My biggest problem with gales was actually activating the flow gates on switch. I spent WAY to long trying to get the promt to come up. That kept making me leaving the temple and not going back for days at a time

My biggest dream for the game is a rework of the character's faces. Kinda like what happened with WOW as it got older. But idk if it'll ever happen ngl. I want the characters to have different features and different heads kinda like the villagers do. Most characters seem to have plain faces and all look to come from a base head with some alterations (like bigger lips, eyes, smaller nose etc)

Having good and customizeable gender presentation options is close to my heart too, and as a person whose s*x/body is non-binary as well (thanks to HRT) one of the main gender challenges I have in the game is having to choose between the binary s*x options.
(I mean I can't make somebody look like me because I can't be fat in the game, and that's a whole other thing.)
Just for gender and s*x, the way that all the faces available for female body types have eyeliner, for instance. I've been able to find a gender presentation in the game I like by choosing short hair, female body, male voice, but then I don't like using many of the outfits available because of the degree to which they show the chest orbs, so I feel limited to the outfits that flatten the chest or have something in front of it like the... alchemist outfit? (I forget what it's called but it has vials of potions strapped to the chest)

yeah for sure, there's genuinely some tech and design problems that come with this request. I don't think many games have really got it right yet, and not just because they haven't tried but because it's hard to incorporate those considerations. especially for an animated 3d body. and given that Palia doesn't have much character customization in general, I'm grateful that what it does have is pretty open for choosing gender options

what i think is beautiful is just how different and varied the human body is- even among people who identify as the same gender, or who were assigned the same one at birth. humans are hugely unique, there are so many different faces and bodies and shapes we can be. and this is.... very hard to represent in games but i love that we're pushing that tech forward and constantly trying to innovate on it in the industry

I am cis female but I play as a dude cause the chick's body type is far to tall and slim. But I'm stuck with a masc face cause I want my body type to look a bit more like me. I'd rather be able to actually customise my body type.

This is really deep in the weeds, but the problem of trying to create a non-binary presentation option, is that non-binary isn't like... an actual gender in the way that male and female are. It's not an actual "third gender" that exists as an established thing, so there's no actual * aesthetic target* to approach when it comes to gender presentation. A lot of us, in an effort to do something like "passing", will just try to look sort of androgynous, for some of us the ideal would be if people couldn't tell if you were AMAB or AFAB, or like... still being misgendered but at least being misgendered 50/50 on either side LMAO.

But again that's not the overall goal of what nb gender expression should be, there's just so many presentation desires people have, which is why when it comes to nb gender presentation, and queer gender presentation in games overall, customisation is king

i don't think we really have good targets for male and female archetypes either tho. like even in that slider posted above... are we saying the default female body is hourglass? because... it isn't. there is no default female body.

I guess what my thought is, is that there shouldn't be gender-exclusive body shapes at all
you should be able to pick a shape and then decide if you want your character to look male or female while using that shape, rather than saying "if you are female you are small and if you are male you are tall"

Thats why fully customisable sliders would be great. Get rid of the two default options currently and just have.....idk a star represnt body....and then sliders do all the shape work.

width ( shoulds, waist, tights)
muscle mass

then the players can decide for themselves where to take it, without the need for the devs to set types for it

i will say, one of the rules we have in the narrative is that we never assign a pronoun to the player based on their body shape or voice. in fact.... until/if we ask you to pick your pronouns within the narrative, we only ever refer to the player by their name.

this is a very conscious choice we made so that npcs were never assuming your identity

I feel like Sifuu comes with the issue of whether or not devs decide to ||bring Taylin into play||.

I mean, she does say at later friendship levels that ||she’s ready to start moving on|| so I think it could happen. But if they ||bring Taylin into the story|| I would expect it to be a tense and dramatic storyline, especially with Hassian. Also, I think that a romance able Sifuu would therefore make ||Taylin harder to introduce because they’d have to worry about her being visible to everyone at what point in time,|| even moreso than they are with Subira.

