i started of the station but forgot to hail it again before I qt to lorville 😦
I didn't know this! So you lift off the origin station and immediately ask for docking permission, just to proceed to your destination?
got there and started a refining process, but how do I get rid of the inert materials now? 😅
when you start a refinery process everything which is not enabled will be lost in space
aah okay, it said it would need 20 mins, can I also leave the station and go mine another charge?
yes you ore is unloaded now and you can keep on mining
sweet
@gilded bluff This is what I read about it here yesterday, I hope its ok to post it here without blurring the names, I just wanted it for me as a reminder that its possible
but I forgot to hail the station before I started quantum.. so.. bye bye ~1 mio of quantainum.. 😦
Is it normal that I dont find hand mineable rocks in a prospector?
Anyone doing any mining projects I could team up on?
nvm just as I posted this I fly by a bunch of a hedanite rocks haha
can someone recommend me a place to mine? Been on aberdeen and most rocks either are mostly aluminium or tungsten, and those with valuable ores have inert materials 80%
I would recommand astroid mining in HUR L3 or CRU L3 and only look for quantanium
I have no experience with this vehicle
aah okay
@rigid badge I would take a "Lancet MH1 Mining Laser" and Surge and Torpid addons. With this you should be able to crack any astroid you come along
thanks for the hint
but currently trying to figure out how much i can make with the stock prospector
to see if its worth it, or if i should start with a roc first
@rigid badge renting a prospector isnt worth
def snag the lancet and surge. and brandt if u buy one
problem with renting is you cant change the laser
^
Is there a known fix for this? I have some quant in my MSR that it would let me sell. It's this quant, specifically. I have loaded different quantainum, as well as laranite. It let's sell that, but it would specifically let me sell this 4400. I have tried storing the ship and at both area 18 and Loreville, which both buy quant. It would let me select the ship in the drop down, when just this is left.
got another question about refineries: can I pick up my refined minerals from any refinery? Cause i forgot where i went lol
no it needs to be the same 🙂
cleanest run I had so far 🥳
General consensus is to avoid ROC mining for a bit because it’s really hard to find the mineables compared to previous patches. As for where to mine, look up Aaron’s halo belt. You’ll want quant preferred but anything that ends in “ite” is not terrible to pick up.
Whats the best starting ship for mining/cargo?
No. Has to be the one you submitted it to. Each refinery has different bonuses for different ores so it makes a difference.
Mining and cargo are different. I don’t know much about cargo but mining ship is either prospector or mole. Starting off you want the prospector as it’s meant for solo play. Normally the recommendation is to start with a ROC for ground mining and a cutty black for transport (or a max)
Sounds good, thank you
Recommend not renting a prospector as you can’t change the mining head. Some of the others have great links to mining guides
@crimson mantle and @north oyster are two of the best in this channel for guidance. I’ve never been steered wrong by them
thanks for the kind "kudo's" !! And it's sad we can't recommend ROC mining at this time. Hopefully CIG will fix it by 3.14.1 patch because being out on the planet exploring and mining is a ton of fun for me.
i can def help anyone get into mining. i run weekly mining operations/trainings
Any way to tell how much cargo you have in you ship when you're in your ship (other than seeing the physical boxes)?
no
I would hold off on mining right now, its just too glitchy.
How is it more glitchy lately than it's been for a long time? It's definately the second best way to make money in the game and argably on part with bounty hunting for the next few days until a bug gets fixed.
I love mining, and it is such a great source of income. However it just seems like recently the scanning has been horrible. Like it resets the scan on the same rock you are working on causing it to overload or you to lose progress. And the wrong values being displayed, and only a small portion of the rock being considered "minable".
I didnt really play too much in 3.13 so it could have been like this then but it used to be such a solid profession and right now it just feels like crap
I think I was seeing a little of that last night now that you mention it. I've just been getting back into mining so I can't say when the bugs happened. No the positive side, I was totally blown away that a character reset I was forced to do today DID NOT clear my 1.6 million in refined ores! I expected to lose that.
Incredible how in one patch we went from 2 gameplay loops to 1.5 instead of increasing
Anyone found a really spot on explanation of how the new scanning modes work? I've found a few vids that try to explain it, but none have really helped me get the best understanding yet. Right now I want to understand it thoroughly in the context of mining.
Bad bad parenting!
thoughts?
Its the same as before - you scan, you see 🙂
Found this while out in my Prospector and was just about to get it cracked when an NPC Gladius pirate missiles me in the butt. I tried to fight him for that rock, but he'd already taken out half my ship (thrusters at least). Did get the Prospector back to the port though.
The one that got away! 😩
CIG give me back my Palisade or FR-66 shield strength so I can fight for my rocks!
Are you sure it was NPC? Never seen that while mining
@blissful rain honestly, it'll probably be automatically tracked by the game system, so the best you could do with your own cargo back would be to illegally sell it. Also, there's probably a penalty involved. Player-wise stopping it, not really anything except protect the cargo
Thanks for reminding me
- it was just a Gladius and PKs usually fly better. 2) it was doing the same cussing at me when I hit it that all NPCs do. You know, the dude who sounds like Phil Collins with tourrettes.
If it was a player killer, they should be ashamed of their flying, because they had the jump on my Prospector and I still almost took them out with half my thrusters and then escaped.
best place to go with a default prospector laser im a poor renter
What? Not sure what you're asking?
Best place to mine with a default prospector
and the laser is what defines what u can mine right
Ah, I'd say the best place to mine for a rented prospector is just around the refineries.
The reason I say that is that you can't really crack a quant rock with a rented prospector.
like quantity over quality until u can mine quantanium
Bounties are better in my opinion because you can work up your rep andget to better missions. What ship do you have?
yep
but my bounty certs reset and the vlrt and lrts are so boring
do u get paid more on average at higher rep or do u get better paying harder missions
Once you get to VHRTs and group VHRTs you'll be pulling in the creds for the new ship. And yes, you can do then with a Gladius.
guessing ill need some new shields at least for vhrts
but i managed to get multiple orders out of one load last night
think it duped
when mining
idk how i did it
but if i did it again im guessing it is big money
All the shields are the same right now (I think) unfortunately. I do miss my Palisade and FR-66 combo!
i read double pallisade is very nice
aight ill start grinding bountys what rep do i have to be at to earn big bucks
I made three orders out of a pure prospector load of Quant tonight. Hello 800k.
jeez
i just wanted to try out mining but if orders dupe then im kinda alot more enclined to mine
it will wipe before beta anyway so doubt it matters that much
I won't dupe for much longer. It's getting fixed by the weekend I bet.
I'm just ... testing it for them ... right now! 😉
seems like a pretty big exploit i imagine they would want it fixed by free fly
It's aleady fixed in the PTU.
when is next update
No one ever knows that for sure.
I've made far far more bounty hunting than mining and that's still going to be true for me even in 3.14.
@hollow sedge, you may be able to crack roids with small amounts of Quant with a rented prospector. Once you've gotten some practice on the roids at CRU L1, go to ARC L3 and you'll find some roids with 4% to 8% quant which you may be able to crack.
Is anyone here who was able to sell their mined ores? Even after refining I cant sell it to the Admin in a refinery station
you need to fly to a capital city to sell
Ooooooh
So I wouldnt be able to mine my cutlass with a roc full and then sell to a mining station?
That sounds tedious
think u should refine first anyway
already did
oh then u just need to fill ur cutlass with the refined and go sell to a city
Okay thx
Does that even work how I imagine it? Like can I mine with roc and transfer the cargo from the rock to a cutlass?
hey guys! Is there a way I can mine big rocks of quant with prospector?
