Well, with the right laser and modules you should be able to geat rocks under 5000 mass, and asteroid mining is also possible. But i dont think the 3mill is costs extra makes it better than the prosp when you´re alone

I use both solo. Prospector I enjoy more in the halo. On Lyria the mole is better imo. I like Lyria because I set the cruise to 500 and head in one direction until I find a cluster. I can find a cluster reliably in 10-15 minutes. I’ve spent 45 minutes in the halo to find one

Welcome to the mining world. Be sure to check out Cross's pinned guide in the forum. Also, find the publication that shows the different rings inside of Aaron's Halo if you're going to mine there. Keep in mind that the Halo is super sensitive to server health. So when the server is bogged down, scanning will include a lot of duds. You will not have that issue on Lyria as a rule. I have found Band 1 of the Halo is rich in Quantainium. Be patient because it will take a few hours in the cockpit to get the hang of all the oddities that comes along with this gameloop.

I keep my my ship pointed towards the station, set my cruise to 300, and only stop to scan signatures larger than 10000 aka two rocks.

Usually people I’ve talked to that say they are spending hours are either getting lost with no bearing point or are trying to scan every single rock

I wouldn’t go to Lyria till you get better at the belt. You will find rocks of various sizes on Lyria you will struggle to crack solo or wont give you a ship full

Gem pings only show up within 1.5 km if they show as a box farther away than that they are a ship minable rock

So the trick is to fly low and fast pinging constantly, only stop for stuff 1.5km or closer.

Finding gems chasing the farther ones is just happenstance

It's counterintuitive but once you get a hang on it it's not so bad

You can pull one or two work orders or just leave them. There is no limit as to how many you can have in a Refinery. HOWEVER be aware that when a patch drops (say like 3.17 going LIVE) the refinery jobs will be wiped. They do not persist.

If you have a bunch of jobs, you can rent a cutlass, freelancer or Connie and take them to market. If you rent a cutty, you can only take one job at a time (under 42SCU, iirc). When you are ready to buy a freighter to haul your jobs, I would recommend looking at the Freelancer MAX, I think it is the cheapest per SCU for hauling. With 120SCU you can take 3 or 4 refinery jobs per round

Also, you can just sell the RAW (earn's half as much) until you have enough to rent

Raw Quantainium has to be delivered to the refinery. When you land on the pad, you need to rush to stow your ship. Once stowed, the timer stops and you're good. At this point you can sell it raw (you get about 50% of value) or you can pay to refine it.

After Quan is refined, it is just like any other cargo. it is stable and will not explode

If you are cutting it close block a landing pad and get impounded. In my experience that is faster than landing, getting out of the ship, calling elevator, riding , storing. Basically if I see the red I’m going for an impound

When I rented, you could change the laser head at that time. Now you can't. BUT you can crack larger rocks in the asteroid belt than you can on a planet surface. The rental isn't the best earner, but you can earn and learn with it.

I own the Prospector in RL so I was able to begin making cash day one after the wipe.

Bounty Hunting is a solid game loop also. The illegal survellence pays 20K per trip. The trick here is to find all 3 of the spy satelites first before destroying them. When you get within 2k of them, it creates a persisting pip so you have them marked.

ROC mining has some serious challenges in its current iteration. I love the ROC but 3.14 blew it up and it is not the earner it use to be. I think if doing a rental, the Prospector will teach you more. The ROC can earn good coin but you can hardly find the deposits to mine.

It’s possible but not probable. I can pretty consistently find two rocks in a cluster with a decent amount of quant. 50-60 scu a run. Most I’ve gotten solo is 77scu. You have to crack everything down then scoop last

I tried a impact with surge focus and torrent on a similar sized rock. Couldn’t keep it in the green. Switched to my lancet surge stampede torrent III and cracked it

the 30K protection works pretty good for ships, I've seen no love for ROC mining having any type of recovery at all. If you were flying and the ROC was stowed in the back, then yes, all that would've been recovered and fully intact. Just remember you can't "claim" the ship, it always has to show "retrieve"

Agree 100%. I miss it. I loved mining with the ROC way more than with the Prospector. And was nice to be able to swap between the two. But something about being down on the planet, out on the surface, working the gems. It was really immersive to me.

I did roc mining to try and buy a prospector. The only to protect your cargo is to drag it over to your ship one at a time between runs. It’s painful. I gave up after all the crashes.

But yes I did love it, fun to land and get a piece of equipment out. I hope they fix the issues and make it more lucrative

The mole is fun when you can find a cluster with enough to fill your hold. It’s also very frustrating to have to switch seats and that the seats are so far away. It’s also EXTREMELY annoying when the module slots are bugged and you think you are using one thing but it’s actually another. All my lasers are loaded out stampede then surge but one of them goes surge then stampede. I blew myself up trying to use a stampede when it was actually a surge. All you can do is sit and watch the rock go boom because you can’t move the ship

I would like to see the turrets be remote, or at least one of them. It’s kind of lame that an entire gameplay loop has two ships and only one meant for solo. Needs some competition

All the servers are suffering right now, the Evo PTU is crashing to desktop like a bad dog. Lot of players on LIVE are reporting degraded performance. Mining in Aaron's Halo has pretty much come to a stop now. This is the first PTU (with new code) to run on the infrastructure in a long time, it's going to be rough for awhile.

