Subtle Overlays

So unlike a lot of other overlays, I want to keep things as simple as possible, but still give enough information to help make a decision.

These two overlays add a star rating to shows and movies, and a continuing icon to shows, add to a country age rating image and that's my subtle look for posters.

Each has a small amount of choice to tweak how it looks for preference (see the respective readme files, where the attached screenshots have a bit more context).

For the UK centric config I use:

@wind meteor - if you have something in "Continue Watching" that has a progress bar, does that overlap the star rating?

nope, normal desktop / browser plex both look identical for me

Hmmm. Mobile Plex still had the progress bar where the stars would be. Will need to check my browser later too.

hrm, that's something i haven't checked - but you can put it at the top and it won't overlap that... although more poster titles are towards the top (which also gets annoying for other overlays 😕 )

the old iPad app puts the bar even lower - underneath the poster, i'll try to check some others later too lol

Man, why isn't that the default. Make so much more sense.
Checked my browser, can confirm progress bar is at the bottom. But Android TV and Android Mobile apps both have it at the star level. Hopefully they roll out updates for those soon, having it at the bottom everywhere would be nice!

Nice, I enjoy the simplicity! Mine are similarly simple but the information is less useful to the masses.

it's finding that balance of "i find it useful" and "damn, 10% of the movie posters are covering some of the name" 😅

Haha for sure! I think you did great. I have only been setting mine up in a small test library so far, so unsure how many will have the title issue, but I did end up making my details super tiny because of that...

I am pretty much the only one that uses it though, so that's alright.

That's what mine looks like (the lower and upper left icons don't always appear, this just happens to be the one movie in the test library that has it all).

yeah - i did used to have a lot more on them, but decided that the majority was unimportant and it just led to long update times - i'm considering adding the runtime back as it's not too bad - the mediastinger just makes the whole thing take so much longer for the few films that actually have something ... 😦

I was wondering about the mediastinger, because that could be useful as well. But if it takes a tonne more time then I am not too phased.

When I finally rip all my content it will be fairly big, although not more than 1500 movies probably. I don't know what is considered large with torrents available and stuff (for having just physical media I felt like I did alright haha).

But I hear you! Definitely depends on an individual's content.

everyone has different needs and wants - one of my mates puts close to a 3 month time limit on most things he adds, so never going to get a big library, another is planning to get a clone of mine when he moves house - it's all relative lol

i like this look. Only downside is i have noticed no movie gets a 4 1/2 or a 5 star rating because the offsets are a bit to high for them

i feel i have a couple... checking!

so using audience rating, i have 3x 5 star, and 140x 4.5 star - so they're there lol - not touched in a while but i vaguely remember that your own ratings are the highest priority (but i almost never rate anything!)

...not sure i know that word... 😇 - the important stuff is backed up on separate drives and the most important is on the cloud - sadly cost means a full backup doesn't exist 🙁

got a couple of friends that are in the process of getting themselves setup so they can have syncthing based remote backups (ie, their own local copies) - but as of yet that's only a small subset

i have a 160tb server and i'm the same. i dread backups. I'd almost rather redownload all of it again lol. I do use drivepool scanner which every 60 days scans all the sectors so maybe i might get a heads up on one failing.
