Back in March last year, I predicted that larger ships could take very long to go between far destinations. So I wrote this massive thing up. This will be a long one.
Menu:
- On any ship, pressing tab would bring up the game menu, with full landed aircraft menu functionality except, in some ships, trade and ATC, and except hangar teleportation and (obviously) checking dealerships for all ships.
- On larger ships with helipads, in the place of the ATC button in the menu will be a "Aircraft Activity" or "Landing Pad" menu, where the ship will be given a short ranged, fixed scope radar, and a list of any aircraft which are currently landed on your ship. The ATC chat menu will not be given.
Trading:
- When an aircraft has landed on a ship, it will show up as "landed on (playername)" and the menu will have limited functionality. Both players will be able to trade, and the aircraft refuel, but the aircraft will not be able to teleport out, do overhauls or do ATC. My idea is for the trader/recipient to fly in, trade with the player who is on a long haul shipping trip. This will also solve the "airship effect" where players would rather do less profitable, faster haul jobs than do a grueling long haul job with an airship.
What about the ship leaving?
- In that case, the pilot player and their aircraft will be teleported to the nearest airport, and they will be prompted with a message saying something along the lines of "The ship you were landed on has disconnected from the game. You have been teleported to the nearest airport without a fee."
On a larger ship with the aforementioned system, you'd be able to enjoy the life of an (almost) regular aeronautica player, while doing a somewhat worthwhile job.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
and yes, ping me if there are some outdated things I need to revise. this passage is over a year old.
