This suggestion isn't meant for realism. Its purely for improving game entertainment.
Storms in the game currently aren't really anything concerning. All they really do is cause a lag spike and some deviation.
Only danger is when your trying to land in a hilly area in a storm.
My suggestion is to have "superstorms" spawn sometimes, these can be medium to large storms with EXTREME weather conditions that actually make it dangerous to fly into, and has more effective visuals (More lightning and hail). The waves in the sea in this storm area would also rise up and be more violent.
This would be quite fun for pilots to fly into. Weather hunting jobs would be intense. The wave activity would give sailors an arctic and North Atlantic kind of experience.
This would have an effect similar to what happens when an atc join the server - people flocking to that airport for a better time, which I consider peak aeronautica gameplay.
The only cons I think would be optimization issues during implementation, as storms are pretty laggy.
This is also not particularly realistic. But, a cool game feature instead.