As for the possibility of Hassian and Sifuu being romance options at the same time, they’ve already crossed that line with Reth and Tish 😭

I chose to romance Nai'o specifically because ||I didn't expect them to break up and I was so excited by the idea of being able to romance a character who's romancing somebody else! Not just polyamory with the player character as the hinge (the one dating multiple people) and so I very enthusiastically chose responses to Nai'o telling him that there was nothing wrong with him continuing to date Kenyatta, and he's like "oh really? It's possible to like two people at once? That's brand new information to me. well I already broke up with her anyways so whatever" (paraphrasing) so if it's possible to have some other ending to that, I guess I chose the wrong answers by... telling him it's fine||

i would also say, some ideas of "maturity" are very coded by our cultures. in a lot of cultures multigenerational housing is super normal and people live with their parents for a very long time- and this is true in palia as well.

There's an option the the menu where you see your friendship/romance bar there's a little cog there

If you press the ⚙️ and say break up it will take your romance bar to 0

I would honestly consider doing that with the ones I don't want to have a relationship with, but wat if we get romancing lvl 5 I don't want to start from 0 again 😅

yeah that makes sense. In reality those issues would make those situations untenable.

I think it's an issue for me, because whenever characters "try out" non-monogamy in fiction, that's almost ALWAYS the takeaway like"oh polyamory is just sooo hard and dramatic and messy" and so people get the message that "poly never really works" because almost every example of fiction is that it's a hot mess. It's really not though, most of my polyamory has just been... normal? And honestly I don't really find a particular need for a high level of communication.

The communication thing can be an issue though if people are experiencing some issues like insecurity, jealousy, and sometimes for just practical issues like scheduling LOL. I guess my experience hasn't come with much insecurity/jealousy thankfully, so I haven't had that experience of needing to communicate a lot of things about the polyamory itself

Hey all, I don't know if this is a shared feeling: I feel burnt out of being forced to grinding and gambling for a chance of luck with decor and plushies. I see people's houses with lots of plushies and I've been asking how do they do it to get so lucky? and they just say grinding for hours. I don't think it's normal to spend hours intensively cooking for money or hunting for plushies with no luck at the end. I mean I'm not even living my own life sometimes, it's so addicting to try to get lucky, and from the moment they added this lucky factor with almost no chance to get some things, I really wonder what were they thinking because I don't think it's for a cozy game. Hustling is already hard in real life, I don't think I'm enjoying the game right now. And burning out trying to get reactions??? last week didn't feel good because it's forced and I just wanna genuinely react. I don't know, I think the game is perfect in many ways for example with the story and the character friendships/love romances, the beautiful places, all the quests, but not this gambling 24/7 every day of the week sitting in our chairs all the time. I got some plushies after two weeks of intensely trying literally all day and I'm finding myself addicted, I don't like how this is making me live. I'm gonna have to force myself to step out of the game. And I'm one of the persons who gets annoyed when people critisizses the game because it's beta, but this about luck... I don't get this, it's not coherent with creating a cozy game.

The RNG took over the game for me when piles were added.
My advantage is: I am older and my fomo is quite under control (mostly) so I can just stop playing when I don't have fun and can be fine with not having everything right away - so basically grind a little bit at a time and think one day it'll drop - but that even started with all the legendary fish or bugs - took me months to get any of them.
Also what I do for money is tend my garden and jam everything to sell - its a steady income (more than I want to use rn) I just really like the gardening - so I do not need to do any cooking parties for money. Much more chill.
Basically what you are describing is the mechanic people add to their game because they want you to keep playing and if everything is obtainable fairly people would be done quickly and stop.

at the start there was only one Harvest House allowed per plot - then it was added so you can have 5 HHs per plot, but they cannot be connected to each other and there is a max number of housing items per plot - if you press H on the plot - can can see the number on the top right.

Some of them already have, like the gold cap, but most haven't and I don't believe they will.

