help me keep focus for a while until something else grabs my attention.
I switch hobbies faster than I switch my underpants. So ya know.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah yeah, didn’t know any if that
🥲
Yeah my wife gets irritated sometimes with my ability to jump into a new hobby, master it, then never touch it again
I get that 🤣
shouldve seen when I wanted to learn how to sharpen knives with a whetstone. I spent over $500 on diamond stones, whetstones, and belt sanders just so i could learn all the methods. not to mention the$2000+ in knives i bought. Havent touched any of that in months, but I can get a knife hair whittling sharp. 😂
Hahahaha
all the stuff just sits in a corner in office. If i sell it though, Ill end up just buying it all back smh.
I mean it’s a good skill to know
You have the knifes to cook
You might learn to be a masterchef as a next hobby
Im cajun baby, I was born a master chef.
on a real note, thanks for the advice. sorry for going wayyyyyy off topic. Happens a lot.
Np mate was a pleasure talking with you 😁
