I have only done two runs so far. When I found a group all the rocks seemed to have a primary mineral they shared, not seen a quant themed group yet. For me it was a 45% solo rock. This was in the halo.

Break all rocks down first, then extract. I always have 8 or 9 mines left when I store the ship

My best advice is do something else till you can quant mine. Roc cargo is not 30k protected and I’ve spent hours mining only to lose it all. The collection arm is bugged and a good portion of the rocks spawn underground. Not worth the hassle

I wanted it to work. Even swapped my titan for a cutlass black so I could transport the roc. I tried putting the rocks in a backpack and moving them to my ship. No luck. I think i lost 4 loads to either 30ks or a crash to desktop. Worst part is you can tell it’s coming on when things stop responding then boom

Today I was running cargo and approaching Everus Harbor with about 600k of Laranite and diamonds when my ship suddenly exploded.

I was entering the hangar at about 1/4 scm or less and switching between first and third person views to ensure clearance. The explosion happened just as I was crossing the threshold of the hangar, the blue field.

This is the third time it's happened in a few weeks and now I'm out over 1m aUEC.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any possible way to recover any of those funds?

Ok, trade isn't going to net you much of anything. You'll earn 20% of a very small amount.
You can learn the basics but not much more. And that video I mentioned to you earlier by Jack axton goes through the best routes for small haulers

Until you get a CAT or Hercules, you can't really do trade as good income

I'll use ArcCorp as an example. You go to the TDD at area 18 and buy whatever amount of scrap you want for the Hercules, then you take that to ARC-L1 and sell in the Admin office

You can leave the C2 up at the space station and use a small ship to ferry from the ground to the station

That'll save you about a thousand or more in fuel

I would recommend leaving the Herc at the space port and ferry down to the surface in a small ship. Make the purchase and then pick up the Herc at Tressler. The inventory is common between the main space port and the surface city of the planet of each system.

Are you using the Free-Fly Prospector? If so, I'd recommend making hay and earning enough funds to buy one in game. Great thing about this ship is that it'll allow you to buy whatever you want in game.

After getting the Prospector I would recommend a decent cargo ship. The most inexpensive ratio of cost to SCU is the MAX. You get 120 SCU for little over 2M aUEC

You can survive with the stock, but to shave a few extra seconds off, the the XL-1 or the Siren are perfect for that. I went with the Siren because of the slow "ramp up" speed (QD have multiple stages of speed in travel) so that it lets me jump short ranges more accurately in Aaron's Halo.

I use the Voyage. I can travel about 19Mkm with a load of Quant before the timer starts beeping. Gives me a little more range of trying different places in the belt that might be off the beaten path, so to speak.

Planet side you will find that Lyria is the best. As for Aaron's Halo, it's more of a true prospecting job to locate good bands in the belt.

I have found that for the Belt that the outer band offers some good results.

As an example I use CRU-L1 to ARC-L3 as reference.

Go towards ARC-L3 and drop out of QT at 11.5M Km to 11.4M Km from ARC-L3

Keep in mind that mining in the asteroid belt is heavily depended upon the server's health. If it is laggy, you will get a lot of dud scans. You can try jumping about 20K Km from your spot and try scanning again. If still bad, bail on the server for another one.

First thing I do is set my return QT point back to CRU-L1 to use as a reference.
Secondly I set my max cruise to the optimal speed (the point before the red on the slider scale).
Third I ramp up to to my cruising speed and then uncouple, coasting along
Fourth I set my Ping to 180 degrees ("what's behind me does not concern me" Canonball Run)
Fifth, as I cruise and ping, I use the maneuvering thrusters to allow me to past returns within 2400 meters so I can scan them as they go by.

When I hit a cluster that is Quantainium, I got back into coupled mode to scan all the rocks to find the two "randomized" asteroids. These two will be the rocks that are not the regular 2% readings. The area that I mentioned, in 4 trips I found over 94 SCU of quantainium = over 800K aUEC

If you're scanning an area and it's a dud (no hits) after 10min, jump again 10 or 20K Km and try again.

One thing you can also do is hire a spotter. When you're in a group, they can go and find the rocks for you. While you harvest and return the load to the refinery, they can be searching for the next 40% rock. I would pay them based off of what you harvest (less refinery fees). If I haul 32 SCU, I pay them (ranging from 100K to 125K). Over a 1/3 but under 1/2. But you can also go with a prearranged amount before hire. Saying, Hey, I'll pay you 100K to help me find a couple of 30 to 45% rocks. etc

The outer bands seem to have a good ratio. I would recommend that if you look for about 10min an don't get a hit, that you jump about 20K Km and start again (this is also good to do if you get a bunch of dud scans).
Using CRU-L1 to ARC-L3 as a reference, when you QT jump towards ARC-L3 drop out of QT travel at 11.5M to 11.4M Km from ARC-L3.
I did 4 runs and got over 93 SCU (roughly 800K aUEC in value).

I've got a cargo hold full of quartz (not trying to make a ton of money, ust trying to get the hang of doing cargo runs) but I can't seem to tell it anywhere. From what the trading sites say, Port Olisar should buy quartz... but it doesn't show up as an option. Any advice?

I would recommend getting the Lancet (MH1 - size one) laser head to use. The stock laser head is garbage. The Lancet is pretty cheap

Then go to the station that is experiencing the 9T Lockdown and go to the Admin. The sell will be for the normal amount but then you will get a bonus issued for the sell.

There will be traffic of other shippers, so expect delays. There will also be other players trying to toll the outpost demanding pay to land and take off.

You can put consumables in the sub-item slots to help increase the mining head's stats

The mining heads and consumables can be bought at any station with a refinery, but the different stations all have slightly different stock for sale

Mole is better in the Halo because you can take all the quant in the rock, having alot more ORE capacity

so you dont have to worry about the inert and other stuff so much

You could just be scanning the initial ping and not the rock

So like as you press tab those boxes will pop up where rocks will be and if you try to scan the rock while in scan mode and that box hasn’t disappeared you most likely just didn’t scan the rock

I love my C2. Very fast for a ship that size. Also, during 9Tails Lockdown you can make about 1M aUEC per cargo run of Medical Supplies. You can also make decent coin hauling even scrap. No regrets having this ship in my hanger.

it is a crap shot for sure, but I've hit some good zones from CRU-L1 to ARC-L3. I find that 11.5M Km to 11.4M Km is a good spot to drop out of QT and find some ore. My experience is that the outer bands seem to hold better Quan, but mileage varies

Mining in SC feels much more developed gameplay wise. There's much more know-how involved than in elite.

From balancing your mining beam to collection and additional mechanics. (like ore that blows up)

It's less boring and more involved than in Elite. Plus you have ground- and Hand-mining you can throw in the mix

In Elite I considered mining too boring to do it .... in SC it's fun, at least for a while every now and then.
