My advice to that is to take screenshots in 4k and then downsize it to fullHD. It will still have the crispness and all the fine lines of the higher resolution but with much smaller size. I use Windows power toys to quickly switch between resolutions

Yeah I've been using Lightroom till now but cancelled the sub while I was on SC hiatus

I think a one time pay for something that has all the pretty basic things I use would work better for me at least

I don't do anything advanced anyway, not yet at least, and I think it's pretty high tier even if it lacks some of the stuff Adobe brings, simply because they're a leading company for stuff like this

The only difference between an average screenshot and a good one is lighting which you'll find out yourself 😄

Lighting and composition are the two things that make or break a photo in most cases

I think this is a decent example, Matt's stuff I think is generally better at playing around with light, especially with focus on the characters (I prefer environmental or ship shots) but it follows the rule of thirds and accent lighting brings out some of the finer and more shiny details of the helmet/ undersuit

And then an example for a ship, in this case, the Antares

Getting a good colour palette for a shot can really help accentuate a shot too, if the colour is good then it can really seem like a much more professional shoot

This is one of Matt's, but it shows how good lighting can help the face textures really shine

@sweet girder you'll really see such a difference with 4k screenshots. I play on fullHD too, but take shots on 2k. Its hugely better, already. 4k is another level, but my vga can't reach it

Composition and lighting

Even with stock graphic settings and no ReShade (aside from using to save as png) you can get solid pictures

Merc career fits me the best, but I wanted something more closely aligned with my favorite corporation. So I've been mostly spending my time collecting Crusader armor from bunkers while ranking up my rep.

The game I came from, Elite Dangerous, has a nice exploration aspect, and when you discover new systems/planets, you get your name attached to them. Really makes for a rewarding experience.

But SC is pretty unique with how we can go from ground to ship all seamlessly.

That last sentence is one of the reasons I picked up SC. When they put ground content into Elite, they just kinda taped it onto the main game rather than truly integrate the two parts. Sometimes it feels like two totally separate games.

The little things in SC like being able to walk up to my Avenger, pop down a ladder and actually climb into my ship seem like small details, but it creates such a... full experience in my opinion.

There's a large crowd in the Elite community asking for ship interiors. I never really understood why it was something people wanted so badly until I played SC. Now I get it! It adds extra time doing simple things, but it feels very real.

Exactly! It's very immersive for me, it's small details but I am a roleplayer, and I am all for that. When I am in a ship, I want to feel the outside world around, being it idyllic, harsh or just the void of space.

I want to know that if I open the sas, there is that outside and not a loading screen.

And ship interior allow us to live in the ship, to feel the ship entirely, what it offer, what it is like.

I think one of the most impressive things for me about ship interiors and how the realism of this game works is that when your ship goes dead, you lose all your stuff... but unlike Elite, you have the opportunity to go back and get all your stuff if you're determined enough.

My second night of playing, I unexpectedly dropped out of quantum travel halfway through my journey and immediately smacked into some wreckage, leading to my ship exploding and ejection (of course, I forgot to put my helmet back on after eating an apple, so you can imagine how well that went...). I was tempted to log for the evening, but decided I wanted to get my gear back. After a few quick Google searches on how to find my death spot (required using the "target a planet and then shut off your engines when you get close" trick), I then spent the next hour floating around in space, pulling my gear out of my destroyed ship's inventory to put in my fresh Avenger. It was very tricky (the game tossed me around every time I tried to enter my ship, forcing me to very carefully nudge boxes into the cargo hold, then quick shut the ramp before they glitched out, then enter through the cockpit to put the boxes in my inventory), and often times trial and error.

But honestly? For all the hastle, it was an incredible experience that I could even do something like that and very rewarding to pull it off. Certainly made me feel like buying the game was worth the money.

Indeed, the alpha is buggy (as we could expect from a alpha) but there si a experience, a immersion, that is very rarely found in others games.

For me, simply enjoying a coffee while my ship travel in quantum is already that. To put it in a particular spot too.

I loved seeing what everyone came up with, I spent so much time reading. The RPers always had the best and most detailed ones, of course. It's a shame that the RP community in that game was as much of a mess as it was toward the end...

Funny that you were S31, my backstory was on the other side, she was framed as a traitor to the Federation early in her career after accidentally discovering something she wasn't supposed to. S31 was the main antagonist of the story (one of my friends characters was a S31 operative) in trying to make her... go away... she ended up taking residence in the Delta Quadrant with her crew and restarting life there.

I have yet to figure out the ship outfitting part of the game yet. Should be fine (I did come from Elite, after all) but I've been literally only been doing two things since I joined: shopping for outfits/armor and running bunkers for Crusader armor.

Both are good! I rarely outfit my ships but sometimes it can be useful. But with the Avenger you're absolutely good for the game!

It's small enough for exploring some tight place and caves too.

I love my Avenger. A friend recommended paying a bit extra when buying the game to get it as the starter ship, and they were spot on. It can do everything I ask it to, and the cockpit entry is extremely convenient.

Cleaned up the rough edges by adding some AA, darkened the blacks and made the sun a bit warmer, then sharpened up the edges a bit and added a sprinkle of noise to soften the edges a little

Now there are two ways to go about getting the game to a higher res

You can either head ingame (if it's set to fullscreen) and you should now see options that take your resolution up to whatever 4x yours is

Or you can go into "Change Resolution" in the control panel and change it that way

I run the game in borderless so that's how I do it

You lose a bit of quality in jpg

For the best post editing and then having a smaller file size after, you can capture in png, edit, and then export in jpg

A proper jpg isn't too lossy most of the time

But I tend to swear by png