Being around since day one of closed beta, their MO has always been to have players progress at a snails pace to account for the lack of substantial content in the game. That's why so much of the game is behind RNG with no pity mechanics, so players have to grind to ungodly hours just for single items. It's why they made a bunch of nerfs to cooking and food preserving during closed beta, and continue to make nerfs throughout patches if they think players are progressing too quickly - like when they lowered the drop rate of starstones and changed their prices. /gen

Especially given how they've gone through three rounds of layoffs, two of which were almost back to back, I think the cling to RNG is even more apparent because while their content development was slow before, it's much slower now given everything.

I also believe, based on Daybreak's history, that we'll see this behavior more heavily - especially in regard to how paid shop items seems to be the chunk of the most recent patches. /gen

The act of using RNG to keep people playing isn't bad, I want to preface, but there should be systems in play to ensure players aren't spending weeks (or months) seeking one item. Palia doesn't have it, aside from for hunting sernuks / plushie dropping creatures.

The issue will hopefully be alleviated with trading, assuming it's actually a trading system and not just a rework of the poorly designed request system, but in it's current state the RNG grind of Palia is counterintuitive to what it's appear was during marketing, and who their target audience actually is. /gen

The parallel play is real for sure with Palia. Which, again, isn't bad in it's own right but when that's pretty much all there is in an 'MMO' it stings a lot and really devalues the experience.

While I can't fathom why someone would play a multiplayer game and not engage with the community inside it, I get that they've dug themselves into a hole by offering that playstyle from the beginning. So now they're stuck in a place of trying to develop multiplayer mechanics while not dissatisfying the players that would rather be singleplayer. /gen

They’ve also said its more of a sim than an mmo, a lot of it is meant to focus on the building/plots. I’ve been happy with each update personally, lots of things were needed and they kept adding more. House tours, party buffs, both great

For the most part, live service games rely on the player’s time spent in game in order to justify the server budget. The longer they can keep you logged in, the better. So having things be super grindy, or extremely rare, keeps that happening. The other part of it is the tedious questing, like “fetch this, now take it to this person, then go see what this person says about it, then back to the first person”. All of that keeps us playing.

But those things are usually expected in mmos and such, especially for games that are established and have a plethora of things to do or items to grind for. Palia isn’t really there atm with that and is also a life sim, as most of you have already stated. There’s not much else to do once you’re sick of doing one thing for hours at a time. This might be super obvious but it was explained to me semi recently and I had never seen it that way. I always complained about fetch quests and having to run back and forth. I still do, but i understand it now. Mostly. I just felt like sharing that.

The real issue isn't that there's grind, it's that the grind has no pity mechanics to account for bad RNG. Grind is understandable in a multiplayer game, but there should be ways to lessen that grind whether it be through trading (crossing my fingers that comes soon and works) or consumables players can buy/make to increase the chance of getting X item(s).

The way Palia's grind is handled is pretty counterintuitive to being a "cozy" game. Their grind, while shorter than MMOs (which makes sense because the whole point of an MMO is large-scale progression and long, often yearly, play), doesn't service the game in the way they think it does /gen

right now, the house tours are nothing more than a speed date, trying to get to as many houses as you can in the hope that the person you're visiting will return the favor for you (they don't always btw) so very rarely are people actually taking the time to look at all the hard work you went through to decorate your plot. plots that have nothing on them (or just have a single plush) are getting more votes than people who took the time to build up their plot

I'm not sure I understand your question correctly, but I think you're talking about your plot security settings, not the home tours, right? If so, your plot security settings must be set to "friends" or "open" so people may come to your plot when you're there. If your friends are on different servers, you can server sync by going to your friends list and clicking "invite player to server". They will then be able to find your plot and come over.

A work around could be to have people you've already added as friends add the others in the party, then once they are at your plot, have those new adds server sync to the people you have on your friends list

This is going to sound weird but separate your cooking stations. You can have two mixing tables or two stoves together, but not different stations touching each other. Ever since I've done this, I've had 0 issues cooking on Switch.

