ah, that. there's a thing with the garden that only 9 weeds can be on the garden at one time. if you leave the weeds on crops that are not important (harvest boost rice plants in this case) the crop will give it's buff, but once you have 9 weeds there won't be anymore weeds, basically giving you weed prevention on the other crops to have access to other buffs

though, there are bugs doing this, as it can stop the growth of crops from happening (i tried doing this trick and my apple trees stopped growing, for example)

completely depends on your game style, how long you play and what you are growing and how you harvest your crops. what works for one person, doesn't work for other people. example would be i have 2 seed makers and 12 preserve jars, i only harvest the four apple trees and leave the rest of the buff crops in the ground

Idk, one of my apple trees always seemed to dry up but not the 2nd one, and both had water retain from nearby crops (layout was symmetrical). Each time the only difference would be that one had weeds and the other didn't

It seems 50/50 for me whether my weeds dry up my plants or not. I keep 100% water retain and 100% harvest boost and use weed block fert. Sometimes I let the fert lapse and have to water my apples again but not always. Can't seem to find a pattern to it. Seems like there's a chance for weeds and then another chance those weeds make you have to water again.

Ended up with a decent harvest boost, too, but am too lazy to keep up with fertilizer to get it at 100%. Took me a lot of messing around with the garden planner to manage that layout

I think apple trees are just straight up buggy. I had two trees that needed water despite having water retain and harvest boost companion buffs. I also had weedblock fertilizer on both and on surrounding crops yet the trees still dried up (i didnt harvest any apples either)

Aside from corner plants that need fertiliser but it takes alot of space for buffing plants so u get way les tiles for the apples and blueberrys u need and they are a total pain to plant

there is no "best" crop layout. it's entirely dependent on your play style. having a garden full of apple trees to jam them (apple jam sells for 144g) is worthless if you don't have the ability to be online enough to grow the trees (for example - apple trees don't produce their first harvest until after 12 hours, if you only play for 3 hours a day, it will take you around 4 days to get your first harvest).

on the flip side, if you grow a fast growing crop such as bok choy with harvest boost for either seeding or preserves you'll have a massive amount of product just sitting in the crafter while constantly getting overstock of the crop if you harvest and replant when they are ready

it also depends on how you want to do your other crafters (sawmills, smelters, worm bins, etc.) do you want to have them out at all times so you have easy access to them? do you want to have one of each for the different types of materials that can be processed so you don't have to wait for something to finish before starting a new task? these questions will determine how many extra seeders and preserve jars you can place.

leave 9 weeds on the harvest boosting crops and you can still use them for the harvest boosting buff and it makes it so you don't get any more weeds so the trees are unbothered

this has opportunities to bug out if you have too many weeds on the same 3x3 but the harvest boosting crops (corn in this image) are spread out so it should be less likely of an issue
can also bug out if you use fertilizer but you shouldn't need any fertilizer

nope, no weed trick (i found it buggy to use) it's naturally 100% water and weed, and then you just put harvest boost fertilizers on the ones that have the little icon to make it 100% harvest boosted. but like i said, i only harvest the apples

u can put anything in it but some things are more profitable in the seedmaker although seedmaker takes longer on those items and can take less items at once then the jarmaker on most crops

In the past I wanted that, so I establish a system to rotate the ones with same effect.

For example, where I took a carrot, I sowed an onion, and the other way.

so

carrot - onion - bok choy
Potatoes - nappa cabbage - tomatoes (tomatoes take more time so I used to plant the potatoes 2-3 times)
Rice - Wheat

And fixed place for Apple, blueberry and spicy pepper, and a couple of "jokers" where I can set cotton if needed or any 1 square thing 😄

well, reading up a bit, you mentioned that you don't do cakes, i'm assuming that you have a focus food source that works for you (or have access to them with the garden layout), apples are used to make honey lures, but you could probably request or use bug medals from the guild to get those if needed, and outside of the bundle for the temple, and the achievement to get starred apples, they are only used in one furniture item

when someone here says "growth tick(s)" we mean how many hours can you get for your garden. if you play for 3 hours a day you get 3-4 growth ticks since the growth of the crops happens at the 15 of the hour

these are great layouts but u can also go for the tryhard ones but i kinda dont recommend it as it will usually bottleneck ur crafters and its ALOT more effort at that point for little extra gain and u can swap a few cabbage or potatoe out for ur self use tomatoes

i pick crops that have mostly synced harvest times (but then again that only matters if its an afk layout cuz otherwise u still have to tend to or ur just not bothering with picking weeds and accepting the 9 plants not growing on a water retain only layout) (personally experimenting with strategic weedplacement aka letting 9 weeds sit on specific tiles)

@grim cranethere is a recipe for 20x quality upgrade fertilizer, made from a bug, meat and sundrop lily, which might come in handy, if you don't need mass amounts of the fertlizer.

@lilac anchoryou get 1 spicy peppers seed at level 6, 1 blueberry seed at level 8 and 9 (so 2 in total) and 1 apple tree seed at level 10 - it was never that easy before, to get a profitable garden going early on.

if you care for harvest boost, you get 9 blueberries per harvest and you can harvest 4 times. You need 4 blueberries to craft 2 seeds, so after the initial growth phase (9 ingame days) you will be able to craft up to 18 seeds from your first blueberry bush roughly within the next 10 ingame days - so quite easy to multiply.

