I like how the fly-points in WoW works. You can get on a Gryphon or Wyvern from a fly-point you have visited before.
But you are forced to enjoy the ride and the scenery from above.
No portals, no instant teleport, no skipping the lovely ride IMO!

What some games do is they have you run through a story and then use phasing to change the world slightly.

And then only the person that does the story sees the changes made, so that way other people can do the story.

But I wonder if they'll take that route.

One thing I'd love to see in a game is where each "world"/server, you can go to any one at any time, like in RuneScape. BUT each world is actually a different story progression determined by players' actions. Not for this game, no, but one where world events have actual stakes like kingdoms getting conquered.

World Of Warcraft used several phasing methods. One was were they separated players into different instances, where only players on the same story could see each other. The methods they used later allowed players to still see each other, but things around them would be different.

They eventually found some middle ground, where the final story instances were the main world instance, so it would no longer phase the player after they did the story quests.

So they could have major world changing phases, but eventually funnel all the players into a more MMO friendly situation.

A huge part of these types of games is progressing your home and your town.

You would never really carry an stone axe if an iron one lasted forever. MMORPGs usually let you slot items into very specific slots or assign specific items as keybindings.

I could see a system where you don't equip an iron axe or stone axe. You equip an axe, and you can "upgrade" the axe, but each "upgrade" has its own durability. You can switch between upgrades, but it's still one item in one slot and the base version doesn't break.

That's one way to do it.

You can "upgrade" that one, time and again, and each upgrade has durability. But it's still one item, not multiple.

Yes. They put unbreakable versions in the cash shop, but it sucks if you use up all of the durability of the normal tools for F2P players. They weren't like normal consumables, as you couldn't combine 'stacks', so it was more like a durability.

lemme give you an example, if you wanna forge copper, you have to keep the heat of the forge between 2 lines, if not, it'll just stop

if u wanna forge sand and make glass, you gotta do the same thing, but the lines are way closer, so you gotta pay more attention

there's a crafting system with lots of interactions inbetween

and even better, tools are in a toolbelt like in RS, but you can select them like in minecraft. so tools are not part of your actual inventorry

What some games do is they make it so any tool can do anything, but the wooden tools just explode and die after a few uses.

yeah in this case, the base item (wood) would have infinite durability but be the least effective

so you'd never lose a tool
