#Increased Addition of Profitability Features to Airlines

For some context:-

  • The first phase (and the only phase) of the airline update was last rolled out 3 years ago to my knowledge. Since then, most players have had to deal with the same system of airlines, and there is very little incentive to join an airline based on in-game description alone, and many airline owners tend to resort to providing bonuses like WP from their own inventories

  • Many airline owners tend to use boats and their own time to make up for the fact that they exponentially lose money when they run an airline. Airlines usually have a negligible benefit if you intend on being a member, or a major downside if players want to own and grow one for themselves. So the number of players who can actually start up an airline is low, and the ones who can fund it to high levels of success is even lower.

  • Aeronautica in-game (not including Discord) has few avenues where people can find out in-game airlines even exist. The three to four main ones are using a blimp to promote your airline (very obscure and is not directly linked to the game offering a mechanic to educate players on airlines), checking the menu on jobs (which people rarely do because they’re more concerned about WP and Cash earned from a job), promoting via chat (difficult due to Roblox’s censorship) and just clicking on players through the drop-down menu (the only proper way Aero offers to find out airlines even exist).

A quick summary of that:-
Airlines:-

  • are hard to start, hard to run, harder to run at a large and growing scale
  • provide negligible or zero reward to starting and being part of
  • are barely in the mind of most players, whom either find out about existing airlines through airline-ads or through very janky in-game promotion

My Proposal

I don’t think working and rolling out airline update phase 2 will just solve all of this, HOWEVER I do propose this:- Split out airline features into various updates, and add sprinkles of features like the ones I have suggested in the past and will bring up here, so that it gains more (in my opinion) long-deserved attention.

Potential ideas to consider:-

  • Advertisement System:- Airlines can lease out “an uninterrupted object that can display a picture” (billboard, blimp, whatever) and have a slot where their advert is shown. This can be rented out cheaply at smaller airports, but at major ones (think of your Rizieres, Tikarantos, Anhedrals, etc;), It will cost significantly more, probably in 5 figures or more

  • “Hub and Spoke”/“Point to Point” route modeling system:- airline owners can model routes themselves, and combined with the already shared and promised ideas about this from the Trello, a system that can model maps and show pictures of what routes can increase earnings greatly will help a lot

  • Addition of Revenue System:- Airlines can have a reserve in WP and cash so that they can cover fuel, maintenance, hubs, new aircraft etc; and other things like previously stated mechanisms. Salaries can be assigned by and to the airline owner themselves, so that they can also benefit from running an airline successfully, however, all of it will be coming out of the airline’s “reserve”. (This might overlap with what’s already in the Trello however this is me trying to elaborate it further)

it’s a weird concept of making a revenue system tbh without greatly affecting the economy

I think the biggest thing that’s missing (unless I am mistaken) is airline owners having revenue get generated just from their pilots flying routes. It shouldn’t be much, but they should get some, because they shouldn’t have to be grinding with boats just to pay off their pilots.

Another potential idea for this thread:

Add some sort of a daily airline multiplier: every charter or cargo flight you take for your airline increases your airline earnings multiplier. This multiplier would reset every 24 hours and would encourage people to fly commercially for long-term gainsgreat

ideally, it should be at or less than 0.01x increase per flight, but the multiplier would reset on an hourly basis instead of whenever you end flight
