So good news: finally got my prospector, bad news: spent a session buying modules thinking they were shared inventory, spent another session flying around and getting them again, spent another session actually finding rocks, found a good one and broke it but the blast caused my ship to fall apart? Was forced to kill myself then when I claimed my ship all my modules were gone

Is the goal to never go into the red at all or just have no overcharge when it breaks (does going into the red once ruin a rock)?

No, the only way you take damage from mining is if you are right up on a rock, like physically touching it when it breaks, or overcharging the red zone. The red fills up just like the green, and the more charge it has, the more violent the explosion is.

if you are saying you did not charge the red at all and it still exploded, and you weren't touching the rock, then I don't know, that's never happened to me.

Has anyone run into that issue with modules though? I can’t spend half my time flying around the system getting them, on a related note they only have so many uses so does that mean you have to fly around rebuying them once they’re used up?

Arc-l1 looks pretty solid, out of curiosity which modules do you use? Do you sell at Area18 once you refine the qt?

I use surge, stampede, and a FLTR-XL.

If you’re just starting out don’t worry about the FLTR, it’s expensive and if you crash it’s gone. Maybe look into a Brandt or Lifeline.

Also, depending on what you’re mining, you could likely benefit from changing your mining head out for a Lancet MH1.

I take all my ore to Loreville. Area 18 irritates me for some reason lol.

When you buy modules, they show up in the station inventory. Hit I and youll see them there. Go get in a ship, dont sit down yet, press I, and drag them over to your ship inventory. Go to where you base at, and reverse the process.

Go to CRU L1. Set QT to ARC L3. Drop out of QT exactly at 12,500,000 km from ARC L3.

If you drop out 100,000 or 50,000 km's too soon, you won't be in the spot. The asteroids are not as dense if you drop out too early.

there is almost a feel to picking up minerals with the Roc without them flying all over, but ive left mine behind plenty of times as well in frustration. Roc is interesting as ive been unable to crash/blow it up from jumping off high cliffs or running it into rocks full speed

I found when scooping gems in the ROC to try and pick up small clusters at a time then just aim at an empty patch while it collects. If I just sweep over everything at once it just bugs out

once you get the hang of it it's quite zen and fun. you will only have ~10-15 mins of outside time before you cook BUT it resets going into your ship. If the roc jams up hop out and pop the cargo hold open and move a gem

You can't change the modules on rented ships. In order to break big quant rocks you need to change the modules on the prospector.

That is why it is not worth it to rent. It's pretty cheap to buy anyways. A day or two of bounties and you can own it.

Does anyone have trouble with pros mining? I have tried several times in the past day or two and there is like a 3 second lag where the mining tool “forgets” what it’s doing and rescans the rock and then the charge will jump to catch up from where it had been, makes it super difficult to keep it in the green, it’s not continuous if that makes sense, I’ve done hand and roc mining so I know what it should look like, using Brandt also

Right, kind of like that, but I’m holding my laser in one spot and the rock “ghosts”, the charge stays put and the rock re-scans then the charge jumps to the new location which is usually significant after 3 seconds or so

Scanning is hosed for the most part. If you are looking at a rock and it doesn't scan, you can hit the laser on it real quick off/on and it will scan the ore again. It doesn't keep the data of previously scanned rocks. It also does a rescan when you start to either break or collect the ore, like you've discovered. It is a hassle but overall doesn't stop you from collecting or cracking

Scanning issue spills over to other areas too, especially with ROC mining

Prospector can’t haul refined ore. Need a ship with cargo space. I use a Constellation Taurus. Others use a C2 Hercules.

You can also rent a Cutlass Black to move it.

I don’t think you can split a work order up. It’s either all or nothing, OR it will max out the cargo and the rest becomes trash.

I've stacked as many as 28 jobs before filling up a C2 to take it to market. I would recommend smaller bites

Refining quant doubles the value. If that's worth it or not is something only you can decide for your style if play.

I personally refine every bit of quantanium I pickup.

But you'll also need to take it to market after it's refined and have a ship that will do so.

On the next open sale (twice per year - July and Nov) buy a CCU to the Orion. It doesn't matter if it a ship you don't have just grab something that isn't too expensive. That way you've locked the Orion and you can upgrade to anytime you want. But you need to make sure your CCU is from a ship that is available all the time. The Constellation Andromeda is a popular one (iirc)

Or in your case, it's a win win to upgrade the MOLE directly to the Orion because you get two mining ships back as loaners.

What’s the largest size rock a prospector can break? Found a sweet 46% that was 6000 and I don’t think I was capable, settled for the 27% one (about 5000) in the same cluster due to timing and had no issues

The MAX also makes the best ROC escort ship out there. Wide ramp for super fast and easy Roll-on, Roll-off. And best fuel usage. It's a great size to land anywhere with no issues. I've used it for over a year in that role. Great ship

I'm guessing your found it, but if you check @crimson mantle website, you will see that SMO-22 & 10 on MT are big producers, while Woodruff and Rider on Ita in Hurston sector is the other two big producers.

The top end box missions bring 40K aUEC with building reputation. I think it also involves some PvE with NPCs.

Trade works but you need a larger ship to make decent turns, but you don't have to have a huge ship. Just realize the profit is directly scaled to the size of the ship. So C2 pulls top dollar. I would consider the MAX the smallest ship you'd want to do trade in.

The OM are about 145Km above the surface, so it'll be about 5 minutes to descend
