If you ping an unit in map view you can see its position in FPS view. On the one side it is nice, on the other side it is very cheesy, because you can snipe that unit from long distance without seeing it. Maybe give map pings another color and reveal only x,y coordinates or just show them only on the map. E.g. see attached picture: A player pinged a colossus just righter after being spawned. He very probably didnt see that unit in line of sight but shot only to the pinged position:

Lowkey only way to see smaller units half the time
Ill use map pings to note down locations of stuff before i do bombing runs and other stuff

Railgun is turning its shot long range, but heavysmoke is a skilled player.

yes, that is in particular bad for aliens, and in particular good for railtanks
I was having all our air vehicles spawn killed when they got made on one map from over 1700 away because a railtank got onto a hill and could fire freely into our starting base

This seems more of a problem with Rail tank and Colo than map pinging. Aliens need Colo cause they can't depend on the rest of their roster. The rest of their roster has a much easier time not getting sniped at 2 km
I mean it is some kind of a wallhack if you can ping and see stuff mules away
I agree with Gromko, the pinging is not a problem, but the effective projectile range.

stuff like the rocket truck, and a number of vehichles have way too much range that let them snipe hqs in the player hands it gets a bit crazy
but the other issue is map design having such open sight lanes mainly on the smaller ones that let you fire across them

Or make them deal less damage to buildings