I have both helix and lancet not sure if I can mine it with active upgrades?
the lancet is perfect, take surge mod and I persoanlly use torpid as extra mod and have no trouble with quantanium
hmm don't think there is Surge in my outpost here, let me check one more time
trty space stations with refinery, they got most of em
can you mine the big rocks as well? the over over 5k mass and quite resistant?
arc L1 doesnt have surge
Thought I would share with y'all. Last night I was able to manipulate someone's refinery screen. I could not take action but when they were on the "welcome" screen I clicked "Begin" and scrolled through their duped (9x) jobs. I was able to scroll through their available ships to deliver the cargo. I could not stop and collect their unfinished job. Later I tested on someone else and I could not collect their finished job for them. Not a bug or concern yet but something to watch out for in future fixes/patches
I was also in a bad mood cause bugs so I would not have felt bad about messing up that dude exploiting the refinery bug that badly. occasionally a dupe or triple sure whatever but 9 jobs w/ same quantities and time to complete is stupid and lazy
@proper hound but I got some torpid here
so surge is to get you in the green and torpid if you cant keep it therE?
sry I cant remember where i bought mine, its 1 year ago and I still have some in stock.
yes surge to boost to almost green, and torpit also lowers the resistance which makes it easier to reach green and keep it there without big jumps
alright, thank you. Ill go hunt down Surge and then try it out
good luck 🙂
They have surge at PO, Lorville, HUR-L1 and HUR-L2 according to the internet
which feels like forever away from ARC L1
🤑 this is so satisfying
Sexy
Is there a way of transfering cargo from one ship to another?
not yet
shit ok
sad in Reclaimer
mining in reclaimer, now that would be fun
I feel ya! Got it since a long time.. and sometimes I take it out just to have a look at it.. cant wait to finaly use it... 🥺
You can spawn it in Grim Hex and be fine. Planetside though...
once i spawned it in orison just to see whats it like.. toke me more than one hour to leave atmosphere..
Yeah... I even have Best in Show edition
Hangar 13 can hold it at Grim Hex if you want to fly it
But good luck getting in
do you know how it works with the ships name? I reserved mine when it was possible in march? In hangar it says it has the name, but in game it has no name.. do I need to activate it or something?
Nope no clue
ROC mined minerals aren't refined.
Is there any way to drop non-quant cargo?
I hear there isn't, so far only quant
Ok, here's how it works on 3.14. Left Alt + J does it instead of left alt + T like in 3.13 and before. Also, you can't eject anything unless you have an alarm condition, but when you do, everything gets ejected even if you only had one tiny particle of quantanium.
In my testing today, I also realized that you don't actually have to land your ship to preserve your mined (or probably any type of) cargo. If you think you are less than 30 seconds from exploding you can just request and get docking permission and then you can exit the game for immediate storage. I didn't know that would work before.
thats pretty nice
Yeah I used that last night to get rid of a half of load of titanium or something. I found a nice quant rock as i was tooling around. i opened the quant rock, found the worst piece that had like 1% quant and extracted that (got .32 SCU). then I sat back and waited for alarm condition. hit ALT+J as you said and it dumped everything. Then filled up on the quant from rest of rock
I got my MOLE with aUEC! now to earn a little more to fit it the way I want
daamn Im so far away from it
is it worth it to grind up reputation in cargo missions the way you get higher payouts with bounty hunting? or is it BH and mining stil gona vastly outpay other missions?
I don't think there are higher paying hauling missions
so I was scooping my 5th quant rock and it just went critical beeping like mad. I didn't even know that could happen. I was sure I have 13ish minutes once I scoop
@harsh flax do you think pinning this would be helpful here?
It explains why cargo is so broken
not sure who helped me yesterday but
I am still a bit confused about the missing person contract, which one leads you to a cave?
or better asked, how do you even find a cave to mine?
Mikhail i used to do investigation missions around Hurston there was a mission you could get that was worth 4k auec but always put you in a cave
Is there a reason to solo mine with a Mole over a Prospector ?
cargohold Im guessing
as I understand it we will get a new patch today? Do I need to be worries about my refining jobs? Some are complete waiting and some will be in 12hrs
Unless you can figure out how to slave all of the mining turrets to the pilot's seat
I solo in my mole. Bit annoying jumping from pilot to laser but it’s totally ok.
same
But it doesn't feel worth it to me
Fair enough mate.
carry 3x as much
It's more along the lines of having to get up and go to a different spot
are you being able to fill the mole with quant completely solo?
no
For me it depends on the rock. I’ve broken 8k rocks with lanclet surge and stampede
Go from SAL 2 to that refinery close by… forget it’s name.
Make sure everything is cracked before hand.
I don't get stampede, what does it exactly do?
Increases the optimal window and two other things that I forget.
the size of it?
I pop both modules at first and see where I’m at then pop the second surge to get it into the optimal range.
Yeah.
are you sure thats spampede?
Yup. Pretty sure. Hang on.
Something like that. Anyways, I was advised to use those two and it hasn’t let me down.
I used just now surge and optimum yeah
works like a charm but optimum is a bit short with 20 sec
I dont crack the rock always in 20sec
and every time module turn on OR off I get rescan and don't see whats happening on the rock.
That happens to me as well.
ok one more question, Im getting all of my quant to market before patch hits because Im not sure if its going to be wiped.
What happens with my quant if I stop the job half way? Do I get to reprocess it again or do I lose the non reprocessed part?
I have several job and Im not willing to risk it 🙂
what about stopping the jobs? do you know what happens
Nope
some are saying you lose non refined part. I have maybe 10% left on one, may just try
yeah you lose it
Are low value ores ever worth mining? Shit like copper
If you like roleplay yes, if you like money no
Will the patch reset or clear completed refinery orders?
none knows for sure. Some say it has happened in past, some say it only happens for big game changing patches. Ive sold my finished quant just now and two jobs will be finished tomorrow so we will see if it fails
Yeh makes sense will ship out and sell the completed stuff now
That's from Jack Axton, he's maybe the most knowledgeable person as to trade there is, including those in CIG
I have no idea what that means for my refining jobs
can I put my refined resources in a friends cargo ship to sell?
No
what cargo ship do you recommend I rent
@stable raven whatever fits all your cargo
why don't you like it?
I see
I'm saving for MOLE now because of the multi-crew play. Several times I was on the turret and multi-crew play feels really nice. That said, I did not try mining in pack of Prospectors. Which also sounds (and probably feels) good!
well shiiit, I lost almost half a mil on refining jobs. Its all gone
I am not hopeful.
CIG just stole over 2 million credits worth of my refined ores! Bastiges!
thanks for making me feel a bit better about my own loss 😛
Anyone read/checked/tested yet to see if the refining dupe bug fix was added in this patch?
no, let us know
That's what I'm doing now.
I've been getting attacked by NPCs at ARC L3. Not PKs. It's happened to me several times now.
I guess I'll try Aron Halo again. It is almost never productive for me but I'll try again.
I had a few nearly 100% quant jobs finished pre hotfix. Hope they’re not gone :/
hehe they are 🙂
I saved half of mine one hour before patch.
They are gone and I just verified that the refining dupe bug is fixed.
thanks!
What should I buy to mine quant in a prospector?
Ok thanks, any suggestions on where to look?
the OVI listed for planets is significantly higher than that of any asteroid belt
is mining planetside always better?
also is refining always better, or are there times I'd want to sell raw
Thank you
Can't get asteroids scanned to see composition in prospector?
Get close to the rock and switch to mining mode if you're having problems scanning. If the mining laser isn't scanning point towards the base of the rock. You may have to move it around a bit to get it to scan.
Does it make sense that I spent over an hour at Lyria and found no significant quantanium?
