The scanning strat as I understand it is: Use 180 degrees to find all sources in front of you. Then zoom in with lower angle on each one to scan at a further distance to get more detail to see if rock/roid is bugged (not scannable/mineable) and to see size and some detail

And it's hard to do because you have to aim very accurately

If you don't have a Prospector, rent a ROC. If you'll check out Red Monster SC on YT, he has a video on getting started with ROC mining. You will need to rent a Cutlass Black also if you don't have a ship that can carry a ROC. The new outer R&R stations offer the rental for way less than the established Refinery stations.

Trade only favors the largest of ships at this time. Not in a great place for small cargo ships like the Connie

Right now the ROC has a bug so you can fill it beyond its default capacity. So you get ROC-DS storage at a ROC bottom price.

I made about 300K in a couple of trips doing ROC mining

Also, when at the station spawning your ROC, be sure to check the other buildings for loot boxes. There is water and food in them that will make the work easier. Also multi-tools with attachments, etc

There's a chart somewhere, which has the start/stopping points, but I know a lot of those charts are just wrong. I usually start at ARC L1 - point to Hurston, then drop out of quantum at 13,500K away form Hurston.

I find Roc mining fairly relaxing but it was very dependent on which ship I was using to haul it around in. The Nomad was too much trouble so I stayed with the Cutlass Black

When I couldn't afford anything else it did the job. I just did not like all of the work everytime I stopped to mine. Get out, lower cargo, get in roc, drove off. Mine. Back in to cargo bay. Get out. Close Cargo. Get in ship.

The biggest thing is that instead of cargo magically appearing in your ship, it will have to be manually loaded and unloaded. And I'll be real physical objects instead of the "props" we currently have. It'll also open up the opportunity for actual piracy, since the cargo will be a thing that can be taken.

when you get in your prospector after it has been stored, hit V, which goes to scan mode, zoom in. I do not know how much this does but it probably helps. Also hit the . button (not numpad) to decrease the cone to 179*, this means it scans a bit better but only in front of you and to the sides, not behind.
fly around with your mining lazer out, point it at close rocks when they go from box with distance to just a diamond shaped white marker (should happen between 3 and 4k)

if a single box turns into multiple diamond shaped icons, it is ALWAYS a quant deposit. Only quant (on Lyria at least) can spawn in groups of 2 or more.

The Hull A is like the golden standard for all future ship interiors. It packs so much into such a tiny frame and provides you with a large hab area with all the needed amenities AND still having enough room for a large bathroom.

What would you say is a good percentage of a valuable mineral (QUAN, bexa, Tara, etc..) to find in one of those large boulders?

For example, I just scanned one and it had 2% Lara in it. Would you say that is worth it?

For quant, you only have time to mine one rock since it explodes after 15min, so you want something that will hopefully come close to filling your hold (32 SCU)

so you're looking for 20-25% + quant

2% is not worth it

Multiple players have confirmed the issue @marble crater had. (I confirmed it 4 times today myself), each time I had a perfect load of QT in my Prospector, arrived at the station with plenty of time left on my timer and was flying very slow as I approached the hanger to land and my cargo instantaneously became unstable and my ship blew up.

From the Issues Council, this bug seems to be impacting Moles and Prospectors.

All have confirmed, including myself, that there was plenty of time left on their timer and they did not have a hard landing. I, myself, had no warning, when my cargo became unstable and blew my ship up as I entered the hanger. I hadn’t even landed my ship.

Any workarounds for transferring my personal refinery work orders to my company mates cargo ship?

None at the moment. The only way for you to share in a mining run is to pay your teammates ahead of time, or let them scoop the mineable material in their own ship and let them refine it on their own. Once a work order is created, only the player who created the work order will be able to collect the refined materials and they will only be able to put the refined material cargo in one of their ships to sell.

The good news is that this is supposed to change when the cargo refactor comes (which I believe is slated for 3.18)

Mole & Prospector lasers are the same power. I f you know how to do it in a Prossy (surge/stampede) you can do it in a Mole. I f you don't know how just keep looking and look for a 5T rock instead

no, the mining is just like lyria, but asteroids don't go above 5.2k mass so you don't need modules. the scanning is also different--you can tell what type an asteroid is at up to 12km away