Bounty hunting is one of the most profitable. The first missions are not so much but if you get to VHRT and ERT then it just take 10 to 15 min to earn 100k.

BTW, the rental Prospector can crack larger rocks in the asteroid field than it can on planet surfaces. Not sure why, but that is the result of some testing by SuperMacBrother Ryan. Surprisingly the Arbor MH1 (which does not live to up lore in the game) has more power than the Lancet (without the buffs). Lancet rated for 1200 Power Transfer while the Arbor is rated at 1400. I have a feeling the next patch might take the title from the Lancet. I could (and hope) I'm wrong. Only time will tell.

There are lag issues that often happen. The next patch will have some desync fixes. What I do is I always jiggle my throttle up and down, if I do not see response I know that there is lag and I pull the throttle back down.

Lag has been worst lately, I think the PTU testing is affecting the Live servers. This is my speculation, but it's a pattern I've noticed with practically every patch when in PTU

You can get the hang of it starting very small with little risk. Go to Humboldt or Loveridge and buy some gold or titanium. Take that to Area 18 TDD. Then at the TDD buy scrap and take that to the admin at ARC-L1

Look up the "Bands" associated with Aaron's Halo aka asteroid belt. There are 8 rings with varying success of finding Quantainium. I have search 7 or the 8. I've still yet to test band 8, but what I have found is that 5, the largest and most densely populated tends to have less Quan. Bands 4 and 6 have had good results. 7 had ok returns, like band 2. Band 1 has been a treasure trove for me as it relates to Quantainium.

Todd Papy today shared on ISC that the issue with scanning of asteroids is a bug that will need server meshing to fully address. For 3.17 they have tried some fixes but are not sure the success of those just yet. 3.17 in PTU has been crashing a good bit so I have not had time to test the new mining gadgets and also see how the scanning is for the asteroids. Of course experience in the PTU rarely reflects LIVE performance, but it can be an indicator.

The "illegal surveillance" mission pays 20K. The trick is to find all three of the illegal pods first before trying to destroy them. When you get within 2k meter of them you get a persistent marker of where it is. So you find all 3 first then destroy all three before the backups get there

I tried just few times bed log, even recently... But always woke up at station. Even if you sucessfuly bed logged, i wouldnt risk it with cargo. As next time you might not be that lucky and you will lost your cargo.

Personally, as someone that doesn't like having to replace parts, I like going for the passive modules. For quant, I will always stand by my decision of 2xReiger C3 and 1x Vaux C3

More stability and optimal zone, and won't run out of you like the active modules

When i did ROC mining on Daymar (2x) i was collecting everything and i had almost full cargo in around 2h. Then i went to try mine on Aberdeen. Was picky there, collecring only Hadanite, ignoring other gems. And in approx 4 hours i had full cargo. Worth of 260k i think. Once you know what you are looking for, and are not completely unlucky its quite ok.

With the Rental, go into the asteroid belt and mine for Laranite and a few other ores. There the charge that Brunevde shared earlier

For some odd reason, the rental can crack larger rocks in the asteroid belt than on a planet surface.

Bexalite is plentiful but I've not tried to crack with a rental. Borase breaks like trash, don't waste your time on it. Titanium, diamond and gold are decent for a rental.

Area18 is a fun place. It is now my home world. I originally started in New Babbage on MicroTech but found the offerings of ArcCorp to be much better for me.

Also, that tram ride is one of the best in the 'verse at this point

I work mainly out of CRU-L1 and mine Aaron's Halo but I avoid Orison like the plague. Lyria is a fantastic place but I enjoy exploring the belts

There are some issues with mining in the belt that is unique to it. The server health is paramount as it relates to scanning. Bad server, lots of dud scans. I have found that Band 1 (there are 8 rings in Aaron's Halo) is a treasure trove of Quantainium.

for the Halo, you really don't need anything but the Lancet. The Surge speeds things up. Plus never any pirate issues, and you burn way less fuel. My last run (to band 1) was two trips and roughly about 460K aUEC earnings

Because the hops are so short, I normally mine anything over 15%. I don't leave potential rocks behind to try to score a pure 32 SCU of Quan run.

I mostly mine on Lyria and have just started Halo mining. There doesn't seem to be any particular spot better than others, though I've had success near SPAL-3, SPAL-7 and SPAL-21, it seems pretty random though.

So I just QT to any old spot, check around there a bit, and if I don't find any clusters (rock clusters are always Quant, but not always worthwhile), I just go back up and try a different spot. It's kinda like fishing

In the Halo I've had great luck with Band 1. It is not densely populated but good Quan

Band 4 and 6 also seem to be good.

Band 5 is the most densely populated but I've not had as good of luck there
