#Autumn Bingo 2024
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
Oooh how was that? It’s on my tbr too
I like it, it was really complex and well-crafted. Tbh I wasn’t in the best place to read it in the personal stuff I was going through so in that sense it was a bit of a slog. But I do think if I had read it at a different time I would have really loved it. I hope that makes sense
It was just a little long imo
Treat:
Fresh Dirt From the Grave by Giovanna Rivero - read wrapped up in a blanket
Trick:
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher - An author "everyone" has read but you (this one was okay gave it 3/5 could be better but I still would try their different books)
Telework Yotabanashi for 'Sweet as Candy Romance' box
One Dark Window for 'Witches or Magic' box
Dark places for 2 word title
The maidens for academic setting
Added author I'm grateful for! I finished Judicator Jane 4(beta read). This is the 4th book of his that I've gotten to beta read and he's such a fantastic writer. I think it's one of my favorite series of all time.
The Shining for the Free Space. Almost done and then on to the Trick card
The Shining for the
Free Space. Almost done and then
on to the Trick card
Thank you haikubot
"Archer's Voice" for Sweet as Candy Romance
progress is being made even if its just graphic novels right now but im intending on finishing some “proper” books this weekend!! so we’ve got The Girl From The Other Side vol 7-11 for obc buddy read, expected 5 star read, short book, read wrapped up in a blanket and been on your TBR for over a year!!!
#1298288343653683301 for "Published in October"
iron widow for aliens
"The Third Gilmore Girl" for "author I'm thankful for"
"Bookshops and Bonedust" for family theme
for Aliens i have Communion by Whitley Strieber, the classic 1980s nonfiction firsthand account of an alien abduction experience.
#1291667001806163968 for set in Autumn
Firstly I changed The Guest to "been on your TBR for over a year" (bought the book in 2023) because found another book (Fish Soup) for 2 words title for Trick card.
Secondly I finished The King's General by Daphne du Maurier for the "author you're thankful for" prompt. While I have many authors I’m thankful for, each for different reasons, I chose du Maurier because her books have a special significance for me. It was through reading Rebecca that I "met" @mortal hinge, it was our first BR, first DMs, and from there, things just went insane
Even though Lio's influence sometimes always leaves me overwhelmed by my ever-growing TBR pile, I'm grateful for every moment of it and I wouldn’t change a thing. Sorry for this emotional dump - I promise I'll go back to my annoying, sarcastic self after this
And a pic of my edition
this is so sweet! and that's a gorgeous edition
Hallowe'en Party for short books and Never Whistle at Night for Leaves on the Cover
You, Again for sweet as candy romance

#1279352909255016502 It's a chonky book but I definitely recommend it! - Later by Stephen King for Orange Cover.

Oooh, nice
Vampires of El Norte for a book that's been on my tbr for over a year
oh wow how was the sun down motel? (was it better than the book of cold cases
)
No not really. I did like the vibe of the run down motel setting, but I actually found the mc’s motivations to be even weirder than in the first one. I did like the mystery though, I thought it was actually pretty satisfying. Just more of that “true crime obsessed millennial” lol
there there for indigenous author

yes i know that Jana didnt rate hers that highly since it was a disappointment
yeah I had expected intermezzo to be a 5 star read but it was not
Mine wasn’t either
I mean it was EXPECTED 5 star so even if you rated it 0/5 later it doesn't change the fact you expected 5 so final rating doesn't count for this prompt (mine wasn't either)
The Apple in the Dark by Clarice Lispector - Author You're Thankful For (I really liked her other books, this one was not it
)
tj powar has something to prove for a revenge story

So I've been updating this but I keep forgetting to post it but Trick Bingo is done!

Bloom by Delilah S. Dawson for Published In October. This was a fantastic BR even if I didn't care much for the book and Jana is hosting another of her novels opening today! #1306891093543092245
Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie for Halloween! #1288040205164740649 A perfect fit and my first ever Agatha Christie read!
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt for Characters Travel by Plane. I adored this book, a 5 ⭐ read for me#1265935834423758861
Keanu Reeves Is Not In Love With You by Becky Holmes for Published After 2010. This actually came out earlier this year. It's a nonfiction book that balances comedy with a harrowing account of the devestation and legal murkiness that comes from romance fraud.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo for Starts with the letter N. Our polarising November BOTM! I for one was on the side of enjoying it, we still have a little less than a week for you to join in
#1299696976862117979
And finally my free space is: Fairy Tale by Stephen King
I love this book.
And thankfully while I was trying to finish Trick, I had managed to fill a few prompts for Treat

i fell in love with hope by Lancali for Been On Your TBR For Longer Than A Year- I picked this up from a handwritten recommendation around Christmas two years ago and there it remained. I sobbed
Me: A Novel by Tomoyuki Hoshino for A Philosophical Read. I can absolutely assure you of two things: 1. I loved this book. 2. I have no idea how to describe this book, the synopsis does not prep you for what actually happens.
Everyone In This Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin for Queer Protagonist. My beloved rin recommended this book to me and I fell in love with it. I'm actually reading another book by Emily Austin due to how much I enjoyed this one.
The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers for Discovered on OBC. My heart can't hold my adoration for this book, thank you OBC!
#1281888236028821517
We're also going to read the sequel book
#1309132667723190282

