i dunno where to put this but im cracking my knuckles to talk about a fic trope that i've been so mentally stable about (loud incorrect buzzzer) for...

Star tears is a fanfiction trope like hanahaki; it attacks the body in a way that can cause long term harm, however not death (like hanahaki can do)

well i'd say fanfiction trope but im banking that its not the whole story, but i learned about it from ao3 so

#

anyways, the similarities it has to hanahaki are; it comes when the person is expirencing romantic feelings being unrequited, a thing thats not supposed to be where it is invades the body because of it, it can be cured (an iffy subject regarding what ive looked up in the past, but i'll dwell on that in a bit)

#

the differences are:

  1. they are tears, they only harm the eyeballs directly (pointy edges)
  2. they can be colored or can be just yellow (really up to personal prefrence i think)
  3. they dont cause death (in a way)
#

i've been mentally ill on it for long enough to garner my own beliefs and schematics on how it even works

#

again will touch on that in a bit

#

but the general consensus is; after a while you do become blind (color blind or just blind is up to preference) aswell as the fact that you can garner amnesia (from what i've read online from maybe not reliable sources its a slim chance)

#

now heres the part where it can be cured gets tricky

#

originally i saw that it infact wasn't exactly supposed to be a magic "reverse all that had been done" cure, like i had seen others write

#

after a point its actually supposed to be incurable; the damage would've been stopped, but its impact would've been there!

#

i still think this can be the case (given the real world stuff about amnesia)

#

but generally; its supposed to not be a "heal what has been hurt" cure

#

even though; i have seen it done by many a person

#

i do believe there is good reason behind it too: that shit can get really depressing really fucking fast

#

especially when you consider that maybe it can spread

i have thought about it plenty ngl

so the idea that one persons grief from thinking another person wouldn't like them back could spread

especially if it wound up being that they actually liked them back after a while, now with it being far too late to pause any of the damage done

  2. I'd say there's a good chance you develop becoming colorblind before becoming legally blind sets in (thats bc i have written a character not experiencing becoming colorblind before the blindness begins to come in)
  3. it is a "heal what has been hurt" cure, sure; the return of feelings must be genuine, but i am not creating an accidental global pandemic because they couldn't stop the effects in time (an interesting idea, sure; but not something i'm interested in keeping full time)
  4. uncontrollable bursts of crying, thats one thing i also forgot to mention and a thing i forgot existed; sure the crying can be brought on by the want to be in a romantic relationship with a person, but i think you're also more emotionally volitile in this state
  5. you become incredibly sluggish and exhausted, mental processes can be slowed to a concerning degree if allowed to fester

this is just me being enamored with character writing and how they would get out of being slapped against a certain wall

#

also for 3; it just seems too grim of an idea to punish a character in that way unless they genuinely deserved to be punsihed in that way

#

there's a difference between not knowing your feelings about the person and realizing them too late, and just ignoring the said feelings for the sake of convience

#

and i mean that in the way of social convivence

#

and i dont mean in the "i just wanna stay friends way" (although i think they deserved to be slapped around a bit for that way)

#

i mean in the way of maintaining a reputation/image, like in a highschool way (think jock goes with cheerleader not nerdy shy girl)

#

like it can and will bite them in the ass if it absolutely needs to and when they wanna play prince charming when its already too late; they're gonna figure out that they cant do jack

#

i think it'd be a fun idea to do that tbh

anyways that's one of my larger and recent interests

I just really really really love homestuck. Been down a Youtube rabbit hole about old versions of Windows for the past couple days, to the point where I downloaded a couple programs on my laptop that make it so the Windows 11 desktop now looks like XP, which is the first OS I used because my school used it for years until they upgraded to 7. There were others I found that could've let me go further, like one that replaced the login screen with the one from XP, but I don't want to go that far with it yet. I should probably add old tech and internet stuff to my special interest list at some point, since that's been a big thing for me for a while now.

I used Open-Shell for the start menu and RetroBar for the taskbar, and I also added the default XP wallpaper.
