It would be cool if Beyond Sandbox had basic commands you can give NPCs, but not in a way where they’re forced to obey every time.
Core idea:
NPCs can sometimes respond to simple commands like “get down” or “freeze”, but they don’t always have to listen depending on their behavior or situation.
Basic commands:
“Get down” → NPC may crouch or take cover
“Freeze” → NPC might stop moving briefly
“Run” → NPC could flee if they’re scared
“Hands up” → NPC might surrender (if passive or low confidence)
Important balancing idea:
NPCs don’t always obey
Their reaction depends on:
Personality (scared, aggressive, brave, etc.)
Distance from danger (Holding a weapon can make them listen.)
Current situation (in combat, calm, etc.)
Aggressive NPCs might ignore commands completely
Why this works well:
Keeps NPCs feeling realistic instead of robotic
Still gives players some control in sandbox situations
Adds unpredictability, which makes scenarios more interesting
