do you have any backstory on this model? this is the first i've heard of it
It was one of the initial fully art passed versions of the spartan made for Reach
There's been bitmaps for it seen in early builds of Reach forever, but a mesh for it was only found finally within Halo Recruit
and it happened to also have a full set of full-res textures for it there too
I just rerigged it to the Reach skeleton to make it usable
You could see this version as a basis model for Noble Team in various Vidocs and prerelease Reach media

I remade this guy with Infinite's Mark V B a while ago. I'm pretty sure he's also the spartan used in the holograms which is why I did this

early elite's undersuit textures are the only thing we're missing to stitch together assets from various sources to effectively have a full early reach elite

looks like it's less detailed textures and lower poly
there's a hybrid of the t-mags and sapper chestplates too

This one has much higher resolution textures and overall texel density compared to the retail model
It also has more accurate geometry than Reach's retail model, especially noticeable on the grenade pins, because models imported into Halo use compressed vertex positions or collapse nearby verts unless their material is flagged specifically as "precise", which these were not

you know. years ago when I found the recruit spartan I paid attention mostly to the textures assuming it's just high res reach ones and that was it
never noticed the mesh was more detailed too
would you believe I asked Ken about this for years and he said the high res Reach Spartan didn't exist?

Halo Recruit really shows that their asset archive has all the reach stuff in its original texture res
There's also a 2k reach assault rifle & magnum texture set in it
Not to mention h2a campaign having a recoloured reach sniper in 2k, or Halo online having reach's scorpion tank in 2k

this is how the vanilla DMR model looks with increased ENV reflections in HREK
all of them have messed up normals in reach
and its a problem with the model, not the textures