I've heard that the 'highlands' (dark grey from orbit) parts of Lyria have a higher chance of spawning quant rocks, but that could be a load of rubbish. I've definitely had trips to Lyria before and not found anything though, but other trips where I've taken back 31.5 SCU of quant
K good to know. Tz
Is there a way to take commodities from the boxes and put it into ship storage?
Or transfer directly from a ROC to a ship?
ROC to backpack, but I don't think ROC to ship.
Can't do backpack to ship?
I've never done it. I'd like to know too.
The whole ROC only has .8 SCUs of storage and units in the ROC are measured in uSCUs (1000nth SCU) instead of cSCUs (100th SCU) like in mining ships.. Backpack mineral storages is also measured in uSCUs, I believe, and the biggest backpacks only hold 130-150 uSCUs.
I tried to do some more digging on getting it into the ship, and it seems like it downs in if your ship has a panel for cargo interaction. It seems like something most ships would have, but I'm not sure.
Can you sell the boxes that you can drop out of the roc or does it have to be from inventory?
I've never dropped a box out of a ROC. Have you? I've only ever sold minerals directly out of a ROC or out of my backpack.
I've never seen one SCU of Hadenite for instance. If you could put that in a SCU "box" and into a ship it would, many many many times over, be the most valuable single SCU in the game. I think that is highly unlikely that you can. It would be like selling gold or perfectly cut diamonds by the pound in RL. I just doesn't happen very often if ever.
Yeh all jobs gone. Also lost over 1.3mill uaec from when I sold quant last night before the patch? Anyone else missing money?
regarding mining in a prospector, is asteroid mining or mining on a moon better?
Rocks are bigger on moon. More likely to fill a whole prospector from one rock. If you can find a good one. Will probs need a more powerful head too
makes sense
and regarding refining, are there any ores I should sell raw or should I just refine everything
I fill a whole prospector 100% quant from a mass 5000+ roid at a quant % of 35%+. I did it three times just today. I don't need to hastle of big Lyria rocks unless I have a Mole!
Noice I haven't had much luck in the belt finding anything at that %
Is there anyone that might be able to loan me 200k credits so that I can afford cargo, I should be able to pay it back by tomorrow because the trade route I've found should be about 45k profit every 10 minutes because of the location. Thank you
and if not I understand and wont ask any further
trust me, it wont
because they wont buy your cargo
trading is broke right now
it'll actually take about 2 hours at least to sell a full load
Thanks, I appreciate the advice
A: is there a limit to number of active work orders? and B: If my refinery order finishes but it cant store all the material inside one of my ships, do I lose the remainder?
From my experience if your ship can't hold it you cant haul any of it
unless that was a glitch
Anyone else having severe issues scanning and mining rocks this morning? Will not scan or initiate mining for 80%of the rocks. Ironically its always the nice big quant rocks. Cannot scan them with normal scanner or mining scanner
that basically
I had that other day and was supper frustrated.
None yet that I know of. I have had 18 after spending a day mining everything indiscriminately. Since you put one job at a time into a ship it you want to make sure that it can hold all of that job. If you are kinda broke/ in early game, renting a freelancer max for hauling a few trips to sell would be a good idea.
I must have missed it but at what point did they announce this was a .1 revision instead of a hotfix?
if i had known that I would have cleared out my jobs
No idea, I think it caught a lot of people by surprise because it wasn't .1 on the PTU iirc
ok I am not crazy. someone in org was like "this was a .1 release" and i'm like "
"
they may have done that to catch the refinery dupers by surprise?
I've found if you fly away and then back the unscannable rocks can fix themselves. But only some
^ Also shooting them with the laser sometimes works for me too.
Too bad the prospector isn't on sale. Would be awesome to get a warbond discount on that (not that crap insurance warbond stuff)
so whats the best way to trade?
To not trade
Honestly though, at the moment there's a lot of financial risk in trading (e.g. server crash wiping all your cargo) and not much profit, but trading high-availability 'commodities' like scrap or food can make a small amount of credits
ah so rn theres no point in owning a cargo vessel?
At the moment, you could use the free-fly prospector to mine lots of different ores and suchlike, refine them, and then fly them around to sell at different locations. Trade supply and demand is very broken, though.
Some cargo ships are pretty well armed though for PvE combat missions, or you could do box deliveries and stuff like that.
you're kidding? They pushed it as x.1? Dang, did you loose your refinery jobs? My computer is down (new motherboard on the way) and I might put some old gear in it so I can at least look in the 'verse while I wait.
yes, all ongoing refining jobs are gone
oh freak, Why thanks CIG for the napalm to the face move.
I don't know why you wouldn't expect that
Depends on how you define "Own". There isn't much role for trade ships in the game right now but that will eventually change. I own a C2 and for now it's just fun to pull it out of the hanger to run scrap and processed food. Other than that, it has no other purpose unless I want to buy a tonk.
C2 is gorgeous. Im saving up for MOLE and then Caterpillar myself.
The ingame cost of the CAT is about the same as the C2 (Cat about 4.6M aUEC and the C2 at 4.9 aUEC). For handling, speed, and largest planet side trading, you might want to look at the C2 instead of the CAT. I do like the CAT but flying it after running the C2 is like going from a luxury speed liner to a river barge with a tugboat.
The RORO (roll-on, roll-off) of the C2 is also really handy too
Checking in a bit. but listen to this. I pulled the last of my jobs that I could to fill my carrack. Sold 1.9M in stuff at Area 18 and went and bought my mole. My Money went from 5.9M down to .8M. I then bought some Lancette 2s. I just logged in and I am back to pre-selling ore wallet of 3.9M and also still have the mole
ah, so it wasn't a totally blindsided destruction of all your work. Glad you were able to make a quick rescue and also procure your ship before the jobs vanished.
okie dokie, so a good turn in what could have been ugly. Happy to hear that
yup yup! gonna use it to buy stuff for my ships
for the Free Fly users should be able to modify their ships, right? Because it is not a "rental" in the game sense of the word.
Yes, in a previous free fly I was able to change the mining head on a Prospector, which you obviously can't do on a rental
As I was hoping, that's good news for those who wanted to try mining then. So a ship for dog fighting and a ship for mining, they have the bases covered. The other 4 ships for quantity sake.
Pretty much, always glad when a mining ship is on the roster
likewise
Howd you get your money back, I also lose about 1.3 mill last night from selling before the patch
came on this morning back down to pre sale wallet and no refined quant or quant jobs. Was a double tripple whammy
I sold everything about 1:30pm Eastern so I think somewhere before that it snapshotted my wallet. Then pre-patch it snapshotted my inventory
Yeh same here I sold about 30 mins before the patch
ffs I just notices C2 got even more carge then CAT.
Is there anything CAT is better then the C2?
Ill probably get the CAT because I love how it looks and feels.
The Caterpillar is meant to be a modular ship. However, modularity is not in the game currently.
oh wow, C2 is better in every way and hold muuuch more fuel
aaaaaah there is it, thank you for explanation. I was wondering why would they just make a better straight replacement ship.
Do we know what kind of modularity? Just more or less cargo containers, or something completely different?
https://starcitizen.tools/Caterpillar#:~:text=The Drake Caterpillar is an,for being used by pirates.
When mining, what does (in)stability and resistance in a rock mean?
Caterpillar has long proven to be a reliable, cost-effective multi-role vessel, capable of being outfitted for everything from mercantile operations to combat support. Long hailed as a hard-fought alternative to the ubiquitous Hull series, the Caterpillar is a freighter that doesn't skimp on weaponry or customization.
Very nice!

thanks for the links 🙂
Instability is a measurement of a rock's ability to remain intact as mining energy is injected into it.
Resistance is a measurement of how rapidly a rock can absorb mining energy.
