If someone shoots at you and is just shit the game won't register it as self defence coz they did such a pitiful amount of damage
If they only land a few shots before you shoot back, the game doesn't care

It's so that in a "group fight" (like around a station for example when dealing with a hostile player), a few stray shots hitting another player doesn't instantly flag you as hostile to everyone around you

So if they only land 1 or 2 shots before you open fire back and spray them down, the game considers you the aggressor coz you were the first to pass the damage threshold

i only got onto this game today cause of the industrial mining and salvage missions from the ptu. i have now uninstalled the game. 5 years of doing the mining loop with zero value to it and the QOL adjustments are miniscule and far too late, the content of contracts and order size is all thats been wanted for the last 10 years. just release them and fix them as you go. stop dangling something thats been shelved and dusted off how ever many times just be reshelved for absolutly no reason.
