If you have access to these things, I recommend (in order from most to least crucial):

• exquisite rod if you don't already have it
• Major Safe Zone Size Booster hook attachment (buyable from Einar with guild medals)
• Fisherman's Brew (stacks with the hook!)
• Fish Stew (makes the reticle move more responsively)
• Sashimi (boosts rod health recovery rate)
• AND sushi if you can afford it

Tips for fishing difficult fish (these may not be new to you, but just in case...)

• Keep the reticle centered over the bobber as much as possible. The buffs to make your reticle bigger and speedier will help a lot with this.
• If the bobber escapes the reticle, stop reeling (finger off the trigger) immediately, but continue moving the reticle to keep it over the bobber. This will give your rod health a chance to recover. (Sashimi will make your rod health recover faster)
• If the fish jumps, same idea: just try to keep up with it until it lands again

The mermaid likes to double-jump, but it ultimately has a very predictable pattern. After a few attempts, you'll start to get the hang of it.

Also: starred fish are more challenging than the regular version. You don't need starred for the relic, so just fish in regular ol' open water, not in the bubbles :)

Yes, they all stack. All consumables stack together and you get the buff of any equipped hook booster on top of that

It's based on the sell value of what you put in. For every 50 gold sell price, you get 1 glow worm
I use grilled fish, as if you're fishing you get a bunch you'd sell anyways, so why not recycle them?
If you use glow worm fish, the minimum you can get is 3-4 from unstarred grilled common fish (cave common fish are like 96-98g I think, so when grilled just below the cutoff for an extra glow worm)
If the 100g common fish are starred when grilled, that's then 6
You can easily get more than 20 glow worms per hour with rare fish, and 40 with epic fish

The XP amounts for fish are all scrambled. Used to be that XP amount tracked roughly with biome, bait, and rarity, but something got messed up on the back end and now random fish are worth huge amounts and very rare fish are worth a pittance.

But yes, generally speaking you're supposed to get more XP for fishing in bubbles.

Oh yeah, and trophies! Silver at level 25, gold at 50, and accomplishments to match.

To the best of my knowledge, all nodes of the same material type and size are essentially identical to each other and drop the same spread of starstones at the same rates.

As far as which starstones you get from what...

• Clay drops one set (quartz, citrine)
• Stone and Elderwood stone nodes have another (citrine, jasper)
• Copper and silver nodes drop the same set (quartz, onyx, emerald)
• Iron and gold, ditto (garnet, aquamarine, sapphire)
• Palium and platinum also share a starstone set (amethyst, ruby)

That said, I'd have to investigate a bit more before I'd feel comfortable stating with confidence that e.g., regular stone and whitestone nodes have the same starstone drop rates, or that copper and silver nodes do - i.e., it may be possible that there is a better chance of getting starstones out of silver nodes than out of copper nodes.

As a general rule, larger nodes have a higher chance to drop starstones, but I've gotten plenty of starstones from small and medium nodes (they're also more abundant than the large nodes, so I think it more or less evens out)

They're epic rarity, so they just aren't very frequent, but they are caught using glow worms in freshwater. If you're getting turn pikes, you're in the right water/bait.

If you need pond fish, I would fish at Hideaway and the pond by Hodari's house. If you are fishing by Tamala's house, I would fish elsewhere. While that spot is a pond it is a forgotten about pond and, yes, the respawns on it are really bad

Youre good. I think the ponds by Tamala and the Stables are still bugged giving river fish. However they dont always give river fish. I believe they only give river fish outside of the bubbles or something.

@outer root Yeah rivers for all three. Flooded Fortress would be best for you. Fish on the West side of Fortress then the East and then back West. Flooded Fortress is buggy so the hotspots respawn fairly sooner after they are used about 2 or 3 times then they go away for about 20 minutes

• Rare and Epic caught with glow worms can be used in fish dish cooking parties
• Rares caught with regular worms and all uncommon + common can either be grilled (if unstarred fish) for a chance at +50% bonus gold, or just straight sold if starred
  • or if you need glow worms in bulk, grill the starred ones, too, and spoil your glow worms
    (recommend setting up a circle of 4-5 campfires and standing in the middle to rotate around, otherwise the 15s cook time is excruciating)

That Any Fish selector takes the cheapest ones first, but it WILL take whatever's in your bags before the cheap ones in storage, as many heartbroken players can attest after grilling their bundle fish...