I would appreciate any inputs on these definitions, if anyone disagrees.
That's pretty much what it is summed up
So would a decrease in resistance make it easier for a less powerful laser to crack a rock?
Yes
ah, ok! thanks!
Be careful if you spend big aUEC on passive components because you loose those if there is a 30k
There are units that decrease resistance
I didnt know that 2 days ago and lost 200k
wondering why the hell that happened
I assumed only active ones are in danger
ouch! yeah, I lost a fair amount of aUEC until I decided that this "works as designed" was way too much of a risk and a crappy design, LOL
I am still a sucker for the passive module, FLTR-XL
I get enough use out of it before a 30K
oooh what now ... does anyone have problems with setting the refining jobs?
I just mined full prospect of quant but cant get anything from the dropdown menu
nope, tried to retrieve the ship and store it again but nothing is showing on the refining or the ore selling terminal.
Look at the raw ore sell terminal and see if the ship shows up there and what's in it
It takes a min sometimes also make sure your ship isnt impounded, it should allow it but Ive had issues with it not letting me tell I pay fines
can i take that Freeflight Prospector and change that beam so i can mine better rocks?
Think so
Can't say I've checked but I don't think they are like rentals
Nice now when I activate a module it makes the rock rescan so I can't see the gauge...
agreed. They are just added to your account, and don't act like normal rental ships IIRC
I've look at both terminals and both didn't show any ships at all in the menu. Now hour later I reconnect to the game and still nothing.
Landed with Prospector full with quant, ran to the terminal and stored the ship. Proceeded to the refinery terminals and nothing is showing up under Material Location menu
Ok, it More than likely the cargo blew up while you were in transit. One trick that you can do next time is that when you step out on the pad, do a suicide. That will auto store your ship right then
oh for fuck sakessssss
Has anyone figured out the scan results ?
lost another load grrrr
but if it exploded shouldn't I get a crimstat ?
Nah
Or just wait for it to be impounded you'll spawn right next to the ship terminal and your ship will be stored
Pay 5k fine ship is insta stored
I managed to store ship
I never needed to claim the ship back
the terminal just doesnt show cargo
Odd maybe they broke something when fixing the dupe
When you are on the pad and quintanium timer goes off, it will not destroy the ship. Instead it will only turn into inert material
But it could also be like tzar says
how much time do I have from when it starts to beep?
not the crazy critical beep, the first one
It varies
I've had to go straight to critical without any prior warning
But keep in mind you may have also found an issue with this latest patch
I didn't have critical at all and its highly doubtful it went kaboom in the time I needed to run to terminal
yeah, I'm going to take a bit time off the game today. Started to piss me off again 🙂
i sort of landed the other day at the wrong pad (to help someone out) and then went to go to my pad cause the alarm was going crazy and instead got squirrely and rammed into the station. Huge explosion and it kept my cargo. No idea how or why but those on the pad thought it was hilarious. I assume everything messed up because I am dumb. The other day I went to check my mobiglass and instead I held down W while trying to remember what key it was for Mobi (F1) and instead slammed into a roid and exploded. I am really love the dumb ways to die in this game
Last night I spent over an hour on Lyria looking for Quant in a dark mountain range. There were no significant rocks. Looked on Daymar, but found almost none whatsoever.
Not sure what all the guides I researched were talking about when they insisted significant quant rocks would be on the frequent side in certain locations. I could have been in the wrong spot, but I navigated carefully so I don't think so.
What's the reality in your experience overall? Is it more hit or more miss? Meaning - is mining more about getting lucky and finding stuff, or do you just need to wait a bit or a session and the next will likely have good options?
the range near SAL-2?
Yep
So how are you determining the amount of quint from the scan results my % is in the thousands and not showing inert material
That's the one that Hawkes swears by, I personally always mine in Arron's Halo between CRU-L1 and ARC-L3
Don't know what to tell you. My numbers were the polar opposite.
Tried that too, but the rocks wouldn't scan. Tried the EVA trick but no dice.
I wonder if CIG "adjusted" the spawn rate
Polar opposite?
Minimal quant and sometimes a bunch of inert
... If any quant at all
The scan issue is a server problem. I've had times when only 1 out of 7 would scan and then other times when every single asteroid would scan
Should I be looking at single rocks too? Or stick to pairs+?
Hmm... So keep trying unless a whole slew are bugged out. Tx.. M
That's another thing. 90% were solos
I've not had a chance to explore this x.1 patch. We shall see. I hope to get a chance this weekend
Wow, that's odd. I wonder if they did a refactor of spawning. I can only speculate
Well I hope you have better luck. I certainly hope my experience was just an intermittent circumstance
Does the persistence include activities like mining? Perhaps there was a quant rush and it was all mined out?
Yeah I noticed quant doesn’t spawn solo anymore
Good question, I know they link trade but as to resources that spawn, I don't know
that would be a bummer, so I would vote "No" on that because that would be splitting all the resources around on the servers
Well at least that's a relief to know...
So not just me then. Also good to know.
Few questions cause I just got a prospector; where should I go quantanium mining, does CRU L1 work, whats the timer on the quantanium and what mining head should I get for it?
check this out
https://space4games.com/en/games-en/star-citizen-mining/
damn I just had some simple questions on quantanium mining
this is a little outdated
yes
quant mining with default prospector might be hard
How often do you find good stuff?
thats a yikes had over a mil in orders yesterday rip
Also when I land at a station to sell quantanium
will my ship blow up still
if I don't store it in time?
yes
So when I land at a refinery, get to the ship pannel ASAP and despawn?
What about my other questions
apparently u can request to dock then exit to menu
and it will auto store ship
if u need to
or u can get it impounded and that works aswell
Mining head you should get a lancet
i believe its the best
CRU L1 might not be most optimum
I had some good success in Hur L3 but im sure there is a better spot
what is the best spot then
Quantanium has a 15 min timer
not sure
i saw a tiktok where someone jumped to arc corp from crusader maybe cant remember but then jumped out of QT at a certain point and he was surrounded by quant rocks
so there are spots everywhere u will have to look up a good spot for quant mining
yup, looks like it blew up between me parking the ship and storing it at the console.
Just went back in the ship to check on cargo, which was 0 and there was slight repair cost.
What happens if it wont let you store your ship?
If you're running quantanium then you basically end up with a load of inert trash and a damaged ship
Yes
oh shit
Also why do I have 3 sub item slots
Going to try that! If it's just a case of server hopping I'll be a happy man
so you can use 3 items 🙂
Are these mining modules 1 time use?
LOL, no promises with 3.14.1 ... it's been a dumpster fire so far
yes
None of em are permenent?
these are passive (get only size 1 for Prospector) and realize that if there is a 30K or you have to claim ship, you LOOSE them
Yeh, been on all day. Couldn't scan in the belt at all tried for like 3 hours. Theb moved to moon mining got one load, then got player killed. Considered eating computer.
sounds like my adventures
so confused
take your time, it will eventually become second hand
There are two types of attachments. Active and Passive. The active are all limited in use. The passive are always on, but have a small impact.
nevermind found stampede
Yeh really enjoy the mining path, but they are trying my patience haha
Do you lose the passive modules in a 30k?
Yes, you lose both
Whats the best refinery for quantanium
is there quantanium around CRU-L1
hold a second ... on phone then I'll post a quick guide
From CRU-L1, map a course to ARC-L3 and do a QT jump. AT 11.5M Km, kill your jump (I normally shut the engine off for fastest stop).
I thought is was more like 12.5km but it could be 11.5km too.
is ming around CRU-L1 not viable?
It's great for practice, but you're not going to make much bank there.
and the aaron halo is loaded with quantanium?
Noice! Hadn't seen this!
