Back in the 2000s, Anthro subculture was art/lit about anthropomorphic animals. Furry referred to people who were "attracted" to anthros, or wore fursuits. Anthro just referred to people who drew/wrote anthro and maybe RP'd Anthro. So if there were anthros in a game, and you played it, you'd be anthro, but people could call you "furry" as an insult.
Nowadays some Anthro people are more okay with being called Furry, kind of like some LGBT people are okay being Queer. But "some" of course does not mean "all". Sometimes a term that used to be an insult is still considered one, so unless someone calls themself a furry, don't call them one, and don't refer to fantasy races as furry, refer to them as anthro.
