A rarer (only 4 prototypes ever made) version of the B-1 Lancer. Probably relatively easy to adapt the existing B-1B model. Include an option to remove testing probe.

I looked in the trello and didn't see it, so...

Ig as an advanced customization? I don't really see the difference between the A and B other than the B being the mass production model

jaunty oyster
#

B-1A is noticably longer

I see

jaunty oyster
#

not to mention rare enough to warrant it being another aircraft (in my opinion)

still waiting for them to extend the B-1Bs fuselage

jaunty oyster
#

Intakes are different too
white plane is B-1A, grey is B-1B

#

the difference is subtle though

#

B-1A has adjustable ramp intakes

now I wish there was some kind of chimera B-1C; all the speed of the B-1A with the electronics and RCS reductions of the B-1B (although the B-1B is slower in part because of the RCS reductions)

#

if I knew how to model I would be cooking in flyout fr

#

I would have also suggested the B-1R (||haha BONER||) but it was only ever a concept so I would get mod quota'd

if this gets added hopefully we will get the data probe

#

probably as an advanced customization

jaunty oyster
#

hopefully the escape capsule is included in some way too

#

(it'd probably just be a subtle seam but that's enough)

jaunty oyster
#

was the B-1R supposed to be mach 2.2?

fickle hatch
#

yes

#

air to air missiles and 4 F-22 engines on top of avionics and mission system upgrades; 20% less range though

#

2004 could've been such a good year for military aircraft design but they Carter'd the -1R so not so much

jaunty oyster
#

oof

if only

fickle hatch
#

to be so honest we should be happy we have the B-1s we got ngl

#

it nearly got killed again in favor of waiting for production B-2s and upgraded B-52s

jaunty oyster
fickle hatch
#

to be fair the B-1 was probably supposed to be replacing operational B-70s

jaunty oyster
#

B-58s mostly

#

also WHAT? did the valkyrie go into operation? I thought it got shut down after it killed those test pilots

sudden thorn
#

the B-1 was made to combine the speed of the hustler with the payload and range of the stratofortress

jaunty oyster
#

interesting tangent, did you guys know there was a proposal to put MINUTEMAN MISSILES ON THE VALKYRIE

#

way off topic

but crazy

this is actually quite tame in the world of cold war aeronautical engineering, in fact we'd probably be a lot closer to what people thought the future would be like if we'd gone ahead with these kinds of developments in the 1950s and 60s