I can't take credit except being a hoarder of data
Yes, it has good ore
Alr and should I be able to get back in time with a stock QT drive?
So if can't scan in Aaron halo, just move to the next pair?
Plenty of time and yes, you will hit scan duds, just keep moving
I always break the asteroid all the way down, Map my QT jump point to CRU-L1, scoop it all and them QT back to station
Thanks. That's a relief
Good idea
the moment you scoop one bit of Quan, the timer starts. Let collection be the last thing you do
should I be fine with a stock QT drive?
You can't break more than 2 large asteroids as a rule because I have seen the ore expire and vanish after a certain amount to time
Yes, it will be fine. I prefer the Atlas or the VK-00 but the are pricey
They created charts for all the Lagrange points. You might can look them up from the watermark on the chart
is 10.7 km too far?
I over shot cause my QT drive wouldn't turn off
yeah it was too far
I QT'd back and found it
This is it right?
You are on the very edge. You have to kill the engines (U or I) or HOLD B for a quick kill. You can point back to CRU and kill it at 8.6
Looks about right. It varies in density in different parts.
Also why does it say things like 1000% and 400%
Move the decimal two places to the left
is that a bug?
Crud, so that is still hanging around
you will need to QT back to the station or risk a bed log to get rid of issue
can't exit my seat
or do anything
I just Alt F4'd
so quick question, refined ore sells for the same amnt as its commodity counter part yes?
What's the nature of the cursor bug? I'm sure I've seen it but I don't know by the name.
will sell for 76,000
it is the same thing so if there an issue with the terminals, it will effect miners selling their refined ore also
Where do you sell refined quantanium then?
I don't see quantanium at trade terminals
Anyone found a graphic like this which shows the general price differences in the mining processes too?
What site was this from? Maybe the prices were just cut off?
you sell at the TDD, not the admin office
Oh yah what solution should I use for quantanium
for most yield
a guide to solutions would work too
I don't care about time
I like Ferron the best so far.
Since patch 3.14 until this weekend I’ve found at most a full load of quant over the span of 3 mining trips with a bunch of quarts
Planet mining^
Haven’t really messed with space as halo isn’t loading for me
Bummer
When 1.14.1 dropped a couple days ago I was getting pure loads of quant in my Prospector, but it's much harder now. I don't know if that's just RNG or if the %s in asteroids go down with more players mining.
What do you mean by "harder?" - harder to find rocks with decent quant percentages?
For the Prospector, I greatly prefer asteroid mining to planetary mining. The rocks are too much of a hassle to break on Lyria for instance. I'd only prefer that if I was in a Mole with a couple friends.
I was also mining a lot more on the weekend then I was on the weekday so ninetails might of affected it
Since almost every server I was in 30k when idris spawns
Free Fly plus ninetails is going to kill servers. Not going to be a good sales pitch I bet.
If you are patient the general is use Dineyx?
16.20 % Quantanium good?
also theres a bunch of 2%'s next to it so how many asteroids should I mine before I start extracting
Yo WTF
I thought it had a 15 minute timer
Why did it go red immediatly
Fucking prospector had no fucking time to even get to the station
I extracted and it immediatly started blinking red
It's ok, but around 30% is what I try to get.
Never seen that happen. I do all roid cracking before I suck up the first spec of quant and then leave ASAP.
Thats what I did too
it said "volatile cargo detected"
red light started blinking
and boom
no warning what so ever
For me, I usually have about 5 mins to spend sucking up the quant and then a few minutes of QT travel and the warnings start in about the time I arive at CRU L1. Then I have at least 5 mins of warnings before boom time, maybe more.
I like Spectre over Atlas, VK-00 on Prospector for those short CRU-L1 ->ARC-L3 . The high quant.fuel requirement doesnt matter here (VK-00 has even more), it has better stage accel and almost 3x shorter power draw request time, which I always feel being snappier on any quantum drive tier
I got that to but jettisoned cargo in time before explosion.
I'll have to check out the Spectre then, sounds like a good QT engine to have on hand. Thanks
That has happened to me a number of times, very frustrating but part of the crazy loop dealing with Quan
Cool, I'll try the Spectre. I see it's at Area 18 and NB.
Wow, that acceleration is way better from the numbers.
As I'm new and I've only got a week until my free prospector goes away - should I spend auec on modules and an upgrad quantum drive or save the money and rough it so I can work towards new ships?
you don't really need to modules EXCEPT the better mining head.
I've already got the lancet head. Forgot to mention.
..just beware not to fly completely to ARC-L3, those 11,5m km like tripperdan99 keeps repeating are enough. I think Prospector has not enough q.fuel to come back to CRU-L1 or any other station from there. At least Beacon was that hungry when I was testing it.
OK. Tx
Yeah, it better to drop out at Aron Halo. You can do that with a Spectre or even a VK-00 so you can surely do it with the Beacon.
Trying to sell ore at a console in the refinery but nothing is pulling up for the source. What do I do?
cooldown is almost the same on Spectre/VK-00 according to erkul numbers, but I always feel the Spectre (or any short power draw request time ones) goes boom-boom-boom from one to another of these "short" quantum jumps. I have the same experience with S2 Sojourn which I was using for BH around Hurston
Also, hi Iva.
20%+
So it should be 2000% if I'm not wrong ?
Mhm
just having a hard time finding those rocks in the aaron halo
Anywhere else I could look?
Yeah, they are kinda rare
I usually mine in Lyria
But was in 3.13-3.13.1
Didn't try yet in 3.14
I've heard it's not as great as it was. Ppl were advising me to Aaron instead
You stopping at 11.5 km?
I was extracting a 100% quantanium rock when BEEP BEEP BEEP red light said I had 30 seconds to live
HOLY FUCK 80%
I need help ASAP which one do I trust the V scan that says 8000% or the M scan which says 11 %
vs the one thats 5000% and the M scan says 20%
@worldly trellis
@blissful oxide
I'd so go for M scan
alright
That doesnt tell anything about quant. purity in the asteroid. I go by the rule Quant.>Quartz=great rock, so if its like 5000% Quant+4000% its good, but vice versa 5000% Quartz +4000% Quant could be easily 5%+4%+91%Inert
nice tips thanks !
as said, didn't try mining since 3.14 yet, you heard people saying there is *100
But as you said, it might not just be that
Is it 8000%Quant + 2000%Quartz ??
Interesting. CIG clawed back the money. I am down to 4K instead of 3.9M. I can't complain, it was fun while it lasted
Why do they feel the need to ramp up the grind for decent stuff? Shiny stuff I understand, but c'mon!
Grind to stuff ratio should be an exponential curve
If you landed your ship with a load of raw Quantainium and didn't stow immediately, then it probably went boom
which method of refining produces the most quantanium?
I was told Dinyx is this true?
ello
How do I switch scanning modes? All I see is a "Carrying" tab when I thought I was supposed to see a "Composition" tab?
All the numbers are inflated to hell, I thought I was looking for 30%
And now my scanning mode isn't scanning anything, wtf
Mining Calculator, Trade, Prices, Risks, Profitability, Mass to SCU Converter, Ships List, SCU, Prices and more
I like Ferron best so far. It's just as efficient is Dynx but trice as expensive and twice as fast.
Actually when I'm starting a new bunch of mining I'll start out with Dynx and then go to Ferron half way through.
That way I deliver every couple of days.
It about delivery time for me. Will have a million+ from this load if all goes well.
Is there a way to filter what you extract?
In this tutorial this guy only has quant in his hold
Nope other than what fragments you suck and the modules you pick to reduce inert.
Any insight on my previous question?
That's because he most likely go a rock which was like 40% quant.
Yeah, how do I see that percentage?