Finally Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn for Newest Entry on your TBR. After being wowed by Gone Girl I decided to join the BRs for both Dark Places and #1280429795817295873. I didn't initally intend to pick them up but they joined my TBR because of my beloved Alex and Kit's enthusiasm.
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn for A mystery novel

Did some rearranging. Moved Ring Shout to two-word title and added Long Live Evil for OBC Buddy Read. Also added An Academy for Liars for academic setting, and Pet Semetary for a book where characters travel by plane
Finally got a bingo but I still don't know what to do for author everyone's read but me
Maybe something that was adapted (even loosely) into a movie/tv show? On the line of thought that “maybe not everyone read it, but at least some writers did and maybe caused some interest in the source material.”
What about one of those authors that have books you'll likely find in a thrift shop because they have a ton of books.
like John Grisham or Dean Koontz
Oh wait I have an idea
@gloomy owl you're a Grady Hendrix fan right? If I give him a second chance, can I use it for my "author eeryone's read but you"?

Oh absolutely
Yessss. I will join the "How to Sell a Haunted House" br cause it's available on libby

Short book / under 300 pages
My Year of Rest and Relaxation
I'll probably aim to finish the second row!

I don't often care about romances but aaaaaaa it's also a trilogy, I'm definitely going to continue!!!
The Book of Elsewhere by Keanu Reeves and China Mieville for Poetry or Novel In Verse. Kind of a warmup for #1307669136318402581 and I also adore Keanu. There were long sections of poetry in this book for sections involving the past of the MC.

∙ The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo - 'night' in the title
I didn’t expect to pull it off, but I did.
Salvation of a Saint by Keigo Higashino - A Revenge story
This challenge definitely helped me read more—October was my best reading month this year! I had a reading slump from May to July, so my stats only improved from there. Thanks to this Autumn Bingo, I managed to tackle a lot of my TBR, including physical books that have been sitting on my shelf forever
It was fun reading with you all, as always!

Free Space: Lord of the flies
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas for "Protagonist isn't Human"

(Also I know this is for fun but it's really satisfying when you finish a card
)
Days of Utter Dread by Graham Matherson & Dawn G Harris for Published in September. One of the best and most uncomfortable horror anthologies I've read this year.
Last Night At The Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo for OBC Buddy Read!
#1297841452533022730 this actually ends in like 1 more day but I thoroughly recommend it for it's unique storyline, setting and unique queer coming-of-age story!
Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin for Read Wrapped Up In a Blanket. I feel like in my experience most of Emily Austin's books are best enjoyed this way.
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn for A Mystery. Part of the duo of Buddy Reads hosted here for Gillian Flynn, I've yet to experience a Gillian Flynn read that I haven't enjoyed.
Heaven by Mieko Kawakami for Academic Setting. It's set in a Japanese high school and revolves around bullying.
The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher for Leaves on the Cover. Spooky tree on the cover! I thought this was...OK. Not my favourite of her stuff, had some interesting premises but the characters got on my nerves lmao
Maureen Fry and the Angel of the North by Rachel Joyce for Part In A Series. This is the final part of Harold Fry's tale and it's set many years after the fact focusing on his wife's own journey. While I wasn't in floods of tears reading this one, I definitely got choked up.

Okay, 3 prompts added and 3 prompts left!
I've got:
The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese for a slightly cheeky Protagonist is around your age. The protagonists change often and it's often around various points of their lives too, so
#1265977720639328298 it took me a little bit to get into this book but in the end I definitely recommend it even if it's chunky.
The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell for Author You're Thankful For. Yeah I love this lady. She's a lot of fun to read and very much a comfort author for me. While I had problems with #1311029730526363698, I still think really highly of her and had a good time in general.
If You Live to Be 100, You Might As Well Be Happy by Rhee Kun Hoo for Short Book <300. This read is just under 200 pages

Best I can do
at least it's a bingo
All Fours by Miranda July for an author everyone had read
I thought I’d finish the treat card but now it’s not looking like it’s possible

you can do all or lines
just some*
i dont think i can finish another book in a full 24hours, but here's my update!
6 lines
YAY I did it
The Southern Book Club's Guide To Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix for 1990s. It's very much set in the 1990s and I was due a reread, so
A Prayer for The Crown-Shy by Rebecca Chambers for Expected 5 Star Read. #1158739660323946566 is going on right now
Can confirm that it's the only comfy series that I actually like.
Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle for Free Space. Because why not? Who knew that in our year of the lord 2024 I could consider myself an honest to God Chuck Tingle fan.
Finished A Dark and Secret Magic for "Halloween" last night and moved Midnight Mayhem to "night in the title"
yeyyy! My free space was a Chuck Tingle book too! :D
