I disagree with that, it looks wholesome on the surface but it really isn't. The main message of the show is that family is forever and it's good to forgive people who do wrong... except that the people who do wrong in this case are Space Nazis. Rebecca Sugar desperately wanted to have her cake and eat it too- she wanted to have a Star Wars esque conflict with the same level of interpersonal affections that a family drama has, and so she made Space Nazis the equivalent of somewhat abusive parents.

Also, that love song? The song of grief over loving someone you lost? Pearl ||doesn't actually love Rose, she was literally ordered to love Rose forever and she was incapable of disobeying.||

I've recently started watching Miraculous Ladybug; it's a French superhero show about two superheroes, one with the power to create a single object that could be useful, and one with the power to destroy anything he touches. They're in love, but one is in love with the super persona and one with the civilian persona. The villain has the ability to empower people, turning them evil in the process; the villain of the week typically has powers related to a problem they're dealing with in real life, and can vary from a guy who controls pigeons to a girl who can travel back in time by erasing other people from existence.

It's cheesy, but not bad.

Oh yeah, and then there's Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts! It's a recentish show about a girl living in a postapocalyptic setting where every animal species has mutated into a sapient being, each one having their own culture based on a human subculture from before the apocalypse. There's mafia frogs, 80s exercise raccoons, and Victorian Apes to give a few examples. Kipo starts off trying to return home to her fallout shelter 'burrow', but quickly gets wrapped in a plot to enslave the last remnants of humanity.

I recommend Gundam 00, Netflix Voltron, and Gen:Lock. In that order. Sadly, Gen:Lock is taking forever to continue.

Also, I would recommend MechQuest, which is a game, but unfortunately that company's games are super hard to figure out what order to play the content. And the game story does fall off at the end.

A story it is then! I'll go with one my mama taught me. She called it "The Legend Tells".

The legend tells there once was a bridge that lead to a grand clearing on the east riverside. It wasn't a very wide bridge. Neither was it especially tall. It was built just like any other bridge.

The clearing used to be a congregation place for Chapaas and Antleans alike. They would bathe in the sun as the walkers on the other side of the river marveled at the splendour of the creatures.

#

The legend... Oh the legend tells. There once was a gate on the east side of the river. You'd think the gate wasn't very especial, but let me tell you, it really was!

#

It had great tall pillars, older than the rocks that formed the road. It had ornaments like no elf has ever seen, even the humans could only dream of them. And the door themselves. Yes, the doors were... almost ethereal.

#

Pale blue symbols appeared to float in the air, with white bright hinges linking it to the pillars. What was the door made of you say? It was like there was no door! You could see right through it!

#

The travelers and merchants all stoped to look through the door, never disturbing the animals and their peace. They could look, yes, but not cross it.

#

Oh but friends... the legend tells. Yes, the legend tells! There once was a hooded a figure. Not very tall, very unremarkable. Except, that is, for the intense red of their hood.

#

The figure would come to the bridge every day, and every day they would wear the red hood. They stood there for hours on end, appreciating the beauty of the Chapaas and Antleans.

#

Many were the times those who walked the road asked the figure why they stood there, often with no reply. Curiosity plagued their mind. What hid under that hood?

The legend tells that after years of visiting the gate, the hooded figure took off the red piece of cloth revealing a jet black haired woman. Tears ran down her face, while a wide smile took over her mouth.

Ah, yes. The legend tells. The legend tells that the woman in red was crying of happiness. It was long ago when she found a tiny squab in that same gate.

#

Ever since that day she had taken care of the small bird, raising it to be a grandiose eagle.

#

The legend. The legend... No. The travelers. The travelers say that on that day, an eagle flew from the read cloak and extended it's wings. It flapped on the spot for a long while, looking at the woman in red.

#

With tears still on her face, she managed to mutter the last words to the flying creature. A last goodbye. "Go, dear friend. Go back to your realm. Go back to... to your home"

#

The woman in red wiped the tears off her face and admired the clearing one last time. The majestic fauna and flora that inhabited it was almost hypnotic.

#

She put the hood back on and turned around. "Now it's my time to go back home"

#

The legend tells. The legend tells that the woman in red traveled the land, searching for her ancient home. But that, my friends, is another legend. Another legend that tells.

Take it from a bookseller, those books are written for average readers. I feel the same about Nora Roberts and James Patterson. Doesn't mean they're bad, but they're not existential reads above your ability to enjoy.

Edward Eager's Tales of Magic series is also pretty good. They're sort of like Roald Dahl's stuff in that they're meant for kids but written with cleverness and whimsy that can be enjoyed by everyone.

For the hard nights, I try to give myself something nice to think about, even when my anxiety is racing. Sometimes it's a plot with RP characters, sometimes it's just envisioning a beautiful place to explore.

ooh meditation 101: you can't not think, that's a misunderstanding. monks etc just control their thoughts by completely focsing on their breathing, taking awareness of their body and maybe having a thought loop like "1, 2, 1, 2..."