You can filter by taking 100% purity chunks only 🙂
I'm completely daft to this, I have no idea if that's sarcasm or not
You just have to do it a few times. It will be clear.
Has there been balancing in the amount of minerals in eatch rock? Or is it just mee?
Atleast on quant?
And now my scanner just won't work
Do not all asteroids have materials? Cause I started mining just for practice and the bar never started filling
Correct
There's a lot of asteroids around Yela and Grim-hex that are literally just there to make it look cool
But ones that show up from a ping?
Ohhhh, you see the percentages while in mining mode, not scanning
Holy shit, how do I do this?
You can see percentages in scanning buy holding mouse 1. if it does not scan then skip it, the rock is being dumb and is prolly a ghost
If I put VK-00 on my prospector, do I need to change any other components? Cooling?
Oh okay, so the normal scanning mode is totally useless
I've been thinking that too. There's either been balancing or an increased number of players doing it makes the spawn percents go down.
Doubt it for that. Watch the gas gauge with that one. You can get stranded.
kk
mining and extraction mode on youre righ mouse buttom when activated mining mode with m.
normal gas or QT gas?
QT
ah no worries, I will use it for short QT mining trips only. but thanks
It's fine to go to the halo from cru l1 but not all the way to arc l3
hehe fun
Im doing ARC L1 - Lyria mostly
I was doing Lyria but I hate the bigger rocks. To hard to crack and require surges most the time. To many fragments which land on top of one and other. A pain!
i like planet/moon mining better .. things fall down kinda..;D
My scanning mode is just not working. It's 50/50 if I ever get a signal, and then I can never start scanning
yeah, 4500-5000mass rocks/asteroids in the verse with 30%+ Quant is enough for Prospector to Quant-pure-fill + easy to break. Dont like smaller chunks over each other on the ground either.
How do you pure fill?
Okay, my scanner is completely broken.
I found a really nice patch, too.
That 30%+ content of Quant in the rock provides almost everytime enough 100% chunks after braking, so you just pick them without any inert.
I like the planet mining more as well, it just looks gorgeous.
slow down, and find the spot on the rock.
..an example: Quant<Qartz
Quant>Qartz
My signal is maxed out, but mouse 1 does nothing
optimal range about 30 m?
left mouse button and scroll power?
mining mode. find the spot on the rock so that the hud stays stabile
I think you can start stream here and show what are you doing to Goofy
Goofy's helping me, I'm the one having the issues
two sec
I'm just gonna restart and verify
im making a channel for a stream in here if you want to see a quick run?
I have a lot of problems with scanner myself. Luckily I dont use it at all when mining.
but sometimes it just refuses to work and that's it
Don't you need to scan to be able to mine the given rock?
Also - how would you be able to determine the composition so you know if the rock's worth it?
not with a scanner. I look for the ore in pair which means its quant, then just come close and check it directly with mining arm
press tab, like just give it a tap ;D that sets of the ping, scanner is on V and is no longer a part of the ping
Right, I use that to find the clusters, but do I need to ping in order for the scanner to work?
no
yup, happened to me in the past as well. Not sure what is the cause or is there way to fix/workaround it.
What are the best Quantanium mining locations in 3.14?
Aaaand it's broken again
Was working when I first started, and now I can't scan anything again
Lyria
Sur-2 on Lyria near a dark mountain range, also Aaron's Halo
Yep, scanning is completely broken for me. I've spent all day trying to do this and have literally only lost money
Welp, back to boarding action
Are you scanning with the V key scanning or the mining head?
I've tried both
Even the mining head scanning is broken but it's probably not as broken as the V key scanning. For instance when the mining head scanning gets broken form me I can click M twice to put the head away and pull it back up. That usually helps.
I have dug through Google and cannot find anyone having the same issue
I've tried resetting the modes, cycling ship power, getting out of my ship and back in. Nothing
It is infuriating, especially since nobody else is experiencing this
If you want to share your screen, maybe I can help.
Well, give me 10 minutes because I have to claim my prospector now
I'll give you 25 mins. I need to go get a bite.
I’ve experienced unscannable rocks before, the solution was to wait for them to become scannable
Sometimes I would fly away and then back to fix it, but waiting usually does the trick
Think about how long it sometimes takes for bounty targets to appear - my SWAG guess is that the same queue system is impacting/slowing both functions
player gets <25km near bounty: bounty takes 10s-1min to actually spawn
I've never had a late bounty
Interesting. If that's what @fleet gulch is talking about, then I have seen the problem and what @desert loom just said is my solution too. That or finding a different roid. It's a bug for sure.
I waited in the same spot for 15+ minutes while googling a solution
Never became scannable
Most of the time I fly away and find another roid and/or jump to a different server. I have to say I'm seen a huge increase in it happening since the last patch. Don't know if it's the patch or the increased number of players.
Well resetting, claiming the ship, and flying to the same spot takes like 20 minutes, and I've literally gotten nothing done today.
So this is the last shot I'm giving it
Is every roid that way for you or just some of them?
All of 'em
If you’re going to the same spot every time it could be a bugged rock
What server regions have you tried?
Might try UE and/or AUS. Also, it may be your network/router/network card etc. How long have you been playing SC?
ffs, what year do they plan on fixing the mining/extraction using the Roc. This is crazy! Do any devs play the game to see all the fucking bugs…jesus
Around a week now
I have not had any network issues at all aside from serverside 30ks like everyone else
When I started playing I was having a bunch of bugs that other player weren't having (or weren't having nearly as much) and then I fiddled with some network settings and it helped a lot.
Maybe reboot your router for starters if you haven't done that in a while?
have ya'll been having 30k's with 3.14.1??
I was logged into a server for like 5 hours yesterday
I've had more than with 3.13 for sure.
The Free Fly will make 30ks more common for the next few days.
It just always does.
Maybe there's more session churn due to more player coming and going on servers? Who knows?
Which place is good to grind mining ect.
depend what you want to mine
I would still submit an Issue Council report. Be sure to turn on r_displaysessioninfo 1
I also had an issue where two of my ships would never repair until I did a reset on my account
How do I reliably hover on Lyria?
Also black cubes keep rising out of the ground and completely obscuring my view
Also I'm stuck in my prospector seat
anyone know if you can clean the glass or something cuz i cant see shit
also 6 quant rocks and none of them are scannable 😦
Oh thank god, at least someone else is having this problem
Don't forget to contribute!
https://issue-council.robertsspaceindustries.com/projects/STAR-CITIZEN/issues/STARC-3966
Well, wear and tear is, but we can give our feedback 😄
Going from pristine to totally banged up in a short while seems a bit excessive 😛
Just go into mining mode
They auto-scan
Though, do report the fact you can't scan normally so it gets fixed
Oh you are in mining mode

guys i refined something and put cargo in ship and i have more to refine and when i select material location i dont see nothing
I had the same problem. I was told earlier by someone here (more than one IIRC) that other rocks might work - it's not all or nothing.
I finally got some ore, but now my ship isn't showing up in the refinement terminal?
And now I've looked at it in my ship loadout manager and it says it has no systems installed?!? What the FUCK!
Relogging does nothing
I figured it out. So doing the impound trick destroys your vehicle and cargo. Don't do it. Land and store the ship normally.
I've literally wasted all day with this shit
welcome to alpha testing
I guess that trick is dead
its half and half on it, sometimes it works others it doesnt
any good cargo runs to do during 3.14
From my experience today, no, it's like setting your soul on fire
Once you understand the bugs in the system currently, it's pretty good, though can be sad sometimes when you find too much quant and can't carry it all
thats why you grab the org bois and have them bring the mole
Man whole clusters of unscanable asteroids which show as minable is very annoying! It wasn't this bad in 3.13 was it?