I think the one big thing a trading system would help with is items you didn't own before. A request system with frequent requests doesn't have a that big difference to a trading system in terms of bots, cheating etc. Any time there's a way to give items to others, that'll happen. They could even make it an expansion of the request feature - "If you fill my request for 3 Palium bars, you'll get my five buzzing glasses or however it's called".

If it's a system where you walk up to someone and push a button to open a trade offer/window, it's possible for someone to put an item up, wait for the other person to do the same, and then drop their offer and push the trade through, but this typically can only happen in games where the trading system is not very well planned and safeties aren't in place. S6 would hopefully do something more sensible and account for bad behavior when forging their design.

hi, I'm struggling with gifts. And I'm not sure if its a bug or if I am doing it wrong?
I tried to gift Reth a citrine, he wouldn't take it. I asked him what he wanted, he said something about a leaky roof and wanting sapwood planks for Ashura, so I went back to my place and picked up a sapwood plank to give him, but when I went back to him he wouldn't take it either.

It says I haven't given him any gifts this week either, so its not that at least

i strongly believe that the tiered nameplates should have been achievements like the coffee cup one. where you give the reaction that you want to give and it goes towards it, not go into social media or a discord chat and spam your plot and what reaction you want your plot to have

my take would be for them to lower the reaction goal numbers. I can swing 100 MAYBE, but not 200 in a week.

i never advertised my plot, i didn't put it in the reactions section of this discord and i'm not on any other social media where i can advertise... i got/have 7 hearts, 5 sunglasses, 6 blush and 18 hats. there is no way that if you don't beg/advertise that the rng will ever be good enough (imho) to ever get tiered 3 nameplates

I think a fix would be to wait 1 minute before you can vote for a plot. That would stop people from just hitting 1 and moving to the next plot.

I like to explore plots and check out what I am not doing on mine, not sure why spamming votes is necessary.

I wondered why there wasn't an entrance and exit. Almost forcing you to go THROUGH the plot. It's all over the place. You start a new game , you HAVE to scroll all the way to the bottom of the TOS to click 'accept'. The only other way I can see altering the way the tours are now is to limit each players number of plots they can visit per irl day. Something. Also ... I love being able to tour homes but hate that the process is akin to the way some people manage youth athletics where you only play a set number of innings, don't keep score, and everyone gets a participation trophy at the end.
The only difference is that we DO keep score, but it's based on individual popularity and influence, NOT actual achievement. That, and the fact that we CAN earn rewards but the threshold for each award is so high that it encourages people to just blindly react and move along.

I am no longer going to bother with the "trending" homes and will not be reacting to homes that have hundreds and thousands of reactions after a mere day or two of listing.

It's a fantastic concept but appears broken beyond repair. It's time to take the whole thing back to the drawing board.

I keep my tree seeds in my inventory, like I told you earlier because of the bug. But i keep all my flowers and seeds on a different plot. (Seeds in an ungrown state)

I keep 25 seeds of each flower so I can grow a batch at once when I need, and have 2 other plots with flower limits that I just keep rows of flowers so I can go pick them up when I need.

When I need let's say tulips, I move all my seeds usually next to the water area, water them until I get seeds then I put the seeds back in they're spot, or continue to water if I need even more.

I saw people having random flowers in they're garden that weren't fully grown and still had seeds. But I never had that problem because I just water them all until I get seeds and then I move them.

With all the houses around, i noticed everyone is using some kind of glitches to make best of the items they have available. Also people are using floors to extend their plots, practically going out of building bounds.

while disassembling an item would be nice, it could also be used to hoard rare items over the storage limit, you could craft something that requires a lot of palium bars for example and then put the furniture into storage (which is unlimited) and then when in need of money or the palium bars again, just dismantle it. the only way i can see it working would be if you get half of the material needed back rounded down (so if something took 5 bars of palium for example you'd get back only 2)
