#What's all this then?

Oh good, you started using it, we just got the notification on the MD guild too.
Looks like a much more efficient way of isolating support requests into their own threads. Except it's not the threads feature, which sucks
This is the forum feature yeah?
Tbh, threads are kind of a pain cuz you have to add yourself to them to get notifications, I got this notification when I wasn't even looking at the guild.
It was way too easy for threads to be hidden even from me on guilds I own.
The only thing I don't like about it is the fan it adds the thread to the channel list when you are following it. And it will auto-follow anything you type in, so that makes the channel list grow huge.
okaaaay basic support faq is posted
yeah but that's most likely because you were in the channel when I posted it
also it says 1 new post at the bottom
I saw the "1 new post" as well.
I'd expect it to appear in the list though
it does
Only if you click the 1 new Post
I have send perms in that FAQ
It would be better if new posts just appeared
They might fix that as time goes on.
there are notifications for new posts, even when you're not in the channel. And it should update when you leave and rejoin the channel
They meant it would be nice if the new forums just added to the list without pushing "1 new post" iirc.
yeah but I don't see it as a big issue. It's an inconvenience for sure but not a big issue as there's plenty of indicators that there's a new post
Yeah, you shouldn't need to click it or refresh it
I'm not losing sleep over it, I'm just pointing out something I would improve ๐คฃ
Actually another issue is the FAQ isn't pinned at the top. My first post is still above it
they probably decided to do this so you could find threads more easily in very active servers :P
yeah you need to pin it ๐
right click
oh yeah
another thing we should maybe turn on is "require people to select tags when posting"
I specifically chose not to do that, because sometimes people might have something to say that doesn't fit a specific category, and then you get bad data because they are picking the "closest match" which isn't relevant
"other"
yeah I was just wondering about a "General Enquiry" one
@fathom wharf Here's that testing forum I mentioned in the other guild.
Already at 35 messages lol
In US English, you should always use inquiry and inquire, regardless of the formality of the investigation. In British English, inquiry and inquire are used to describe formal/official investigations and lines of questioning, whereas enquire and enquiry are used in less formal investigations.
Americans butchered the English language ๐คฃ
Fancier threads
So these aren't those crappy ones that disappear after like 24 hours then?
#LazyAF
These disappear too, but you can set it from anything between 24hrs and 1 week
I haven't looked at the backend yet.
aaah see that's the thing, I'm a data hoarder and I love having access to discord chats going back to the beginning of the server. I worry that stuff in these time-limit threads will just vanish forever
The threads just archive and managers can un-archive them.
I'm the same, although in this instance I think for standalone support requests it's a nice way of keeping everything organised
aaah ok, that's not so bad then
yeah for sure. Issue - resolution - close
I see that react @proud garden
behave LMFAO
tbf I think we only have 1 Week because we're a tier 3 server
although it doesn't have the nitro logo behind it
maybe discord did something without a paywall?
I've been using threads on my guild as well for "transactional" messages for my store features.
What is all this then?
So far it seems like advanced threads.
That is how I would describe them.
Yup. But it might be useful for some things.
No it's vastly different! They're posts! Those definitely aren't just threads. They have posts all over them! lol
I would describe it as... what threads should have been ๐
I agree
Awww, you get a lil OP badge for being the one to create this "channel"

lol thanks giphy

There is when you open the forum full size.
You just click the forum itself on the left instead of the root of the tree.
Then you get a regular channel layout.

Hiya Scotty
fancyness
Indeed.
Patreon
Like threads, anyone can read without joining
But sending a message will add you to it
Or "following," as its apparently called for forums
Does that mean we don't get notifications for new posts, and/or pings if we get tagged in new posts we haven't seen yet?
yes and no
you won't get notifications for them (so you aren't spammed with stuff you probably don't need), but you will see how many new posts there are
Notification settings on a forums channel also has a new option for "new posts created," off by default
That's kind of annoying if someone brings up a support issue and we want to draw someone else's attention to it.
Say we want to ping Dan or Claire to draw them into the topic.
Ah, so pings do work even if you're not following the post; good.
Oh great, this combines all the downsides of forums with all the downsides of chat! (not your fault, this is a very oddly designed feature in discord)
I imagine it's intended for sync with external forums like reddit. I agree, in isolation this is duplication of threads ๐

Yes it started chucking it down while I was shooting, but no natural phenomenon is powerful enough to stop me speaking truth to power. Don't let the man tell you that a bin bag is an uns...
Did you check the date of that comment? ๐
