#PMM, and locked Plex Fields

In Plex, if I click on the edit icon for a movie, go to tags, I see the Collections field is locked.

is PMM doing this? or is this from something else?

I recently found a couple of movies not showing up in the proper collection because this had more than 1 entry, and it was locked. I am trying to sort out the cause. PMM had added both collection names.

Generally, when PMM sets a value it locks the field.

OK... trying to get my head around this. I have a collectionless YML that creates a collectionless collection for all movies not in a certain set of collections. (confusing right). they idea is that these movies will show up even if they are in the excluded collection.

desired action is if movie is in a normal collection, it only shows up in the collection. If movies is in an excluded collection, then it will show up as normal. If it is in an excluded collection AND in a regular collection, it should only show up in the collections.

Hoewver, when I added 2 of the movies to a new collection, it did it, but also left them in the collectionless collection. Only when I deleted the collectionless collection from the collection field in Plex, did they show up only in the new collection

Sorry if this is confusing.
I think you help me set this up last year 🙂

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please elaborate.

I recently noticed a new Plex collection that was NOT auto created when I added a new movie that was part of a 2 movie collection. Normally, Plex would create the collection when adding the movie and then it would show in the Movie details. Which lets me know it is part of a series of movies.

After further investigation, I realized the issue. I utilize PMM to build collections based on actors, which one of them starred i...

I honestly don't understand the point of this sort of setup so don't give it a lot of thought.

i'm with carrot on this one

so the issue:
If the field is unlocked then a simple metadata refresh will remove all the collection tags.
If its locked plex wont automatically fill in the collection tags they pull.

the only actual solution i have for this is to stop letting plex update your collections at all. Let pmm run dynamic collections based on tmdb

#

which can be as simple as

libraries:
  Movies:
    collection_files:
      - pmm: franchise
white dagger
#

Actually, my preference is similar I think:

  1. Plex never updates collections
  2. Only PMM updates collections
  3. I create the collections in my YML files.

This way I can tweak collections as desired (Sometime I add similar movies, for example Alex Cross collection from TMDB has 2 movies. There is also another Alex Cross movie that is not in that collection, so I add that to the collection (I use a template for creating collections that calls TMDB)

And thanks for your help!!

So... would it be like:

Before

libraries:
  All Movies:
    metadata_path:
    - folder: config/movies
    - pmm: basic
      template_variables:
        collection_more: hide_items
        collection_order: alpha
        in_the_last_released: 360

After

libraries:
  All Movies:
    collection_files: ## <--- added
    metadata_path:
    - folder: config/movies
    - pmm: basic
     template_variables:
       collection_more: hide_items
       collection_order: alpha
        in_the_last_released: 360

Does that turn off plex collections?

acoustic relic
#

what is collection_more?

#

you would need to turn off plex collections, in the plex ui

white dagger
#

hmm... where?

north aspen
#

You misspelt collection_mode

mint notch
north aspen
#

In the first yaml code

#

You wrote collection_more

acoustic relic

under advanced, where it says "Minimum Automatic Collection Size"

mint notch

This disables Plex creating collections.

All we can react to is what you post here. We have no way of knowing if you know something is broken.

#

There is also at least one indentation error there. Should we point that out or assume you recognize it but chose to keep it in there for some reason?

white dagger

and OK on plex creating collelctions... LOL, I am using XBMCnfoMoviesImporter agent. It does not have that option.

mint notch
#

Ah, and we would have known that how?

acoustic relic
#

don't even see that as an option on mine, so must be some weird ass plex install

white dagger
#

Heh.... Sorry not included in info... Not sure sometimes what is relevant.

acoustic relic

well, we aren't mind readers

XMBC is an old old agent someone wrote. I use TineMediaManager to configure all of the movies I import, it creates an NFO file and poster and background files

acoustic relic
#

oh my b

white dagger
#

When you scan the movie, it imports the NFO and poster/background instead so searchign gond know where on the internet

*god knows where

I wouldn't be surprised if using that oddball agent causes some issues with PMM at some point.

The assumption is that you are using standard stuff, so if you're using some oddball thing it's best to say so rather than wasting a lot of time chasing stuff that doesn't apply.

white dagger
#

It allows full control of what is added to plex. I have quite a few movies that dont show up in TMDB... I can create my own settings, plot, etc

#

I don't think it is causing issues... I could be wrong. If I use the regular agent, my experience is it start changing stuff for movies it does not understand. Maybe that has improved.....

#

the issue I am having is probably minor.... It looks like things are working as designed. so there may not be a fix, and if I change things (like adding a couple of movies to a collection that previously were not), then I will just have to go in an delete the 'collectionless' collection

#

as always... thanks for the help... I learn a bit more each time I am here.

mint notch
#

And I have no reason to believe it is; however, there is no testing against it so it is something you should keep in mind generally.

white dagger
#

Will do....

#

Just as an aside.... I mentioned my issue with the Plex agents... Do they still muck up things?

I ran into issues with the Plex agents misidentifying things, and at times changing things (art, text) for movies that were already disvovered. Also had a couple of instances where I had to rebuild my server and rediscover (I am a lot better with backups now) and found that everything I had curated was now messed up. the XMBC agent means that even if my plex metadata is hosed, I can rebuild it back from scratch exactly the same way it was

mint notch
#

I've not seen either of those issues using the plex agents.

acoustic relic
white dagger
#

I will look at creating a library of my problem children and test it out.... the other side of this is for the stuff Plex cant find... that takes a lot of work to add using plex (custom movie metadata). TMM stores this separatly...

As far as I know, I am following standards 100% in naming.

#

I have some movies that are not in TMDB

#

a few dozen...

mint notch
#

I'm just responding to this:

I ran into issues with the Plex agents misidentifying things, and at times changing things (art, text) for movies that were already disvovered.

With an ID in the name/path, I've not seen any misidentification. I've never seen Plex change a poster or a summary for something all on its own.

white dagger
#

I have some very old Scifi, and a number of foreien films that Plex has (at least in the past) had troible identifying... when I look at tmdb, they are not there.

#

I would end up with wierd results.

#

OK... I ran a test.

I will need to look closely at the results... It looks like it got my foreign films OK in a spot check.

As expected, and of my custom stuff, as there is no TMDB entry, so all of the description info is blank as expected.
