If I may build on this, it's like a weighing scale. Basically, you require skill + resources (good chars / weaps / artifacts) on both sides in order to clear abyss.

It's not an "either" "or" kind of situation. If you have slightly more skill (or knowledge of mechanics), it can make up for poorer artifacts for e.g., and vice versa. So it isn't something like "you need to have good team compositions" only in order to progress to higher abyss levels.