Depends on whether you want glow worms cheaply, passively, or quickly

The cheapest glow worms are from anything worth 11g and below, or at 16g - so, meat and savory forageables. This is because at that value, they give back 40g (or 45g for the 16g items) as 1 glow worm and 3 (or 4) HB fertilizer

If you want passive glow worms from gardening, then the cheapest glow worms in that case are from pickled corn, iirc (assuming you're growing corn and don't need your grain tiles to be producing something else). Pickled potatoes also get 2 glow worms apiece, like corn, but the cost is higher since potatoes are better sold as seeds, typically

If you need glow worms in bulk, then you can take advantage of the fact that the number of glow worms scales pretty much directly with the sell value of whatever you feed to the farm. So, grilled fish that you were gonna sell anyway is one good option; or, if you go to fish dish parties/bean burger parties/anything else high-value that you're getting cheaply, those are all good options. I recommend savory foods, as sweet ones give QU fertilizer in much larger quantities, and that tends to jam up the output bin much more quickly.

The #🌱│gardening channel has a link to a spreadsheet with different values of worms and fertilizer from different foods at different price points, but in general, the formula for how many glow worms something produces seems to be roughly "half the sell value of the food, divided by the sell value of the glow worms, then round it, with minimum 1 glow worm"

All of the water that yields saltwater fish (i.e., if you're finding a bunch of piksii floatfish) is exactly the same. The Majiri-of-War is just annoying because it is epic rarity (which generally means 1-2% drop chance to start with) and can only appear during two 7.5-minute windows (morning and evening), during which the eleroo eel can also spawn. So it has lots of competition.

Starred ones can be displayed as decor. Unstarred ones can be given to villagers (each one has one they accept, other than Tau, Hekla, and Einar) as an extra-points gift once per week, or sold. Or stockpiled like a dragon hoard because look at the shinies in my storage hehehehe

Some of them are needed for bundles/quests, and who knows what they'll add in the future

So I'd hang onto at least 2 of each type unstarred, minimum (one for you, one for a friend who didn't plan ahead ✨ )

It's not any certain amount of times, it's just being selective about what they reel in on. It's possible to do on PS5 as well by waiting 'til the fish jumps. If it's not what you want, let it swim away, pull back your line, and cast again.

That way you don't have to go through the whole fishing minigame for a fish that isn't your target

Quite a few fish are still bugged xp level wise even though they fixed majority of them a few days ago with a hotfix. Some give too much, some give too little

Another hotfix is happening in around 7-8h so perhaps they'll fix the remaining fish

I remember a while back putting in a query with S6 re the oyster pebble - their suggestion was to collect 1,000 oysters and open them all at once - yes, I know what you're thinking, it's a bit of a grind but actually not as bad as you'd think and yes, I did get it so that's another achievement to tick off - re the makeshift furniture on home plot, yes, you can. The only difference with home plot fishing is that you can't get the star quality fish.

Yeah it was an easy catch once I remembered to take it seriously. He's a slightly lighter color then a lake shark. If you catch him in a star pool he's obnoxious.

If your trying to get the epic prism plushie from the lake, use the makeshift pole if your other main pole breaks, and just the hook, and go to the river where the robot guy is, and speed through the bites or, you can see what fish tries to bite it, if you don’t like it, wait till the fish swims down, pull up the hook, look into another direction and keep on casting, got 7 of the same massive plushie in 2 and a half hours

So I wanted to try to test out how much money I'd get for making specific starred fish in sashimi. I put all but 2 starred fish to my personal lock box, but the cooking station says I have 13 starred fish?

Does anyone have any tips on catching the Void Ray? I finally started working my bundles & have been trying to catch the Void Ray for two days now ><

I tend to have better luck with RNG for those while fishing in the Underground rather than in Pavel Mines if you haven't tried there yet.

But if you are asking for tips on reeling them in I find the size booster hook from Einar's Guild Shop and Sushi combo help the most. The size booster hook will increase the brackets size and Sushi will help with your rod health.
If you don't have any guild coins saved up yet you can use Fisherman's Brew instead of the size booster hook it will increase the size of the brackets as well, just not quite as large.
And if you are still having issues reeling in you can also add in Fish Stew it will help with reticle speed.

I got another starred ruby from some star bag thing

I did the two flowers for a statue in EW and it gave me some kind of star bag, I opened it and it gave me a starred ruby. I now have 2 in my storage