@tawny kitethere is a way to fit 3x3 inside the court yard, but you have to remove the stairs whilst setting up your garden. I think Nero put his garden inside the courtyard.

you need 1 unit of fertilizer per ingame day and slot, so a blueberry bush requires 4 units each ingame day (actually it is consuming the fertilizer at 6am ingame time). It is just consumed, if the crop doesn't get that boost already by other means. You can put fertilizer down in advance (up to 99 units). Like when you want to use fertilizer on a blueberry bush f.e., you click 9 times with the fertilizer selected and it is putting down 9x4 fertilizer units, which is enough until the bush has finished it's initial growth. After your first harvest you put down 3x4 units (enough to reach the next harvest), and repeat this twice after the following 2 harvests.

You can just use 1 kind of fertilizer per crop. If you put another fertilizer on crop, which has still some other fertilizer active, you get the remaining units back into your inventory.

yeah there are several ways to acquire blueberries and apple seeds - another one is by zeki's coins, if you are lucky - the odds aren't bad actually, 2 out of 6 of my characters got an apple seed this way.

One can get 1 coin every rl day. Just buy something from Zeki's general store and he will send you a coin per mail.

I just spent an unreasonable amount of time researching the most effective plot for AFK farming //im personally using it because im doing homework but want to make money on the side and this is extremely low maintenance after set up. The harvest approximations is based on putting the potatos, tomatoes, and apples into the preserve jar ... I have about 8 preserve jars, 8 glow worms, and 2 seed collectors running with this set up. I would say if I didnt have hardly any glow worms I would do almost all preserves.

I'll log in the first batch at 15 after, then log out once the next in game day starts at 0600.

after that I log in about 10 after the hour to check for harvests/water flow trees.

Ill stay on until the next day, then come back two hours later

You can replace any of the water retain/weeds with whatever you'd like! Once you're at a high enough farming level, you'll also pretty much always get star quality crops, so it will eliminate the need for quality boosting crops :]

by the level you are right now (starting around level 15) you should only be getting star crops from using star seeds. around level 38 you should start getting star crops even from regular seeds with level 50 guaranteeing that you will get nothing but star crops

better to be inefficient then to do nothing at all but learning the theory crafting cant hurt right
ur apples and blueberrys got no harvvest buff(+50% produce is what it gives chancce of appllying amount of growthticks it had/amount of ticks it needs to grow so keep it on it 100% of the time to just get it 50% more plants very worth it) u only need 3 quality up plants next to an apple tree not 12 XD(though it shouldnt hurt besides that it has no borders with any other buff type)

water retain is less usefull if u dont 100% it weed block only that worht it if 100% which u did on it

wow u used lots of fertliser to accomplish the weedblock plants next to ya bokchoi and carrots dont need it though

chain buff plants of same buff togehter so they get theri own buff to

quality up is for lower levels only but if u just need the peppers or cotton thats alright (though their buff becomes not existent at higher levels practically)

and then im not even starting at corner theory but yeay thats simple plants at corner only get 2 buffs from other plants u pretty much always want harvestoost and water retain so its a bit tricky to make full afk without fert aka impossible or ur missing harvest boost on corners so u never change ur layout to have more corners with how u place ur soils unless u know what ur doing

dont htink about layouts as super complicated things just stick to some rules of thumb same buff plants are buddys

harvest boost yum even if it costs 1/3 of the tiles it buffs the other 2 by 50% so those are free plants in gainz

quality up plants for lower levels or self use

(and there are some more things but its to annoying to explain so be specific in what kind of layout u want and il tell ya hte best way to do things for u plus free layout)

nope, you can try to get lucky with the zeki coins (not the hot pot prize wheel, just the regular ones that you get from buying something from the general store) as there's a chance to get an apple seed from that, or you can raise and complete the level 3 friendship quests for two npcs (||nai'o who will give 1 and zeki who will give 2 seeds||)

and move over to the grilled fish tab. depending on the cost of the grilled fish, will determine the output of how many glow worms you'll get. if you do 2 void rays together for example and the resulting grilled fish is star quality you'll get 66 glow worms from just one grilled fish

I came up with my latest (5th) design for what I'm calling the Apples Mine - the idea is to have 4 apple trees grow without maintenance (water, weeds) as well as provide a variety of other crops for gardening (balanced based on my observed needs during cooking). The other crops can either be watered and cared for when I can be online, but otherwise when I'm away they're just supporting characters for the main character: 🍎

Bonus the berries are turned into jam for an additional source of food for focus

i do recommend playing around with the layotu planner to c what stuff does and what to turn into seeds or jars for most money

cotton is self used for making sheets till ur not low level anymore and stop caring for qualityu up buff ur gonna use all of it anyways (actually even more but u can plant alittle bit extra later)

for cookign keep a small stash of each crop to make stuff out of

keep in mind plant stuff in buddys of same buff types so together they buff themselves to

Starred seeds have a higher chance of starred crops, which sell for higher in all its forms (About 1.5x the base value).
However, star chance scales with gardening skill level. As you level up, even normal seeds become much more likely to produce star crops, becoming just about certain at level 38

U can buy from zeki but i think thats more expensive then using star seed at its sell price and sometimes u get an extra unstarred seed from seedmaker/ harvesting

So while you can use unstarred, practically you won't be. Except for the occasional regular seeds that pops up.

after testing i discovered that strategic weedblocking stops u from having offline growth ticks on ur crops
and perhaps also of plot growthticks

Yeah some of them act weird, I had the issue as well. Maybe it's something to report to the devs, cuz it's pretty annoying compared to watering crops

its were u let 9 weeds sit on spots u dont care about but yeay max weeds is 9 but apparently its glitches ur crops growing
