Well, they farm the bosses till they have enough mats for all chars they are interested in.
Nowadays, that's like 6 units per boss.
Assuming you are on average interested in half, you need up to 54 boss drops, though more realistically less than 40.
That means, at most, you should farm a boss for 5 months

His other alternative is heart of depth, but it's overall less damage from his normal attacks but instead more burst damage. I don't care for my burst damage as much, plus I have godly gladiator pieces which saves me thousands of resin grinding for a different set
