agree to watching others catch it, you can even find someone else fishing in game and watch when they catch the sharks ! for me the major size booster hook and minor size booster (fisherman's brew) together helped me while getting the hang of it, now i can catch one with no boosts, perfect catch. make sure not to reel while they're out of the water, only when they are in and the circle is green !

May be just me but It seems the only place I have been able to catch it is in Jeunesse Pass lower right corner in H6 where you can walk to the water usually 2 hotspots when I do get it but I have to run back and forth between there and Mitana Grove while hitting all the hotspots. I do use the Fishermans Brew buff. Running back and forth gives the hotspots time to respawn. there is usually a hot spot right outside the cave there in I6 too, hit that to clear it out. Hope it works for you and good luck.

I'm afraid maws is legendary for a reason. That and the beast called rng. You're doing all you can ... fishing. There is no 'easier' way I'm afraid but ... you WILL get him in the end and it will really make your day. Don't give up and let us all know when you get him ! Best of luck!!

there is a trick actually :) fishing in the bubbles can give a higher chance of a higher ranked fish, and starred fish. Ofc this also means you can get epic fish rather than a maws but still, worth trying! it doesnt guarantee it tho, so you can also easily fish 20 bubbles and only get regular sharks!

But it gives a better chance than just casually fishing in 1 spot bubbleless for hours

Not exactly sure. It's a mechanic I've not really dealt with in other games. Typically when it happens the fish moves and I move the thing a little too far and overshoot and then it doesn't move fast enough to catch back up. The ones I catch are the ones that don't move side to side very much.

When I first started I liked to use the Major Safe Zone Size Booster Hook from Einar's Guild Store and either the Sushi or Sashimi.
The size booster hook increases the bracket size a good amount but if you aren't that far along you can use the Fisherman's Brew as DuhScape was saying. And the Sashimi or Sushi will help with your rod health. If you don't have the recipes for those yet, you can catch them at parties hosted by other players over in #1445866314949202012

Ok the bubbles are acting up. For the past 2 days I've been working on my master fishing achievement. Whenever I had bahari river fish, I used the flooded fortress as between the top and bottom there were always 4 bubbles and they'd regenerate. Now suddenly there's either just 1 or 2 bubbles and once I use them they don't regenerate.

for the bubbles to reappear you need to leave the zone, so they respawn quicker, or at least thats what i do. Find two hotspot in rivers seperate from each other.

But that's the thing, all I had to do up until NOW was to just run from the top to the bottom in the flooded fortress. The other bubbles are spread too far apart when I only have an 3hr window in game.

Only reel when it is green! Yellow and red are bad, it will break the line. Watch the bobber not the fish. If you’re able to hover in green, it will recover health bar

I tested this for a bit last night. If you stop reeling and the fish is outside the reticule the rod will still lose health, but only half as fast as when you're reeling. Fish that are too difficult will still break the line very quickly.

Also it seems like if the fish jumps you need to stop reeling while it's doing that.

Is there a way to reliably refresh fishing spots for Bahari River spawns? I've been running into an issue with resetting the Flooded Fortress spots. They stop cycling after about three to four catches and disappear completely.

I usually can get 2 of them by using major speed hook, fisherman's brew, and I go to the lighthouse and glide my way to a little lonely island behind the lighthouse and I've always had luck doing it that way. Currently have 2 extra cause I've been catching them and giving them away to others who need them. I hope this helps!

Important Tip for Not Wasting Bait (especially glow worms) on Fish You Aren't Trying To Catch:

When the fish bites it will jump out of the water briefly and you can see which fish it is. Some fish are very similar to others but some have a distinctive silhouette like the Long Nosed Unicorn Fish and are easy to tell apart.
If the fish isn't one you want to catch, let it leave then pull your rod back in. It will not have used your bait so you can recast your rod as many times as you want until you get the fish you want without spending any of your precious Glow Worms.
If you see it's the fish you want but aren't fast enough to pull the rod in, don't worry, the fish is still right there and will bite again very soon. It will stay there right next to your bobber biting over and over until you either try to catch it or pull your rod in to recast.

i actually rotate where I fished at just because I've been grinding for makeshift for so long that I like a change of scenery. I have fished a lot at maji market, kilima rivers, house pond, the ug and bahari coast. the least I fished at was probably bahari rivers but once in a while I will fish at bubbles while i'm gathering iron.

You can skip mauvais way bubble for the one inside prismbeard cave; so your rotation will look like this : river from mitana grove to hassian pond to 2 red blossom cave ponds to prismbeard cave pond then go to der mer dock fast travel and go back to mitana; rinse and repeat

Or you can do mauvais in one run and prismbeard in the next; prismbeard is just closer to the other ponds that’s why I would go there instead of mauvais

Question about fishing: Sashimi says it helps with rod health. Is that the overall rod durability before needing to repair, or is it the fishing stamina while reeling in a fish? I can't seem to get a clear answer.

Have you tried the pond on your home plot? If not and if you do not need a starred one, try there. My pond is where I caught my first one after fishing all the ponds for days.

get the faster hooktime hooks from einar for sure

I've had good luck trying for those rare-window Bahari river fishes by furiously going back and forth between bubbling spots in the Flooded Fortress to get starred versions, if you need them, since that location tends to have more bubble spots close together than running up and down the other river locations.

As long as you don't hook the fish, you can wait for it to leave, then take your line in and cast again. The bubbles will go away though if it's a bubble spot. If you just leave the hook in the water, afaik you'll get the same fish.

I use all black sea bass to make grilled fish for worm/glow worms or use in Bouillabaisse

I finally caught a maws! Starred too. After like a real life week of trying and constantly running out of glow worms and catching so many lake sharks and floatfish and plushies.

No best spots unfortunately, they despawn once mined. I mine iron bottom of the map, not all over cause that’s overwhelming 😅. Run among the edge of the map and around the cliffs. You’re looking for dark bits sticking out of stone rocks 😄

I like to loop around the edges to the far north or the southwest, up and down the cliffs. Outside Pavel mines, high up, also has some good nodes at times.

But yeah, they could spawn a bunch of stone - you never know what you'll see at the locations.
