Caterpillar full of Laranite is 1.5mil investment. Hull-C has (on paper) 8x cargo space of Cat. Thats quite investment into one run with current game mechanics. But I don´t see it comming to the surface, more a between stations runner.

Hey guys, long time SC backer who is finally trying to "Get into" mining.
I've read some older guides and wanted some player's input, am I better off Hand mining, ROC mining or trying for a prospector/mole?
I tried the mole out in space during the free fly and didn't make too much cash but it seemed okay, recently been trying ROC mining on magda and it just doesn't seem worth it since most of the minerals I find can't be cracked by the small ROC, I spent like, 4 hours getting a Cutlass, landing to get a ROC aboard, finding ores I could actually mine and getting it back and I only made like, 30k credits.

You really did yourself a disservice trying to solo the MOLE as a mining newbie. The Prospector is the business for solo ship mining, not least because the mining head is slaved to the pilot’s controls rather than a separate seat. Find rocks with a good percentage of valuable materials, mine them and fill your ship with as little inert/cheap crap as possible, then take it to one of the L1 stations to refine. Repeat until you’ve refined enough to fill your cargo ship of choice, then haul it off to Area 18, New Babbage, or Lorville to sell. Make bank. Pad your account enough to withstand a couple 30k trading incidents., and fly safe.

Is the ROC actually worth it over the prospector? I keep hearing how great it is vs ship mining but even just finding small enough ore deposits was a nightmare

For me, ROC+ship vs Prospector is comparable in spent time/profit as long as the Prospector is mining anything else but Quantainium. There is his strenght. With ROC you have to search for Hadanite only and I was stopping by min. 3 rocks group with high % of the mineral inside.
...but Mole with min. 2 ppl, better 3 is another story 😄

oh, that had to be about something else, dont own Cat. Was using my own ROC and rented Cutlass Black. ..Mole. When using 2 mining lasers/drills, you have an advantage of combining their properties, characterics and the mining process is easier. ...I´m not an owner, just employee when the money is needed 😄
..I think, we have Helix + 2x Lancet equiped (again, not the owner) reducing the Instability, Resistance A LOT that way and making the OptimalChargeWindow bigger. Lancet is drilling on its minimum, just powered on, Helix doing its job.

I would recommend 2 Impacts + lancet on the mole because the impacts have almost as much green zone increase as the Lancet + they increase fracture rate to balance out the -30% on the lancet.

Listed cargo on ROC does not necessarily mean that its physically there. Had something similar with Prospector - the sell/buy kiosk saw the cargo, had an option to "Sell" but error popped out. I would be mining again by that 3days time rather than wait for some magic

Mining with prospector is more fun though. Buuuut to get max out of it you need to dig, refine, deliver refined product to city, sell to trading console

its a net loss overall compared to pre 3.12 mining

This is fun. Made a 30 min quick run with ROC just to see how things go with Aquila. All is still on same level of glitchiness. If you do it right, it's fine.

You can only really get one rock or cluster of Q without blowing up.
Also, you can shave time by storing your ship as soon as you land, so it doesn't explode while you're waiting for the Refinery deck elevator.
Volatiles are stable in deep storage.

Best spots to find quantum are on moons around micro Tech, but best refinery is CRU L1 so I would recommend to mine around Yela or Aron asteroid belt

You mine on a moon or in space, you go to an L1 lagrange point, head to the refinery deck, head through to the services area, up the stairs and to a refinery terminal, select your ship, press "set up a work order", select what you want to refine, select the method you want to use and then press "start" @azure prawn

I noticed that the terminals work just fine if I leave my ROC on the garage pad (after requesting a landing clearence from the ROC)
The terminals don't seem to work if I store the vehicle.

Its either an appreciable or depreciating affect on a specific ore you choose to refine at that station
If you went to a refinery that had a +6% for Copper, you would gain 6% more refined Copper than you would if you refined it somewhere else

400k for every one in about 3 hours so not great not terrible but it was fun and mine quantum with 3x Lancet head is ridiculousy easy ☺️

Nope starting the job will clear your prospector cargo and you can fly for another pack of minerals
The timer on refinery job runs even if you are offline or on server crash are your jobs safe

I just do hadanite. Full loaf every time. Takes me about 1h each run and (if the terminal works on the first stop). That nets me 250k (includes the brem suit 100 hadanite) totaling to 900 pieces of hadanite. I stop only for 3 and more rocks too.

Unfortunetly Laranite is only generated at a rate of 5-20 SCU/min (https://sc-trade.tools/commodities/Laranite), and that's across all servers!
You can try the "alternative commodities" [button] (https://i.imgur.com/OGiEvFW.png), or something that is produced in bulk instead (https://bit.ly/3rQXkH4) 😦

I think once we have more systems to spread trading across and get to play with more commodities and more of that "import-export" kind of demand, cargo in general will be firstly more profitable and secondly easier as not everyone will be fighting over one systems worth of goods. We could also end up seeing BMMs parked purchasing goods locally from players to export enmass to other systems.

Does going in red area of a rock "reduces" the overall quality of the rock while spliting ?
I've observed many piece can disappear if it splits while there's still red charge in the rock, but is the rock "intact" if I wait the red to totally deplete, or did I waste a good rock no matter what I do after charging red...?

As far as I know, going into overcharge simply causes the rock to explode more when cracked. Some chunks may be lost to the planet if they are ejected towards the ground and clip.

Overcharging causes the rock to explode more, which results in damage and the broken chunks being flung further

If you overcharge you run the risk of killing yourself aswell if you're mining in a prosp or mole
Its fine if its low overcharge, I would just back away slowly

ok i see. If that's not too much for you gl ^^ There are nice people in the verse which will share their 890j with you if you ask them. And you can fly it on free flight events. Keep that in mind if your setting yourself the goal to grind the most expensive ship in the game.

I've tried parts of aaron halo, both around Hur-L4 and by Hurston, tho closer to Delamar and micro tech I had better luck, Herd CRU-3 was good? by Crusader system and the sun and daymar.. ive heard people finding 12 plus asteroids all 40-50% quantainium in 1 group..
