I have had a really rough time the past week or so trying to do delivery missions. 9/10 times I can't complete the quest for one reason or another. Is there anything I can be doing (other than not doing the contracts) to alleviate that happening so much or are those quests essentially broken?

You can mix a lot of game modes together for when things don't work. Carrying cargo with box missions means that you still make a profit even if your mission glitches. And running cargo with box missions is a great way to learn who buys and sells what and for how much.

In my experiance the current cargo delivery missions are kinda hit or miss right now. I took4 jobs last night with a win/lose/lose/win sequence 😦

If you still wanna do some hauling, there are pretty stable cargo routes out there that even smaller ships can do for some decent profit

I REALLY want to get the Raft over the Freelance Max but I just can't justify not having the extra 24 cargo space.. it basically makes it so you can do 4 full prospector loads at a time instead of 3 and 25% increase in productivity just can't be ignored... sigh..

Depends, you can make about 300k a trip mining Hadonite with the cutty black and ROC but i's not quite as easy and in my opinion more buggy. Where as with the prospector you can make around 244k per run, but you have to wait 8-48 hours to process the goods (depending on what method you choose) and then have a delivery vehicle to actually sell the refined materials. So really it depends on what you will find more fun and have a better time doing I guess. I personally am enjoying the prospector method.

Some people got lucky and their items were duped with them. Others lost money randomly to a bug that's still happening with AUEC.

I had to do 3 character resets at that time as my AUEC kept coming down and it would reset afterwards to the normal amount. Unfortunately I left on vacay just before invictus and came back afterwards 7mil poorer. I did a char reset at that point and my cash has been stable at least since then.

It can also be nice to drop down from OM1 marker since daylight always, but finding a direction/point to go is reccomended

and yes, as a ROC miner, you want to go 150-200 m/s and anything that pops up under 3000 is ROC minable. If it first pops up under 1000, ignore it - it's a hand-minable

Not stupid, when you setup a refinery order (Dinyx or Ferron) it will empty the Prospector and start the job. PLEASE NOTE that the Prospector can not carry anything but raw ore. Once you have refined your ore, you will need a cargo ship (Cutlass Black or larger) to carry your refined ore to market at the TDD

I used to do the same thing before went and bought the C2 outright (irl), I would begin by renting for 3 days, run cargo until the rental expires, measure my profits. Each time I would earn waaay mroe than the rental costs, so the next one i would move up a rental period. 1 day became 3, 3 became 7 and 7 became 30

Mining and bounties are generally still the fastest ways to make money. Cargo is unreliable this patch due to restock times and the potential to lose cargo due to crashes/30ks

Please note, there is a bug that is "stealing" ore straight out of the Prospector, leaving your ship with nothing but dust when you get the refinery. Along with this and all the other issues, I personally will be holding off any more mining until 3.17.2 drops. Bug has taken close to half a million aUEC from me, so no more donations to the void.

I currently have the Freelancer starter pack which has 66 SCU, and since Laranite is the most (legal) profitable commodity to trade, this is all I have been doing over the past 2 days. But because I am never able to buy a full load of cargo due to other players doing so before me, the highest profit I am making is about 30k.. I know the most common advice is to trade at more odd times of day where other players are less likely to be on, but seeing as I don't want to play Star Citizen at midnight this doesn't really work out for me.

Are there any other (legal) solutions to increasing my profit?

Robust trade routes utilize multiple stops/commodities since it's likely you won't be able to offload all your cargo at one stop sometimes

What this means is that anything you have in game, that's not connected to your account via pledges, will get reset at that time. Ships, gear, credits, all of it. This is normal for the alpha, just set expectations accordingly so you're mining for the joy of mining, since those creds gon get reset at that time.

I do wonder if any non-quantanium materials mined by the Odyssey while harvesting quantanium will go to the cargo hold or just ignored. Would make a nice neat little gameplay loop if you could move it from the cargo bay into the docked expanse and not waste those raw materials, or even dump excess quantanium to he refined by the Expanse.

having run both (my friend has the cutty and I have the max) while it is possible to duo mine in a cutty it is a tight squeeze compared to doing it in a max

the cutty is a little thinner and the ramp is not square so getting in and out is more awkward

the only awkward thing with having a ROC in the max is the damn turret. While it's not in the way of the ROC, if you park under it and get out it can be a bit of a so and so to get back in without accidently getting in the turret

Of the 2 ships me and my mate choose the MAX to duo mine, if we get a 3rd member of the team then we get them to scout in a Cutty with a ROC in the back too, so if the miners are busy on a big node the scout can set down and mine and then continue scouting after rather than sit around like a lemon waiting on the miners

MAX is, imo, the best ROC mining ship out there. Wide ramp, large spacious hanger (easy for two ROCs), The Hydrogen scoops are world class best in industry, and she is small enough to drop anywhere you are mining.

The rental is great for training but earning is on the lower side. Also, you can crack larger rocks in space than you can on a planet surface (not sure why, but you can). The idea with the rental is Volume. Go harvest everything you can above Agricium but the others are ok too (Heph, Titanium, Diamonds and Gold).

I would recommend avoiding the ROC-DS for solo or even for team mining. The DS is sort of, in my opinion, a item created to help raise funds for the game.

@fading nebula I run the vk00 on my prospector. Don't need to go from 1 side of galaxy to other. Just to farming spot to base. Has enough fuel to get from l1 to halo and back. Or from arc l1 to lyria and back no problem. And much faster than the atlas

That’s good advice too. If you’re planning on mining Quant then both QT drives will do the job nicely. I’ve never run my timer down while using the Atlas, it gets me back to the refinery in plenty of time. Still, with more time, you could be even more careful not to miss scooping up Quant.

Even with a Prospector I still go back to ROC mining fairly regularly, I enjoy the flying round a planet and switching to a ground vehicle to tear around the place and mine - especially with a couple of friends. Totally worth the 176k in my books

yup! that pays 45k/pop, and requires less travel because its A to B, but the pickup is an active bunker. so you need to go in with gear, dont get killed by the attackers, and dont shoot the security personnel.

Also, you can mine larger rocks in space than you can onland

So you will want to focus on asteroids

Generally speaking i tend to get the worst cracks for 20-30% Quant, and the best for 40% up. Still a good amount of RNG, but larger % helps alot.

You can combine a prospector though and it breaks up those rocs very quickly. Mining teams do extremely well in this game.

If you have 2 rocs, you can rent 2 prospectors and do quant mining.

With gadgets and 2 birds you can hit lyria and probably fill both prospectors on a cluster

Meaning 2 people are better suited in prospectors for money making than in a roc.

You just need to know what you're doing. If your end goal is to mine with a prospector, you should do that and start learning how to scan and how to find clusters. I can find 50scu of quant in about 15-20 minutes on Lyria. With that haul, both of you would end up with 22 scu on average and make 180k each for an hours worth of work.
