Okay, time for a bunch of posts

SO - on the topic of how people vote in the villager vote, specifically if members here favor feminine presenting characters. There were some assumptions being tossed around, and I thought "Hey, if only we had a bunch of data of how people vote" and then I realized we do.

DISCLAIMERS:

  1. Obviously people could have changed their vote since the time of the vote conclusion. I don't have any reason to think this is widespread enough to cause any issues.

  2. In order to protect the Sacred chapaanda , I asked non-tester community members for how they would describe the entries we don't have confirmed names for yet.

  3. When talking about the way the silhouette's look in terms of presentation, you have to make some subjective choices here. I'm open to critiques of these choices, but I believe they are fair -
    Masculine Presenting: Ashura, Jel, Hassian, Santa Hat, Probably the Cook
    Feminine Presenting: Tamala, Kenyatta, Bug Lady, Tish
    Children: Auni, Goggles/The Gremlin
    Cat: Zeki

  4. There were two emojis, ❓ and ChapaaSquish that have received votes. We have clearly seen that some members will vote for an emoji over a villager, so I've included that data.

RESULTS:

  1. Winners - if you just look at who has won each week, you have 3 feminine presenting, 1 masculine presenting, one child, one cat, and a tie between Ashura and some punctuation. From that alone, it would be reasonable to assume that feminine presenting characters are favored, however we need to look at how many votes are cast, how many villagers were running each week, and the makeup of each vote.
  2. There has been an uneven number of villagers in each race, from five in Weeks 3 and 7, to two when Ashura took on a flaccid exclamation point. The average vote per week has gone

Week 1 - 2248 (4 villagers)
Week 2 - 3854 (3 villagers)
Week 3 - 2481 (5 villagers)
Week 4 - 2212 (4 villagers)
Week 5 - 2608 (3 villagers)
Week 6 - 4470 (1 villager, 1 emoji)
Week 7 - 1903 (4 villagers, 1 emoji)

The trendline on the chart shows the obvious bit where the more options on a vote, the fewer votes each villager gets. The extreme outlier is Week 6, where Ashura's inevitable victory was boosted by a large propaganda campaign.

  1. So if we know what the average number of votes per villager is each week, and we know how many of each group there was in the vote and how many votes those groups got, we can see if there are trends there. For example - in Week 3, there were 3 masculine villagers, 1 feminine, and 1 kid. We can figure out the average of those masculine votes, and then see how far off the average vote for each group is from the overall average vote for that week. In Week 3, Auni (kid) got 5300 votes, Kenyatta took 1669, and the three masculine villagers in the group (Ashura, Hassian, and Santa Hat) got a total of 5434, or an average of 1811.

It should be noted that the "masculine" characters in this vote took more overall votes than Kenyatta or Auni, but there were three of them.

We know that the average per villager for Week 3 was 2480, so we can use that to see how each group compared. If you do that for each week, you can get a chart like this:

This shows us that feminine presenting characters were well above average and out-performed masculine presenting counterparts, even when they didn't win. The only exception was of course Kenyatta's dismal performance in Week 3.

Oh, why isn't there any data for Week 6 you ask? Because it was a tie, and neither of the two contestants deviated from the average.

There has not been a week in the villager vote without a masculine presenting character in it, and with the exception of the last two weeks, there has been either 2 or 3 masculine characters to choose from. There has been an average of 2 masculine presenting villagers each week, and only 1.67 feminine presenting characters. The additional choices on the masculine side may also dilute their ability to win.

  1. Yes, I know that things work out a little different if include Zeki as masculine presenting, or the kids in masculine or feminine presenting groups. But I think it's a pretty fair assumption to say that more people voted for Zeki because they're a Grimalkin and not because they dress like a dude.

  2. More Graphs -

Here's the distribution of votes per option per week, and the votes by presentation.

CONCLUSION:

If you include Zeki as masculine presenting, you actually have more overall votes for masculine presenting villagers than feminine presenting characters. However, this can be accounted for by the frequency of masculine villagers appearing week after week in the poll. Feminine presenting villagers tend to win votes quickly (Tish won the week she was presented, Tamala only lost to Zeki before being selected, and Kenyatta lost to Auni and then Hassian before being picked. By comparison, Santa Hat had three weeks before getting pulled (and re-added this week), Hassian and Jel both last two weeks, and Ashura had be gerrymandered into a victory after 6 weeks. We still have Probably The Cook and Santa Hat in the running.

Looking at votes by presentation per week, it's closer, but the feminine presenting characters still seem to have the advantage.

And when you break it down to see the variation from the average for each villager, that's where you see the feminine presenting characters outperforming most weeks.

I think the data does support the notion that Villager Voters tend to prefer feminine presenting characters.

Yeah, I mean I definitely just did this for fun, but the point was that there was a conversation before in palia-chat about whether or not people were favoring female presenting characters in the vote, and there was some disagreement about what the meant and whether it was true. My initial reaction was "Maybe recently with like Tish, but definitely not as a rule" so I decided to test my assumption and check. Plus I do this sort of analysis for political campaigns and it can be a nice brain exercise. But no, I'm not trying to make any statements about it or proclaim any sort of meaning behind it other than that the data does seem to confirm what that person was feeling about the votes.

It just doesn't feel natural to use. My old wacom felt like an extension of my hand and mind. This one feels like I'm peeling a potato with another potato.

Ahh. Yeah there's definantly common patterns for cat behavior but there will always be outliers.

I've seen all sorts too. My husband's folks always had a bunch of barn cats (and in turn strays that wander in) when we were in highschool.

We were made to go back to the office in June even though my manager was cool with us staying remote. Thank you corporate overlords.

Managers are still needed since they're a middle man between a team of regular workers and upper management. Mine is still needed at least even in a remote scenario.

In office project-based work, there's a lot of people in those management roles who have task-management/business process/agile/whatever experience and are good in those roles. Plus, business analysts and project managers do a lot of the paperwork and overhead that would otherwise keep me from concentrating on my work.
