imo I like that there aren't any hit markers
it's more of a taste thing than anything
It could be optional in the settings

Actually, bit of an odd observstion
As a marksman I can see and shoot 3km away
Now at some point in the last few updates I went from always being able to see targets (shockers, crabs, etc) to seeing them stand still and suddenly despawn when I shoot at extreme ranges (~1.5km?)
Anyhow, would be nice if I could still see them die. I dont want a hit marker. But would like to see them collapse and die as usual
I think no hitmarker is preferred, but we need a way to do range finding besides pinging
i would just prefer visual damage on a creatuure rather than a hit marker

im not saying gore just like damaged armor, vehicles smoking, and chitin falling off ailens.
What happens to an Alien when his Chitin falls off isn't much different to when a Human's skin falls off, and bones break.
Damaged armor and vehicles Smoking I agree with but damaged Flesh even if it's inhuman flesh is still gore.

yea it would be hard for aliens... i was just thinking of the armored crab on how it could work but flying ailens and some like the hunter wouldnt work well...
Hey guys, some form of hit markers will be added, sound and visual indication, but it will be possible to switch off as I myself have no love for it, but appreciate other do.

I am unsure what you mean - hit markers (or their likeness) will be on by default but possible to switch off in game options.

Oh right, yes that is tied to it. So switching off 'hit markers' = no noise, no visual indication
THe noise, btw, I mean being a special hit noise like you get in other games. Obviously the impact sound will always be present

Ok and it helps every single unit in the human arsenal.
I honestly hate it, but there have been enough requests for it that it does make sense to add it. Better to make the FPS gameplay attractive than limit the potential.
Barely. Honestly I find the hit markers unnecessary, as everything goes BOOM apart from infantry Rifle/SMG.

Client side most likely, though it can be server side confirmation too. Question is what is preferable:
- Get the hit indication if you hit, irrelevant of damage (helps know if you hit at all)
- Get the hit indication if you hit AND cause damage (helps know if you did damage)
irrelevant damage means you hit the model of the enemy right?
if so i think its fine
- means that it will play the hit indication regardless of whether it did any damage or not. So hitting a Siege Tank with an SMG bullet would cause the sound to play, and when I think about that, yeah, there needs to be a minimal damage limit, otherwise it would be fucking annoying
Can often shoot at things kilometers away with many more vehicles also firing, can be hard to see at distance too.
In a controlled environment yes hits are generally easy to spot but the battlefield is anything but a controlled environment.

Will there be a max range/range cap on the hit marker? In other words, if Im taking shots past the render distance of the projectile will the hit marker even activate?

At the ranges I use the sniper I regularly lose sight of the projectile. Cant even see pop of the shot making impact. Will the render distance of the pop increase or remain the same?

How will hit marker work for explosions? If I'm in a Rocket Truck, Colossus, or Pulse Truck I'm dealing AOE damage even when I don't make a direct hit. AOE doesn't have to do a direct hit to do damage obviously, so same hit mark or a different one?

Will there be a kill indicator in addition to the hit indicator? For cases where your shot doesn't just hit the target but kills it.

Not a question, just acknowledging all potential answers are TBD and subject to revision based on development needs.
Max range on hit marker vs Colossus the same as max range on hit marker vs Scorpion?
Max range on Hit Marker could indicate the need to angle up to adjust for bullet Drop, should it be the same for a building as a Hovertank.
Honeslty not sure about these questions as I have not designed it yet. I will do it based on what feels right, and we can iterate from there 🙂
haptic feedback is just something that is very pleasureable in shooter games no doubt and fits with silica greatly
I firmly believe its why cod is so successful
hitmakers would do great and caters to a large market of people who enjoy that feedback in itself
cod is a self fulfilling prophesy of success. it is made by a big tripple A studio and is successful so people pick it up because of its success. nobody cares about the quality of a cod game because its always marketed out the whazoo and everyone else is playing it. at least thats my interprestation as someone who is not a cod fan
for years cod was just a reskinned quake lawl but yeah for sure
I played a lot of cod and not as much anymore since it turned very money grabby and boring
but they did well with polishing a lot of the feedback mechanics in a shooter game

At maximum I can do a similar sound, not copy obviously
i do not think the cod hit sound would fit
I think unity engine has some built in hit maker systems already
might have to check and see what might could work it just has to be simple but nice
