#Other Reads Section

So, we have the "other-reads" section under Server Reads, I suggest we either use it or remove it entirely.
(I would also like to point out that it has an event that is locked, but has the tag "on-going" on it)

I'll admit, the server was rather confusing when I first joined. It felt messy, and it was hard to find things.

I mean, we have Server Events, and Server Reads. But, under Events we have pure reader events? It makes the title of the other category a little moot.

I'd honestly move all the pure-book reads under Other Reads. Un-hinged Women, Ancients Classics, clash of the unconquerable. And keep Server Events for both the creation of events, voting for buddyreads, and non-book events. Bingo, while being about books, isn't specific books, its more a game, same with readathon. Those fits. It might even be suitable to have an own channel for "Monthly Name Event" so that people who join after the announcement can stumble over it and join in. (I've encountered people in chat that didn't seem aware of the event and was asking why everyone had themed names)

I mean, I'd like to underline that all of those book events are unique channels. They're not a thread under Bookish-Games.
Which means, the ONLY way for someone new to discover them would be to look at "Channels & Roles" to see what they can add or hide. Unless I remember horribly wrong, I don't remember seeing those channels when I joined. I remember being confused, because the titles of the channels didn't make it clear what the channels were. I had to add all of them and check them out.

Like right now, as I'm poking around writing this. I cannot find the warrior cat channel. I KNOW we had a warrior cat event, and I know we're supposed to have a new one during summer. Where is it? I'm going to assume the mods hid it entirely because it's not currently active or something because I am not joking when I'm telling you I cannot currently find it.

Unless, of course, the issue is that "other-reads" is a forum? Can you create threads within a forum? If the answer is no, hmmm. I'd still move the individual channels down under server reads, a clear distinction between books-we've-chosen-to-read-together and fun-games-that-we're-doing.

Of course, you can also merge Server Events and Server Reads, and push Book-club, Buddy-reads, Adult-buddy-reads and br-requests up under info with announcements.

I know I'm talking a lot. Essentially, my complaint is that we have essentially the same thing: Buddy Reads, but in two different sections. Because what else is ancient-classics than a themed buddy read covering multiple books? it isn't even required to read EVERY book, you can join w/e you want.

Hi dot! thanks for the feedback. We used to do a lot of other read events a while ago but currently we're only running bookish games and readathons. Hopefully in the future we will bring the short story event back or poetry reading events, so that's why we haven't really felt the need to remove it. But I can see how it is confusing.

To answer a few of your questions already, we do archive old channels yes, which you can view with our Archive viewer role in id:customize or #roles. The warrior cats were archived because the event was over yes.

We also opted for doing channels for those big book events instead of threads or forumposts for these big book br's because we can't add threads or sub channels in those, while with a channel we could. I can see how with channels and roles discord might not show them for you immediately, that's something i can look into with onboarding for new people of the server.

Would it be helpful if we made a post in #1057460348392833065 or #1057463803660488734 to highlight each big book events? Just currently thinking out loud

I've thought about that! It could be useful to have like a general announcement pinned somewhere about current events that new people can easily reference to and we can send newbies to. Or just every two months or so have an announcement announcement that goes "here's what going on in the server! And here are our currently long-term/yearly events"

My worry about that however, is that it would add more work to a moderators job essentially. It would need to be updated after all. But it would probably be the easiest way to advertise the events

I think in terms of extra work, I don't think it's not a whole lot if we add them as separate events somewhere to manage individually, it's nothing different than what we do with normal buddy reads in that sense i think.
