Is there a simple way to point to a local image file to change the default collection posters? Ex: The posters for the various universe collections, IMDb top250, etc.

Including meta.log from the beginning is a huge help. Type !logs for more information.

as in using the assets?

#

you can either use assets, or if it's just a few collections you want to use, then you can set the poster with - file_poster_<<key>>: template_variables for each collection / default

I'm not familiar with the assets outside of knowing it's a directory to store things. Also not familiar with the use of key. I was hoping there was just a template variable that lets you specify - file_poster: config/poster/poster.png or something. I think the wiki shows a URL option but I have local files.

However, I changed the poster within Plex and re-ran Kometa, and that didn't appear to wipe out the poster. So I guess that's the easiest option.

Thank you! I understand now and just tested this successfully. I'm about to attempt the same for the universe and franchises, as I assume it behaves the same. Follow up question - I have posters in config/posters. Should I be using the assets folder / is there a benefit to that?

Depends on what you call a benefit.

#

You can use assets in the sense that you always know what your poster will be. If you wanna change posters, it’s just as easy as putting a new file in the folder

But does the assets folder have a special native function compared to throwing poster files in any other folder?

It's another way to do that. "Star Wars always gets this poster here".
