So I finished and my final thoughts are just
||like what do you mean you picked up a 16 year old girl off the street and not only are like "no we only take people on board if they have skills. Oh you're organized? Well ok then!" despite none of this family having any ability to actually follow orders or work as a group, arguably one of the most important traits if you're going to be working on a generation ship. And then by the end it's like, yeah not only can you and your mom stay, neither of whom have any actual useful skills, but we're also just going to completely change the way we operate cause you suggested it." Like if I was on that ship I'd be screaming bloody murder
Story-wise, it was just kind of lacking a focus. It felt very YA in that stuff is just kind of happening and the main character is reacting to it. I didn't feel like the side characters were very well developed, and everyone was just too dang nice. Like the number of opportunities the ship had to just steal shit from people instead of being nice and letting them on the ship. Of course it's highly unethical, I just don't see people being so well-mannered at the end of the world. I think I'm going to have to give this a 2.5||