@urban sky yes
its solid
you can make like 250k a run
after refining
if you need help getting into mining i can show ya.
noticing alot more unscanable rocks now. took almost an hour to find 1 Quant rock but that's also rng I guess
I understand a lot of the bugs but maybe not all. Give us you wisdom on the major ones to understand.
- When you scan for Quant, look at the instability, If it's over 6.5, then check if it has Borase in it. If it has Borase, then anything above 7.5 is good. If it does not have Borase, then anything above 6.5 is good. Scan with your mining laser to get exact %
- Many consumables will force a re-scan. I recommend using a Brandt and a Surge right as you start, and then no others. Use your favorite passive for the 3rd consumable slot
- Keep an eye on your laser, as the wobbling may cause it to slide off the rock. Adjust back to the center if needed to prevent a re-scan
- Look at the top of the scanner circle as you start scanning a rock. If 'Scanning' doesn't start flashing in red within 2-seconds, it's a bad rock cluster, so move on.
How much will the refinery store for me?
I set the StarRunner as my storage, but it seems like I'll be running out of space very quickly
I don't think there's a limit to how much the refinery will hold onto, it just gets wiped whenever a patch is deployed, so best to not leave anything sitting there for long.
I try not to haul more than 100 SCU at a time, just to mitigate losses from 30k, pirates, or my own shitty flying skills.
Is there a workaround to the mining scanning bug?
i dont think so. the scanning bug is in the game since a long time. About 1 year ago I already had that..
Yesterday I found like 20 astroids and 15 of them were not scannable.. was the worst run yet -.-
No i meant the bug where the scanner resets so you don't see the mining gauge in the middle of mining.
Don't reset the beam, just scroll down all the way real fast like
Like you're scrolling through a user agreement.
I filled a C2 over two thirds with refined minerals once. That was a lot of work at 32 SCUs or under per load.
Does slam sales happen server wide?
because when I went to go sell it only let me sell 1 unit
All stocks are share between all servers
Where's the hotspot for Quant for prospector mining atm?
Arc L3 or Lyria in Arcorp
Thanks.
IS there a certain rock statistic i'm looking for before i mine it and start that 15m cool down?
Not sure I understood that,😅yes you’re looking for the rock’s that look like quant rock’s. Kinda “blackbrownyelloworange” rock thing🙈sry
15m cooldown?
I mean, what rock statistic determines that Quantanium to be good? Instability? Mass? Density? Stuff like that.
Ohh,, sry😋 well,, depends on what pace you want to mine in I guess. If you like to take you’re time, go for the stabile stuff,, if you like to make money? Go for quantanium,, but that’s a lot harder too👌🖖
A Prospector has 32scu witch is 1600kg,,so you need more then 1600 of mass pr.mineral in the rock you want to crack kinda if you want to fill it
That part of trading is still broken as a result of the glitches that made people cheating ritch. They had to stop that, but it broke all training for now.. well almost..
whack
Can help changing server.
made the mistake of buying that much
like re logging? or changing from USA server to Asia or something
Yep,, in the end I cut my losses and just blew up my ship to reclaim it. Never ending thing trying to sell. If you find somewhere that’s buying that,, plz share🙏🏼
well the thing is
That’s a lot tho
Ohh ohh
Then I guess you need to start moving from planet to planet to sell at all places possible m8t..
honestly think I'll lose money in fuel
That suck’s. I have an open spot In the left turret in the M.O.L.E ? 100k or.run as operator??
dude I'd suck some toes for money
I had the MOLE before getting my cat
So I'm down
its an invite link for here lol
I have the Lancet with Stampede and Surge on the Prospector now. But could I also combine the Helix with two Vaux modules of the biggest size? This would decrease instability by atleast 50% while keeping the Helix power.
I didn't try this but keep in mind if you crash your ship or get a 30k and have to claim your ship in any way ... the Vaux is gone and you need to buy new ones.
Damn, thanks for the advice
pleasure
My first try at mining, guessing it's going to be worth next to nothing but I enjoyed the experience, like how interactive the process is.
Sheeeesh biggest rock I have found today is like 20% quant... What's going on
Belt btw not on planet
20% is actually better than ~85% of the rocks out there
https://sc-trade.tools/deposits/Asteroid (Q-Type)
It's just random luck 🙂
Maybe I've just been spoilt haha
quant doesn't go higher then 50%? nice info
The biggest I've seen was 47%
yeah me to, something around that
I just notices the volatile cargo timer on my prospect, was that there this whole time?
Only when you have mining mode on
dude I must have been blind, never noticed it up until now
Took me awhile to notice it, too, as eyes are always on the mining bar with occasional glance at the cargo read-out. I do wish that info showed all the time, rather than just the vague alarm, but ah well.
its super useful, I hit M to check on the time as Im docking
so... for mining quant, am i better off with a helix on my prospector?
Lancet with a Brandt consumable will mine almost any Quant rock, save for the largest planet-side ones. Those require at least 2 lasers. But for Lagrange and Aaron Halo, Lancet/Brandt will always do it.
prospecter was the first ship i savd to buy and i've never been able to get on with it or mining at all, but mining seems to be all the rage this patch. is it worth giving another shot then?
It's a pretty complicated system and the mini-game isn't for everyone, but once you adjust to it you can make bank pretty fast. Definitely look up some 3.14 mining guides due to the wonkiness of the bugs.
alright will do, cheers
think its been adjustment for minerals in rock's, so now its not as easy to grind out millions alone.. need a Mole now ;D and a crew
I found two 45% Quant rocks in the Halo yesturday. Definitely still out there, just hard to find.
how long does it take roughly to come accross a decent enough rock worth mining? Previously (what put me off of it) I could spend literally hours not finding anything worth anything
Just flying around and pinging can go from an immediate find to finding nothing but junk for a long time. Pure luck.
Though if you use the visual method, you can find quant rock clusters within a few minutes, and while they don't always contain a 20%+ rock, they usually do.
In this video I'm going to show you how search for Quantanium clusters, or any type of mineable asteroids, in the Aaron Halo using a visual scanning method with a much greater range than the scanning ping. I've had great success with this method and use it exclusively when mining in the belt!
If you want to learn how to mine in Star Citizen, or...
how do i use mining modules
I tried this few times and was for me 50:50. I either found a cluster with 1 good rock or cluster, that wasnt scannable 🙂 . It was a nice experience to look for minables visually, not pinging all the time, but I dont have a need for this anymore when we can in 3.14 get a "data" of the asteroids from 4,5km already in contrast of 2km previously.
Oh yes, I find unscannable clusters with this method quite often. Makes me wonder if the unscannable asteroid bug has something to do with Quant specificly.
Still, I went on two runs yesturday, both netting over 75 SCU of ore each, with only 10-20 minutes spent finding the cluster.
There are two types: Passive and Consumable.
Passive are always working, nothing need to be done, but are far weaker.
Consumable are used via Alt+1, Alt+2, Alt+3 while mining. You'll see what you have installed (Installed via the ship manage screen) on the left side of the mining interface, with the top item being Alt+1
could be luck too 🙂 I found a good rock right upon arrival from quantum travel earlier, it was literally the first rock I looked at. It all depends.. +clusters are not a certainty that they contain quant/good enough quant purity. I´ve found those great 40%+ ones as solo-rocks or pair of rocks too, mostly pairs now
I've seen 40%+ solo, in pairs, and part of a large cluster. Just seems to be entirely random for quant rocks. But the fact that Quant rocks always spawn closer to each other when in clusters makes them easier to find with the zoom method.
i'm gonna give that a try, seems simple enough. just needs practice for recognition i guess
yeah ...I have a same experience + on top of that, when I find some asteroid with quant in it (doesnt matter how much %), I take it as a quant zone, imagining it as a large asteroid shattered there = scan everything around up to +-10km and theres almost everytime (would rate it 85-90%) that 40%+ good one.
