I read that you can make the stock 40 HP gain like 10HP easy just by doing some simple bolt on stuff, so I suppose it's possible with all I've done. I think it really comes down to how well my head porting job is, considering I've never done that type of thing, and went kinda conservative with it. Just mainly cleaning it up, not extreme porting. I didn't want to pay 800-1200 for actually good heads

the porting is wonky on those engines from what I remember being told and what I've seen done. and the carb being tweaked a little can make a huge difference... are you gonna keep it carb or upgrade to direct injection?

if its the engine im thinking of its just basically a drop in bolt up. right? that would be the carb iirc

The porting is really weird. I might do fuel injection in a few years if I get tired of carbs and have the money, but I want to fully understand how carbs work so I can transfer that knowledge to other old cars. Right now I've got some dual webers which according to some people might be slightly too small, but I'd rather go small and upgrade later, than over carb it

Carbs are a hell of a thing to get into. they can be demanding, but very rewarding. its been a long time since I worked on a carb engine. I had a 2001 a6 2.7t , but that thing was a nightmare to work on... everything is so crammed in those. older cars, everything is so open and free most of the time. its nice.
