Do some research, try to find ideas and then see if it's realistic for you. I definitely encourage you to go for it. It's a great learning experience.

Aren’t most hackathons done in teams? That’s how my school did them

I don't know if I would say most. Often people team up, yes, but this is team != asking on discord

I would say don’t overshoot and make something fun and potentially useful to yourself. Most hackathons I’ve been to, we tried to make something too overblown and failed/gave up. Performed best when we just made something for fun
