#physical movement based speed and recoil control

Similar to what is present in the game blade and sorcery - a system which would make the player have to move thier body in order to achieve sprinting, this would add a layer of immersion and realism, which if i understand correctly are the main focus points of Beyond Sandbox. having a weapon in hand should slow the player down by a factor of the weight of the weapon, then holding that weapon lower and moving the hands whilst still holding it should give the player the ability to sprint, the sprint would still be slightly slower because of the weapons weight.

there should also be a system that changes the recoil of a gun based on if the person using it is lying, crouching or standing up right, since the favourable position to shoot most rifles is on a slight knee bend, being slightly crouched should limit the recoil of a gun. this would incentivize lowering the posture ,which would then decrease the movement speed, with physical irl action instead over an unpredictable game mechanic, i find it really irritating when my game character slows down when i ADS in a VR game, making that a result of players physical action, which he may choose not to do would make it more rewarding. also the recoil should be influenced by how close the stock of the gun is to the body

the speed of the player would be dependant on four factors, with them being 1. how tilted the movement stick is 2. the players hand movements 3. weapons weight and 4. the posture/position of the player.
If a player has to move his hands in order to move it would make the shooting more realistic and would reduce the need for artificial spread or accuracy changing.

mixing these two - having to move the hands in order to move faster, and a recoil system based on the players posture - would make for a system that is both predictable and rewarding

Aim XR (the game I codeveloped) has another feature depending on the position of your weapons

anyways, you run faster if you are holding your weapon lower and consequently, slower the closer it is to your face

that’s what i’m trying to avoid, it’d be cool if pointing your gun from 75-45 to the ground would have an effect but anything closer to the face shouldn’t really impact movement speed since it’s not realistic, u can still run with a gun whilst aiming it’s just that you’ll be missing everything, i think giving more control to the player allows for more interesting strategies

it’s a vr game so the ability to love your physical body should be encouraged to make for a better gaming experience

#

my issue with most vr games is that they essentially are flat screen with controllable hands, and it doesn’t feel magical.

how so it very well addresses the Issue with vr games playing like flat screen titles

every single one of its suggestions are either just plain bad ideas or have already been implemented into existing games. his direction for what a VR shooter should be has already been implemented into multiple games. if anything, the existence of PMC mod removes the need for this video in the first place

snap turn “fix”: introduces accessibility concerns, makes smooth turning objectively stronger, conflicts with the design direction for his game concept as-is

stricter reloading: in most VR multiplayer shooters, you’re not some average joe. you’re playing as a trained soldier, and lenient reloads fit that mold

Slower movement acceleration: Do we need to bring up Bonelab again? Having too much inertia makes moving around sluggish and annoying, especially in VR.

stricter reloading is interesting on paper until you get into stuff like interacting with bolt-action rifles. hell, H3VR had to add button shortcuts to let you rack the bolt without letting go of main grip due to how small the hitboxes are

for me personally it'd make sense to have normal mag(or clip, depending on the era I guess)-fed weapons need to be more precise to build individual skill and such rather than the slap-n-dash norm, but have bolt action weapons more lenient (since they're easier to use irl due to the restrictions/locking of the bolt itself)

TLDR: more restrictive magazine reloads (not H3Vr, but definitely not C$), and slightly less restrictive bolt cycling
