I hard agree with this. Don't know how many here played Destiny 2 raids, but the final boss room of the 1st raid, you had to communicate the icons you saw, only using voice.

I wasn't surprised the figures for running & completing the raid were so low.,

I've had some bad experiences with voice chat, and people being rude because of my gender. It turned me off of making friends online and playing multiplayer games for years.

I would definitely want a good system for reporting voice chats if we had it in game.

I get and actually agree that voice chat is good/can be better for some situations (raiding, PvP), but in general, I prefer typing over it due to bad anxiety in general (I've got to work on that). I always feel bad when turning down invites from friends, but it's nothing personal, it's just fear. Everyone has their own reason to prefer typing over voice chat, or the other way around!

That's a bit of a biased opinion imo. I much more enjoy chatting over voice with my friends playing games, lets me multitask in game and do more stuff rather than stopping to talk every 10 seconds. Voice Chat has opened way more avenues for interactions and friendships to grow and things like that

It's a very real problem, and like has been suggested; most people's solution is to just use Third Party software where they aren't likely to be found as easily. At the end of the day there's just as many solutions to dealing with VC stuff as text based stuff. VC would be harder to track issues but reports and everything can still be issued. People can be muted, problems dealt with. Everything that happens in text channels happens in voice chats as well, and there's just as many systems in each to handle the problems

it is a bit biased but I feel it's objectively better for a community as a whole prior to having such things. Voice chat created a division which isolated a portion of the community. Removing parts of a community is never a good way to strengthen a community. Prior to that there was no such segregation which separated people due to hearing disabilities among other things which could cause people unable to use such things.

Understandable, I'd just say remember for as many ways as Voice Chat hinders so does text. I have dyslexic friends that, for example, can't watch any anime with subtitles because it's too hard to read/keep up. In the same way it's a challenge to actively participate in text channels. Segregation of a community will always happen in the way that you describe because that's accommodation and preferences, it's not a stake driven between the two unless the individual wants there to be a stake. A voice chat will not cause segregation of a community, rather allow the people that wanted to be segregated to segregate, and at that point that's no fault of the community but the pre-determined decision of the individual

I like feeling engaged, and am concerned without a feeling of danger engagement might be a tricky feeling to get to. Even harvest moon type games have a level of danger (have to watch your stamina or you pass out) Not saying it is impossible by any means, just not sure how they will do it. Keeping a open mind and planning to provide as much feedback as I can on such things so it can stay within their goals and still feel engaging.

Pre-alpha is to just play the game it’s to test and to help the devs improve the game so it’s better for the rest of us on release. I completely agree with @hidden lynx. In so far as it is possible, i would only add & ask that all those who get into the Pre-Alpha just remember that 99.8% of people didn't (for obvious reasons). Any project has design goals & limitations. This is to say, they needed 200 people to get the ball rolling; whatever that may entail. It may also mean only NA; although some people believe others got in from around the world.

From my personal viewpoint, i'd be astounded if 50 devs spent all their time reading 100k+ survey responses - I would assume it has been categorised and then reduced to a small filter to get the people they need for now. This includes those who have been around for a while on Discord; who they know will be active & know Discord well enough to get things setup.

I feel so too, perception can be tricky. It will of course always appear like those most active are the only ones that got selected because they are the only ones you see because they are active. But who knows how many inactives are flagged. Because they don't talk you won't know unless you scroll threw the channel to count each one. (Which seems a bit weird)

Oh for sure, they probably filtered out everyone who never spoke in discord and didn’t write a sufficiently long paragraph. They also probably removed any submission that didn’t have every field filled out, and I’d imagine only a relatively small subset of people entered their email on the site and completed both surveys or whatever. I guess my point is that they could probably easily filter it to a couple thousand serious applications and read a lot of those. Or it could have been random, but I don’t think so based on what they’ve said.

I like subscription base myself and actually prefer it, but I do see the benefits of Free to Play. It offers the ability for those on a more strict budget to be able to pay as they can instead of having to commit to a monthly fee or lose out. I can't honestly say which method is objectively better.
