The good chars you have rn are XL, DMC and Sucrose, basically; Beidou is fine but nowadays barely used (Fischl is generally way better but you don't have her), Kaeya is decent but usually on either a freeze team (not that great) or reverse melt (usually Bennett, XL and Rosaria). Jean is also decent but I don't think she has much use with the usable chars you have. Layla, Barbara and Collei can be decent support but there are better options, but at least Barbara and Collei can be used for hyperbloom teams which can dish out significant damage for rather low investment (only needs good hydro app, good dendro app and a full EM with sometimes ER electro trigger levelled as much as possible).

For now my recommendation would be to ignore abyss and focus on exploration/story and you can also start farming artefacts

I recommend Emblem of Severed Fate/Shimenawa, Gilded Dreams/Deepwood Memories and Viridescent Venerer

I wouldn't recommend farming the VV domain, it's better to strongbox it because Maiden's is basically useless

However, levelling weapons, chars and their talents imo comes first, at least the important talents to 6/7 and most chars to 80 (most supports are fine at 60/70 on a budget, while EM chars will want 90 eventually)

Either way, don't worry too much, the game ain't that hard and eventually you'll be getting more chars; if you want to focus on abyss, I'd recommend Nahida, Raiden, Kazuha... Yelan is great but imo not thaat necessary because Xingqiu exists. From DPS units, they're generally less valuable because there are a lot so depends more in which you like, but the overall great DPS units are Alhaitham, Hu Tao and Ayaka imo (from the 5*s, and also, Raiden can also work pretty well as DPS).

From the 4*s, I don't recommend pulling specifically for them unless you like/don't mind getting the limited 5*, but Bennett, Xiangling, Xingqiu are veeeery good units. Fischl and Kuki are also very very good.

Other than those, half of the current supports are either niche supports (Yun Jin basically for Yoimiya, Ayato and works decent for Wanderer, Faruzan for Wanderer, Gorou for Itto but can work for Noelle, Mika for Eula, Sara for hyper Raiden) or not that great (Noelle, works better as a DPS but kinda needs C6; Heizou is a decent DPS but not that great; Dori and Xinyan are probably the worst chars in the game, alongside Dehya; Chongyun and Candace are rather niche and usually for meme teams; etc).

Other 4*s that are imo nice enough are Diona (specially for freeze), Yaoyao, Beidou (as mentioned before, not that great nowadays but she still works fine), Layla can work fine instead of Diona, Collei can be useful just because she's dendro but she ain't thaat great (kinda same applies to Kirara but imo she's a bit worse than Collei, but can act as a dendro driver I think?), Kaveh can be also fine because he is dendro and makes vanilla bloom (no electro or pyro) kinda decent without Nilou... Thoma can be good for Tao or for burgeon. Barbara can work for hyperbloom but when you get better hydro chars she gets basically no use. Rosa and Kaeya can be fine for reverse melt. Yanfei can be decent but imo not worth long-term.
