And is your friends on Android? DML doesn't support cross-platform play so you can't be friends with anyone not on your platform

And the limit of visible friends is 200 (you can accept 100 gifts per day). If/when you remove anyone on the visible list, then hidden friends start to appear. If you have inactive players on your list, after about 60 days of inactivity they'll disappear from the list but will reappear automatically if they login in the future

You said your friend sent you a request and you accepted "but we cannot be friends". What, exactly, were you expecting to be able to do? You can't see your friend on your list? Your friend can't see you? You can't visit each others islands?