What's the lowest quant % you guys would spend time on instead of moving on to the next?
35%+ and when I cant find something good for too long I take 25%+ and GTFO from there 😄 ...Prospector
when I find 40%+ I´m certain I´m getting from there with pure-quant cargo = the rock contains enough 100% quant sub-chunks
30% is pretty much my soft lower limit, unless I have limited time and am having crap luck, then I'll go for 20% just to have something to take home to mommy refinery.
are there different types of lancet heads?
Only the two sizes. Prospector can only mount the Lancet I. MOLE can mount both.
Move on. About 20-30% of asteroids are just duds. Can't scan, can't target.
fk that rock man!
I move a bit when it happens, get closer and change angle. Work sometimes
If you find quant-duo-rocks and one of them isnt readable with scan or mining head, try to wait lil bit. Sometimes they "get alive", desync maybe. ...but totally not worth to wait too long
are QT generators bugged? just swapped for a VK-00 in my prospector and feels the same speed
What did you have before?
On a short jump, unless you have a Spectre, you may not see much of an increase.
doing 5Mkm will i see an increas there
have any of yall run into an issue where you can't scan or mine quantanium asteroids?
Common issue, yes. Just have to leave those and continue searching
all three groups of quant asteroids that I have found have been unscannable/unminable, is that normal?
I always encounter numerous unscannable rocks when mining, yes. Just gotta leave them be and keep going
ok cool, thanks for the info
Does anyone else find trading extremely hard now?
I buy a load of supply go to sell and the demand is stupid low
and with it being synced across all servers makes it even worse
what and where should I be mining with a stock prospector?
most asteroids I come across are too hard for it to break
same with rocks on planets
you just here for the freeflight event?
https://space4games.com/en/games-en/star-citizen-mining/
This is a good guide
and as for stock prospector, identify what Ore are profitable and start trying what you can extract exactly
in my stock prospector i went for diamond and above but if u cant consistently mine borase your money per hour will be kinda rough tbh
Does anyone else find trading extremely hard now?

ye trade is bad atm
guessing ur using the trade tool?
favourite places for quant? been using HUR L3 is the halo better or any other places?
Yeah tried to use one checked all the routes before even trying and the demand is stupid fucked
spend an entire day sitting at a terminal just to sell
looks like a trade is a no go
someone said they balance around what they want testing the most
and trade is pretty easy doubt they want that much testing
A year ago trade was so easy
maybe they changed the prices of something new and nobody is saying anything for the advantage?
or how does the trade tool actually update the prices?
trade is broken because every single star citizen server shares the same supply and demand
that means if you have a ton of people buying X item, it will forever be out of stock
and if you have a ton of people selling X item, that shop inventory will forever be full
the amount of goods present in the economy is wayy too small for number of players
I agree to that statement
its probably the same with refineries, they are overused now. Mine is over 50000% or something like that
It’s been calibrated this way after to many was taking advantage of a the system bee “glitchy” rich. It will get better,, sometime,,in the future😅🖖
They nerfed it way to hard I think
True
Are refined ores shared between stations, or is it only at the station you refined at?
Where you refined it at.
They are not shared
Specific to eatch station👍
k thx
one time I find the 40% quant without scanning for ages ... game crashes.
And in the middle of scooping as well, after all the hard work is done.

anyone know the best cargo to be hauling with a taurus?
is there a way i can check what i have in my cargo bay
If you find the answer to that let me know. The only ways I know of are at the time a put it in and at the time I go to the TDD and select the ship to sell the goods. Other than that I can see a genaral amount of cargo expressed as phyical SCU boxes in the ships hold, but that doesn't tell me what's in them.
If the TDD is not accepting it, you can wait a while and it should regen some demand over time I think. It sucks.
I usually have the most problems with them not accepting quantanium.
i've tried 2 different places so far...
Wait, are you talking refined or unrefined?
refined
Well there's only four places to sell any refined minerals isn't there. The four capital cities right? Area 18, Loreville, New Babbage and Orison.
i'm at new babbage
At the TDD right?
What's better for cracking rocks? Raising laser power, or lowering rock resistance?
Okay, that's what I was wondering. Thanks
Seems like at the start of 3.14.1 I was getting many 30%+ quant roids in Aron Halo and ARC L3 and within a day or so that all went away. Now most of what I get or duds which won't even scan and at best occasional 15% quant roids. Did CIG nerf it on us or did it nerf itself from over mining?
I know I could head to Lyria, but I really don't enjoy mining the bigger rocks on the surface.
Anyone have any pointer to either get better roid in belts or to make cracking rocks on a moon surface more enjoyable?
yeah in the commons
A friend scanned this roid and it may have a higher quant % than I've ever seen. Is that 69% quant?
The mass seems quite low though. Are these number complete BS? I know the decimal point location is wrong but...
@delicate girderNo, the display from the scanner is deceiving us... while it is actually displaying 69% and not 6900%, the 69% is way too high. you can fairly accurately predict the amount of quantanium in an asteroid or rock by looking at the instability of the rock, altough it is confounded if the rock also contains borase, as borase contributes to instability. I made a spreadsheet showing the relationship between instability and quantanium content: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T1apxXHtyQyvDoTMkkiRsK2SrCqbz772Ne140WAzgnU/edit?usp=sharing
Calculate value of quantanium asteroid
Determining value of quantanium deposits/asteroids without access to a mining turret,If you want to use this spreadsheet for yourself, go to File, and then Make a copy
Cutoff value,50000,aUEC,If no Borase in the asteroid/deposit
What is the mass of the depo...
works very well for asteroids and rocks without any borase, works fairly well for rocks containing more quantanium than borase, but does not work for rocks containing more borase than quantanium (atm)
based on the numbers displayed, I predict 3.3% quantanium in that rock, and quite a bit of inert material.
a mining turret will give you the true percentages
the new scan mechanic does not factor in inert material in the rock, it only displays the relative weight of the minables
my first ever haul of Quantanium, docked at CRU L1 with 3 minutes left WITH an illegal blockade happening lol
that was pretty damn fun
exciting
I had a feeling that was the case. I've been using the mining head to scan, but that wasn't my roid so I couldn't scan it. Thanks
What makes more money, cargo or mining
Like if you had an Argo mole for mining and a C2 for cargo, which would make more
Cargo is dead currently. There's not nearly enough trade goods or demand to make money with it, and that's been the case for several patches.
You definitely don't need a C2 to haul the refined ore for a MOLE. Freelancer MAX or Taurus are good for this
yep
mining makes around 100 times as much UEC as hauling; that's not an exaggeration either
bounty hunting arguably makes the most money out of any career atm, though mining can make a ton as well if you know what you're doing
what's the highest percent of inert materials I should mine?
like, if a chunk has over 50% it usually seems not worth mining because it fills up your hold so fast
as little as possible. i only mine quantanium and only take rocks from 25% and up of quant. I crack all rocks containing quant and when I suck em in I take the ones with the highest quant and lowest rest first. Once my cargo is almost full I take stones with more crap inside.
Quant spawns have been greatly nerfed. The halo is shit now
I have noticed the same on Lyria
Seen any solid evidence for that? I've noticed the same, but not sure if it's just confirmation bias
I spent almost all day in the halo yesterday and didn't find a single rock over 14%
Quant mining will be hauling tiny loads back to refine if it stays like this.
For alternatives, I rarely see agrecium or hadanite anymore
Is there anything else that makes money? Without the aUEC reward, it kind of ruins the enjoyment of mining.
Sorta like the problem with cargo hauling, makes the activity pointless.
