Todays horrible idea:

Teleportation is a massive advancement and the invention that led to all of the events on baltarus.

We have the technology to teleport humans, hover bikes, and even massive freighters. So it stands to reason that we should be able to teleport certain tanks and military equipment short distances.

I’d imagine commanders would first have to build a specified structure, which medium to small size tanks could board and be teleported to another paired structure. It could have a relatively short teleportation range (1000-1500 meters) as well as a hefty cooldown time, or even a resource fee per use.

If balanced correctly I think this could be a balanced and interesting use of the current teleportation technology which is surprisingly under used in silica military vehicles and structures

#

Not related to this idea, but an aircraft or grounded vehicle that could teleport short distances (would probably be an end game extremely expensive unit, more so than the bomber) with a long cooldown could be sick as well.

Both of these sound like solid additions to the game for diversifying army comp, base building, and adding a new play style for human fps players.

It would be cool if the dev agreed.

Big Teleport that does vehicles I think would work Well for Sol gives them greater mobility helping them feel like they have the technological edge.

If it's just a teleport from one teleporter to the next, it doesn't need a fee or any cooldown to use. But there should be a cooldown on the unit itself, like the infantry cooldown. And why is it only 1,000 meters? If you have to set up two buildings, why does it even have a range limit? You need to place it in a base you already own, so the range seems pointless.

How about instead of an Teleporter an Transport-Chopper so enemys are able to counter by destroying the Air vehicle to destroy the cargo

by the time you built the teleport stuff, you can build a second heavy vehicle factory ??

This would be so you don’t have to build your vehicle factories on or near the front lines, you could have them somewhere safer. Or if you have old un-used vehicle factories that are far away from the action you could still produce and transport tanks to the front lines quickly.

Dram has also mentioned he wants to change how humans build their bases, so depending on how that goes this idea could be better or worse

Would help the Humans feel Less Samey

I agree, I feel like it would help differentiate the different advancements of technology between the two human factions. Would still love to see the massive air carriers that have been mentioned for centauri if this is ever implemented

Well, the way I try to imagine new features is:

  • How would they look like?
  • How would they work? One sided, 2 sided?
  • How would the player select which gate to teleport to?
  • Is there a limit in size?
  • Is there a limit in number of TP gates?
  • Is AI supposed to use it or just for FPS players? If only for FPS, would the RTS AI even build them?
  • How much health should the structure have?
  • How expensive should it be?
  • Would SOL and Centauri have them? Or just for one of them? If only one of them has it, would the other team have an equivalent of some sort?

I also try to imagine the worst case scenario, which I would say, a TP entry point just outside an Ultra Heavy Factory and as soon as a Siege tank comes out, send it through the gate to the front line.

I do like the idea, don't get me wrong, as it would help with terrain traversing. But yea...

How would they look like?
big high tech pad, can be built on the side of an outpost which Sol Uniquely will be able to place almost anywhere on the map possibly through an engineer Vehicle or Orbital drop to make it harder to hide depending on balance, keep in mind i am very much against the idea of building multiple HQs to increase build area as i am certain it may be abusable, even if it is added i would rather it be exclusive to Centauri who have far more weaknesses than their counterparts.
How would they work? One sided, 2 sided?
Teleportation is a Strength that Makes Sol Stand out, to be balanced would again have there be a need to designate a destination Teleporter that could be applied to their outposts, although this is an expensive upgrade for that outpost.
How would the player select which gate to teleport to?
the current system has to be reworked, i assume you will see destination spots on a map.
Is there a limit in size?
about Siege tank
Is there a limit in number of TP gates?
they are expensive and glow in the dark (could see this glow for a km or more, definitely designed as a weakness), again this is being used in lieu of a second HQ it is supposed to be very strong and very expensive. if too strong i might suggest adding/increasing cooldowns on use but not limiting the number.
Is AI supposed to use it or just for FPS players? If only for FPS, would the RTS AI even build them?
Ideally AI could use it for the purposes of Pathfinding. requiring a destination teleport solves quite a few potential issues.
How much health should the structure have?
roughly 60k, double that of an outpost.
Would SOL and Centauri have them? Or just for one of them? If only one of them has it, would the other team have an equivalent of some sort?
Only Sol as explained before Centauri will rely on the Heavy lifter and larger Satellite bases. Their Lifter is cheaper and more reliable while being more vulnerable.

i need to do a thread about sol/centauri base design

I imagine teleporting large vehicles would also be very visually intense, possible with loud sound per teleport as well.

The initial idea was that you would pair the two structures together and could teleport either way, you could pair them via wich are built in what order, so for example the first built and second built would be a pair, and then 3 and 4 would be another pair. This could be integrated into the outposts too

Another option is to have each tank choose where they want to teleport to but eh

Third way would be commander would have a UI attached to the building and could select wich to pair to that one directly

Regardless of where the building is it would be the primary target for opposing forces, destroying it means that no more units can quickly reinforce the existing ones
