On VTOL aircraft, there should be the option to press SHIFT+T to engage "STOL Mode". When STOL mode is engaged, it acts like something in between Hover and Flight mode, with it providing upwards lift as well as forwards thrust, achieved by partially tilting the thrust vector nozzles (for the harrier and F-35), or partially tilting the rotors for the V-22 and similar tiltrotor aircraft. Pressing T will engage Flight Mode. (This is because I wanna do a ski-jump take-off!!!)
#STOL Mode

fun fact: most VTOL aircraft with STOVL capability will always do STOL take-offs unless absolutely necessary
because to take off vertically takes a lot of fuel
and this mode also allows the V-22 to land horizontally without annihilating the rotors
with this mode, you could "taxi" with this without seeing the blades clipping through the ground
that too
iirc the V-22 taxis like that
ooo
good suggestion
and imagine taxi mode for helis
it can fly with rotors straight up, like this, or forwards
all three work
it can't taxi with the rotors straight forward, that's a death wish
i said fly
I know
essentially for every heli without skids
bump, pls trello this
Taxi mode for helis 🙏
imo this can use the r/f keys to toggle between 0/50/90 nozzle angles (ik airships already use r and f but are not used for regular planes)
So I'd say for a very simple implementation of this ,because current vtol is simply just press T and your plane becomes a helicopter, STOL mode would just be plane mode but:
Stall Speed = 1/3 * Base Stall Speed
Max Speed = 1/3 * Max Speed OR 20knots + Base Stall Speed (Whichever is greater).
Simply changing the planes states like this makes it way easier to take off but super fuel inefficient to fly for extended periods of time.
I also assume these stats are safe to change in game because wind can change your max track speed and your stall speed varies by your altitude, so I don't think they're static values.
(You could also maybe just have STOL mode simulate a headwind that starts at 2/3rds your stall speed and goes up to 2/3rds your max speed as you speed up).
but it is still pushing the plane up
yeah I know in a more realistic game that would make sense but like....that's a whole new flight model
idk if the devs can physically do that
the adding proportional vertical velocity to the plane
part
not the makinga new flight model I am sure they could
I just don't know if like the plane flight model will just let them do that
even if it would be very cool
(cuz it would be very cool :>)
bmup
I am very confused why STOL wasnt added with VTOL but its what it is ig
bump
no bumping
oh yeah don't bump
I've seen some guy bumping too much that their post got closed
revive this suggestion
again
r u blind
probaly
i wonder
Does he know
few updates later yet it's still not considered
devs, add the stol mode/taxi mode for big props vtols!
yes
