#br-resuest role

I was talking about a reaction role that people who wanted to be notified about new BRs could get
It's possible, but then it places the perms & the responsibility in the requester
And members who are new to the server don't always know what their responsibilities are 😬 I'd like to see more discussion on this
In the meantime, I suggest advertising your BR in relative channels as much as you can
How about making it so they can only get the role after they have a certain number of BR points?
Because then they should be at least fimiliar with how BR requests usually look and would know how a BR usually goes, as they would have already participated in some
This also does not help my earlier stated problem
The person requesting a book does not require the role, no? Isn't the role meant for people who want to see what requests go up? If you are requesting a book then surely you would be checking the #br-requests channel, and wouldn't need the ping to ping yourself
This is confusing
Can you restate your suggestion?
You understood it correct at first
forget what I said later, I just made it more confusing for no reason
So like the events ping, where you can opt in to get pinged every time a new event is announced? But with buddy reads?
Oh but for buddy read requests, not the official buddy read
for me its pretty obvious when a br-request gets put up since its at the top of the server but for people who dont see it cant they just set it so they get notified every time someone posts in that channel
Yeah I feel like this isn’t the first time it’s been floated, and I like the idea, cause it can be easy to miss them
I think the biggest concern would be the allowance of all members to ping any role in that channel. Sure, it’s something that probably wouldn’t be exploited just because of the nature of the channel + its singular permission going unnoticed by abusers. Still, it would be possible for anyone to ping @ member which in this server is the equivalent of @ everyone. Again low chance of abuse but still possible. I suppose a mod could ping the role after someone posts like normal. Just another thing for staff to do though. Or maybe there could be a trusted role with the perm so it’s not only on staff to do.
I do understand this concern because it does seem like not everyone checks this as regularly as others, allowing some BR votes to miss the 12 vote threshold. More awareness to votes is always important.
I am not going to create another "staff only" responsibility because we already have enough on our plate
In terms of the role being another @everyone: we already have serverwide pingable roles such as @Voice Hangout , @Music Session , @Trivia Ping , etc and there has been no abuse of the ping so far
knocks on wood
Though I am curious to know why a pingable role would be a better idea, rather than advertising your BRs in #book-talk or your genre channels
Well, even though I do check the br-request from time to time, I do miss it a lot of the times. And I personally almost never end up checking the specific genre channels; I'm here mainly for the buddy reads. And I would think that that's the same for most people in this server. I have nothing to back this assumption up, but I'm saying this might be the case as most of the BRs have some the same recurring members who take part in the buddy reads.
But if there was a role br-request ping role then my guess is that more people will notice them and consider joining them. If this does turn out to be true then you guys might have to make a few more changes like increasing the minimum interested users threshold for br-requests cuz otherwise there might be too many BRs, but I think the positives outweigh the benefits here. I think a part of the reason lot of BR requests don't get approved or goes unnoticed is because most users don't even know about the requests.
I didn't plan this msg out before typing it out so some things might not make sense; ask me any questions you might have.
Also judging from how everyone is in this server, I don't think anyone will be abusing it (for the most part
)
To be honest, I don't understand how you are here for the buddy reads but then are also missing the buddy reads as well, can you expand?
Nope, I can't... I just meant that even I don't always remember to check the #br-requests channel (even though I almost always do). Also considering this this server has over 3000 and 300~500 online at any time, I think a lot of them are definitely not checking the request channel often
I'm simply suggesting that a pingable role might help
Sorry if it's rude to say this but I don't really care that much whether it gets approved or not... I just made the suggestion because I thought it might increase the involvement of users in BRs. The role doesn't really affect me in any way, I'll still continue checking the br-requests from time to time just the same way I've been doing so far regardless of if I'm getting pinged or not
You're losing me here LOL
We indeed do have 3000 members, with 300-500 online at times, and not everyone checks #br-requests , however, there has been a continuous stream of requests being accepted and turned into #buddy-reads , so it can't be the case that people are not checking the request channel.
If you think that having a pingable role would help with involvement in BRs, then we do have pings already. We have @Reading Events, and we have regular user pings for each BR, done by the BR Leader.
It doesn't seem like there's much a problem here in the first place, but I guess I can do an occasional @Reading Events ping in #br-requests to remind people to react/vote for BRs?
Sureeee
Let's just to with that
my two braincells didn't plan for all this when making this suggestion 🥲
Haha, nobody ever does
although I do still think I'm not totally wrong
Just one last thing
Come back here again when you're able to properly back up your statements, I'll be waiting
if you're going to do that try to do the ping when there's a non-fic book request
I feel bad for all the non-fic stuff
they almost never get through, lol
Heyyy, I do
They have the same chance to make it as every other br
I think coffee means that if you request a BR, then you have the ability to ping the role for people who want to see a BR announced
Oh Nevermind
