Well there are 2 main reasons to credit someone as I see it
One, as thanks for something given as a gift, to promote their work (likely commission based), or two, a way to shout-out someone who sold you a quality piece of art for the same reason as above, to boost commissioned sales
If you already own the artwork as it was officially made by an employee, neither of those really apply

Which is what makes it a bit interesting, at least imo
